I had almost all of them as a kid. These and 3/4 joes were honestly my favorite lines of all time until this year when I discovered action force. Not throwing starshine vala, I really think these are the best figures ever made in a 20-40 dollar price point.

You know, I never truly appreciated this line before watching this video. A lot of that is my age. I was a child of the 70s and grew up with Megos. I didn’t become an adult collector until the late 90s, so 80s lines like Super Powers, Masters of the Universe, and GI Joe never registered with me. This video really opened my eyes. I know this is just you being you and talking about a line you love, but your presentation is fantastic.

In 1985 on a random trip with my mom to Kmart I was allowed to grab 1 figure. I was 5 and I can remember the massive Superpowers display with many of the vehicles. It was a hard choice but I ended up picking Batman. Despite multiple moves and loseing most everything from my childhood at 44 I still have that little Batman.

I love the Super Powers line because it brought Kirby's Fourth World characters into the mainstream for the first time, plus going deep into obscure characters. I also love that DC asked Kirby to redesign some of his New Gods for the line so that he could receive royalties from the toy sales. Very cool decision by then DC heads Paul Levitz and Jeanette Kahn.

Great video! Kenner Super Powers is my all time favorite line. Must correct you on Cyborg. Cyborg was never released in Canada or UK. He is more rare because he was delayed in production and did not make it in to the initial cases of series 3. Was later released by South American companies Estrela and Playful/Pacipa.

I was born in 1976. I collected that line when I was a kid. None of those characters were third tier or even B-list to me at the time. Nearly all the characters were featured on the Challenge of the Super-Friends animated series. I vividly remember all my classmates and friends wanted Firestorm and Cyborg after they appeared on the cartoon. So many of us were speculating Black Vulcan and Apache Chief were going to make the line.

Seeing these gives me flashbacks of Saturday morning cartoons. The best time of the week when I was a kid. I loved the cartoon but mainly collected Star Wars figures and then G.I. Joe. I really like that carded Commando figure on the top shelf. Hopefully that’s a video for another day. I still have my childhood Commando. That was a great figure for the time. I have most of them. In the UK, they only released the 1st series in toy stores. It took me ages to complete the set. Then a few years later, I discovered through a toy magazine, Kenner released more figures such as Firestorm and Green Arrow. I had to go through a UK toy dealer to get them, and they were expensive, even back in the late eighties. Managed to get Plastic Man for £85. Missed out on a few of the villains and obscure heroes due to availability and price. Cyborg was £150, even back in 1990! One of the best action figure lines ever produced. I still have them. Great video 👍🙂

I was 11 when Super Powers came out and I was hooked. Such a great assortment of characters from DC. I still have my original figures(I don’t have them all from the line)and the Batmobile. With McFarlane reintroducing the line it’s great to see it return. He’s doing some deep Dives and variants. But this original Super Powers line just came out at the right time.

I was born in ‘65, and I was a little ahead of the curve with the whole ‘adult toy collector’ thing. I was 19 when these came out, and I got most of them, except for Cyborg and a couple of others because I never saw them and line was dying. I’m old enough that I had a bunch of the MEGO figures as my superhero toys as a kid, and I fell in love with the sculpts and materials of this line. I wasn’t even a DC fan, I was a Marvel fanboy at the time collecting all the major comics (X Men, Avengers, 3 different Spider Man comics, etc.), but these looked so good and I had the nostalgia of Batman and Superman from a young age. I had even watched the Shazam/Isis live action show in the 70’s on Saturday mornings, so I knew who Shazam was and he’s probably my favorite Super Powers figure.

For some reason firestarter, wonder woman, penguin, flash and green lantern were always stocked. I did end up getting Superman, Darkseid, Batman for 55$. I'm pretty sure that Cyclotron and Golden Pharoah were just made up for the toy line. Also, I'm a bit older than you, and I'm not sure I'd call Hawkman a "B list" hero. He was a much bigger deal back then. He had his own comic series that ran for a long time, and he and Hawkgirl were JLA mainstays. They were even frequently featured on the old Superfriends show that inspired this toy line. I've got a bunch of these figures, plus the Batmobile. I've added the new Invisible Jet and Whirlybat from the new Super Powers line, too. I'm not planning on getting them all, just the ones I really like. Or if I find a good deal!

As a kid I got Robin, Flash, Hawkman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Brainiac, Joker, Lex Luthor, Dr. Fate, Martian Manhunter, Firestorm off the shelf between 84-86, mostly from K Mart . . . BUT had so much fun hunting the figures down between 1988 - 1990 at the very back leftover aisles of Salvation Army, collector stores, Kay Bee Toys & Thrifty & found Darksied, Mantis, Kalibak, Green Arrow & Penguin. The rest I got from comic shops, and small Comic Conventions (Shrine Audiorium); and found Mr. Miracle through a local comic book shop insider as "the guy" in 1992 . . this was pre-internet & he sold it to me for $100 in 1992, and he had to vet me at a McDonald's in Burbank to make sure he was selling to a legit collector - like a geek drug deal going down, after I passed his muster by listening to him blabber of how awesome a collector & insider he was, I paid him the $100 cash for a MOC Mr Miracle which I immediately opened in front of his face with my quarter pounder fingers! He just about fainted when I did that . . . TOYS ARE MEANT TO BE PLAYED WITH!

Capt, that's an awesome collection! One day I hope to have a glass case for my figures. I have to pause the video, and zoom in and out just to absorb it all. Super Powers was not on my radar as a 70's kid. Cannonball Run, Smokey & the Bandit, BJ & the Bear, Convoy, Airwolf, Dukes of Hazzard, Knight Rider, A team, Transformers etc.. made me a fan of vehicle toys! As an adult I got heavy into DC classics/club infinite Earths. I have 99% of them. The homages paid to SUPER POWERS were awesome. often it's a scale issue therefore, I often cherry pick MacVerse. Picking up characters that Mattel didn't make. Highly appreciate you sharing your SP + collection with us, Capt! ✌🏼

The Super Powers figures are some of my favorite ever. I wanted everything they had, but I only got a handful. I did get the Batmobile and the Hall of Justice, and I still have both. There were at least three Super Powers comic book mini-series. One of those mini-series had a whole team of enemies with a fist logo on their chest. The character assortment in the Kenner Super Powers in 1984 puts McFarlane and Hasbro to shame to this day! They nearly made a complete roster from an animated series in just two years! They even managed to have exclusives that weren't simple recolors of popular characters! I even recall being able to buy Kenner figures at Family Dollar or West Bros. Dollar stores and not retail exclusives for Walmart or Toys-R-Us. Kenner developed an entire world of play in two years with a cartoon and a few commercials. Hasbro has Disney and the entire MCU and still takes 5 years to complete a single team of 6 characters. Hell, McFarlane can't put together 5 Teen Titans! Kenner and Toy Biz used a full roster far better than todays manufacturers.

Great video!! The Riddler was made in Argentina, by the company that had the official molds. Here it's also an expensive and rare figure, and you have to be careful because some are fakes. Also, sometimes the ? simbols are faded because of the use, and you can find some that are a little bit cheaper for that reason.

Bobby, I still had to laugh: I share your view that “figures need to breathe” hence why I shake my head with going to a blister card for series 4 - I want to keep the packaging, but they need to breathe…. And then safely go back into their chamber to display and store. If you are trying to cut costs by going to blister, I for one will pay the additional $3 the box packaging allows.

This line should have lasted a couple more years. Kenner's big mistake was focusing too much on Kirby's New Gods characters (Darkseid, Orion..etc) and their own made up characters (Cyclotron, Golden Pharoah) instead of capitalizing on more known (and necessary) characters...Bizarro, Supergirl, Sinestro, Riddler, Scarecrow, Catwoman and of course the Teen Titans which were insanely popular at the time.

I always thought that was weird, even at the time. DC has never had the strongest villains, but come on. Agreed... It was darn near perfect and SUCH a nostalgic throwback for me. I bought several of them, but the bulk of my collection came from the Shell Oil promotion. I kept finding coupons to get one for free (or cheap) with a fill-up, so I hounded my parents to go there. I've been tempted to regain some of that nostalgia by getting the equivalent figures in the DC Multiverse line, but that's too much money and too much space and I've already missed some of the ideal figures for it. The McFarlane Super Powers is out because the sculpts on Superman and Batman are so bad compared to the originals, and I have issues with spending real money on deliberately retro, poorly-articulated figures like those and ReAction. So I'll have to make do looking at collections like yours!

What’s your opinion on the McFarlane run of the super powers line? I think they’re a cool homage to the vintage figures, fun to collect and affordable. I had fun building out the justice league

That black Batman from Brazil is gorgeous. How hard it is to find one?

Bobby, just a little friendly toy/comic book help… Tyr is pronounced like “tear”. Also, you never heard of Golden Pharaoh and Cyclotron is because they were created specifically for the line. Samurai only ever appeared in the Super Friends cartoon before the line. And finally, the second series figures are mostly from Jack Kirby’s New Gods comics, but, all of them, aside from Darkseid himself and DeSaad, got complete redesigns from the comics to make them (of course) more “toyetic”.

Johnny Knoxville would have made the perfect Plastic Man in his prime. Go watch anytime he appeared in cartoon and tell me that doesn’t look, sound, and act like a young Johnny Knoxville

Clark Kent wasn’t the first mailaway. Steppenwolfe was a mailaway. I was 12 and that’s how I got him. I had almost everyone in the left case (didnt have WW or Robin) but only two in the right (Samurai and Firestorm). I remember seeing a cardboard box in an outlet store full of Cyborgs in plastic bags. They had dozens of them for $3-4 each. This was in the southern US. Also had the Hall and Batmobile, Supermobile and the Lex-Soar 7.

I found a black suit batman thrifting, i've found a Dr Fate thrifting, Kicking myself for Re-Selling Dr Fate but I made some good $ . I remember having Grey Batman Robin, Superman Darkseid, lex luthor the fire storm, dr fate. Those were some cool figures. I also had the Full Robin Hood line Between my cousins and myself, that was a cool line, at the time I had no idea about the reuse, even though the sheriff seemed familiar.

I still have my Superman with his cape. Martian Manhunter is missing his cape. Those are my last two left. And I still have a 89 Batman with the retractable belt
Marvel got mad at me for this!
