Did Ubisoft just assassinate it’s own game already?

I think you're right about the pricing issues, BUT, can we take a second to consider that Assassin's Creed is (supposedly) a stealth assassination game? How does that work when you're the only giant black famous guy in all of Japan at the time? I'm sorry but it seems like I've taken crazy pills, but that makes no sense as a choice because of that.

You get to play as a samurai and a ninja, so the more stealthy parts, I think, will be as the ninja. It will be interesting to see how they handle the combat and stealth.

@@games_revealed it's their IP and I haven't played an Assassin's Creed since Revelations so I'm clearly not the target audience, I hope those that get it enjoy it. I'll be playing Yakuza Ishin and Rise of the Ronin instead.

The controversy is not about racist gamers, historical inaccuracy, retainers or samurais, blacks or asians. If this same teaser was released 10 years ago pretty much no one would have minded because AAA studios still had a decent reputation amongst their customers. But in the past 10 years companies such as Ubisoft have poured hundreds of millions of dollars into instilling in the public concise that white kids dressing up as native americans for Halloween is wrong. That a white person playing an asian musical instrument(despite being one of the few remaining people alive playing that instrument) for the "Ghost of Tsushima" soundtrack is wrong. This whole controversy is about Ubisoft finally experiencing the culture they've been investing money in for ages and I couldn't be happier for them. Nice stock price drop, Ubisoft. You've earned it.

I don't really care if people have fun with history, as long as people understand the narrative of this game is NOT trying to be historically accurate. It's inspired by historical characters, but the story is more about our modern aspirations for what we would like history to be, rather than what we know history as -- and of course what we know is pretty muddy.

Yasuke wasn't a samurai, he was a retainer. He was a glorified slave. Lol The fact again people are feeling especially Asian men are feeling pushed to the side when every single assassins creed has represented the ethnicity of where the game is and when taking place. Every single one but in Japan during the time of the samurai they pick yasuke? Come on man they did it for woke causes and the director stated as such. So yes fans of the franchise have right to be mad. We have wanted to be a Japanese samurai or ninja. Think Japanese and Asians have right to have an uproar.

Woke is a gotcha term. It doesn’t really mean anything expect to freak out over something new. Yasuke has an open story that they can then build off of. There is a Japanese ninja. It looks like a fun fictional game. And there are plenty of games where you can play as “Japanese” samurai if you want “purity”. I don’t think it’s wrong to want your race to be represented, in fact, I’m a big advocate for it, but let there be some freedom for authors to tell stories.

@@games_revealed actually id say wokness has many components and forced diversity is one of them. Assassins creed has kept to the "purity term" you used in every single game dude lol but since sweet baby inc was involved and ubisoft made a commitment to the black community a few years ago. Its not like im the only one complaining. Ive already seen countless videos and posts of asain and black community upset because its clearly pandering. Thats like saying the native american community wouldnt have had a reason to be mad if we were to hear oh revolutionary days and could be a native american assassin then the character was changed to another race for any reason woke or not.

There are Asians in most all the world in all times of History, that had not much facts about them yet I don't see one game that does this woke trash... I'm waiting... The typical distinction between retainer and knight in European historiography is that a knight is an explicitly landed class while a retainer is someone who serves within a king/lord's household. The problem with applying this distinction is that in Japanese history Samurai wasn't necessarily defined by land ownership. This was true in the Kamakura period, but in the Sengoku period where the events of Nobunaga's life take place, samurai and bushi became interchangeable terms. So, even though someone like Yasuke wouldn't have qualified as a samurai under land ownership in a prior era, he and many of his peers - professional warriors serving under a lord - were called samurai by their contemporaries. And when Nobunaga died, leaving him without a lord, he would have become a ronin.

Maybe Ubisoft's greedy master plan, is to announce a $20 extra pre-order DLC giving players a Japanese Samurai to play as, instead of Yasuke? Sure I kid, but with Ubisoft, EA, and other "AAAA" publishers, I wouldn't be surprised. And don't forget, there's always Samurai Jack Battle Through Time, to play!

So that's the whole issue? People don't like black people. Everytime there's a black person in a game people lose their minds. I love black people. I don't care for Assassins Creed much but I will buy this to counter-protest if that's the"Issue".

So let’s have Ubisoft finally place a game in Africa but the main character is white? How do you think that will go over? Japan has a rich history to pull from but they do this. The next AC game should be in an African region if they want to truthfully show representation that isn’t disrespectful.

@@ericwright3141 That’s literally the plot of Far Cry 2 lol. There is actually a list on Wikipedia of all games that take place in Africa. Less than 5 of them actually feature a black main character.
