Great eye and update Jon! I bet it comes with the Taco powertrain. Makes sense the GX has a different more premium offering. It should still be plenty of power from what we are used to. Can’t wait to see the t4r. I love how after years of nothing we are getting flooded with great new Toyota SUVS.

Excited for August 1st! Loving all these dope options from Toyota. I’m expecting getting a new vehicle by 2025ish so at that point I’m hoping my options will be new Gen Taco, 4R, or LC. can’t wait to see!

I noticed that Drive Australia posted some dealer or build code info that indicated it would likely have the powertrain from the Taco rather than the GX. While I know this would be disappointing to some, I would point out that the power numbers on the Taco powertrain are nothing to scoff at and it makes sense in the hierarchy of Toyota/Lexus to have some separation between the Land Cruiser and GX 550. Either way, can't freaking wait to see this thing whole!

I think you are 100% right. This will have the engines from the Taco, and will likely use Toyota naming conventions (TRD, Trailhunter, etc). It'll be very interesting to see if they offer any more hardware as well.. perhaps a front locker? Bigger tires? Hard to say... but I could see it as a possibility.

@@dirtandhappiness2023putting a V6 in this Land Cruiser regardless if it’s turbo or not would make the new GX irrelevant. It’s definitely going to have the Tacoma engine. Maybe because it’s lighter than the GX somehow? Materials? Equipment? Technology?

This is just typical asshole Toyota product segmentation to force you to spend more on a useless luxury badge. Imagine paying 60k+ for a 4-cylinder! It's insane, the power doesn't matter when you have that rattly-ass inline-4 under the hood. The only product where Toyota doesn't do that is the Land Cruiser 300 but that's super expansive.

Great job on the video Jon! Thanks for making it. I definitely think that they're going the performance hybrid route for this Land Cruiser. My dream is that there will be multiple Land Cruisers announced. Maybe a heritage version of every series that was either never available or available in such limited quantities that no one who has ever seen them outside of Utah. Hybrid or fully electric Troopy anyone? Maybe put a V8 in a newly designed Mega-Cruiser body for those that are willing to pay the premium in both vehicle price and fuel consumption to have something a bit special from the lineup? And for sure they need to have something with a flat-bed with canopies a-la the ol' 79 series.

Cars that are built in Japan come with good quality inside out. The 4runner quality is much better if we compare it with American-built. I am afraid adding a Land Cruiser badge to the next gen 4runner may increase the price of it .

Anything using the LC name should be built to a standard, not a price. This is a dilution of the LC name in the US. That being said, they’ll sell a ton.

The only good thing about getting the 2.4 will be that hopefully a model will come with the 6 speed manual. If not, then I'll certainly not consider the LC over the GX.

It will not happen most likely. The 4Runner might get a 6-speed like the Tacoma as the 4Runner will be cheaper than the new Prado, which is still going to be positioned as a luxury vehicle.

@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 Could be. Perhaps this LC actually replaces the current slot filled by the 4Runner, and the new 4Runner moves down a bit (certainly will in size), to slot below the LC. I don't think Toyota will position the LC equal in price to the GX. It'll likely sit in the 10-15K gap that currently exists between the low end 4Runner and low end GX. We'll see. This may even mean the 4Runner is done...

In my opinion the Land Cruiser will replace sequoia demand for large SUV. If Toyota was aggressive they would create a long wheel base sequoia to enter the extra large market to compete against the Chevy suburban and ford expedition MAX. That’s only me wishing a large cargo space sequoia

yeah since the grand highlander is doing the regular family hauler route, and if the land cruiser does well, the sequoia can go back to independent rear suspension and open up a roomy cargo area and comfortable third row for the next gen

@@huanronghu4432 Yes that's the difference between body-on-frame and unibody and Toyota targets people who buy these SUVs instead of a minivan and not because they tow something really heavy and that's the vast majority of those buyers. Toyota just doesn't want to spend money on those segments because they don't sell that well, which only makes them sell even worse, it's dumb. It's also happened with Lexus when they killed the GS instead of giving it a new generation which wouldn't have been hard, although now it seems Toyota will continue selling the ancient IS until it's all full electric. It sucks because its age really shows, it's just so much worse compared to 3 series. The lead engineer of the Tundra said that he wanted to make a competitive truck with leaf springs and lots of room but they were forced to use the GA-F platform without modifications because Toyota didn't want to spend money on development. Now they have a last in class truck. It was even worse with the Sequoia which would've almost been canceled according to the lead engineer and it only happened because they made as little changes as possible from the Tundra and saved money, which is why it has a solid axle and doesn't have the roll down window which is expensive. Toyota should've invested more into the Sequoia, gave it independent rear suspension like the previous gen, made it slightly longer in the normal version and given it an extended wheelbase option and make the hybrid optional because it doesn't really improve fuel economy and just ruins cargo practicality. The GX is so good because it doesn't have a hybrid battery that wastes cargo space.

They did minimal effort to refresh the sequoia which in my opinion does not meet the objective of buying a body on frame SUV which can tow well and carry people and their gear. It’s a pretty useless backseat and trunk for a family which needs the seating and also the cargo for carrying large coolers, tents, hockey gear etc.

This is the powertrain I expected. Toyota likes to differentiate with power trains, so once I saw the GX was getting the TT6 I was 90% sure the new Land Cruiser would be getting the hybrid max 4... bummer.
