Join us for days 3 & 4 of our passage across the Great Australian Bight where Mirrool hits a new record for her daily mileage. We also have a minor mishap, deal with an overwhelmed auto helm, hand steer downwind in 30+ knots in the middle of the night, get busy in a rock and roll galley and, to top it all off, arrive at a remote island in uncharted waters.

Your home yacht club should give you guys a cruising award for that passage and I hope somebody nominates you. Specially enjoyed the downwind footage in 30 knots. The following seas always look much smaller on a video than they actually are. Troy hand steering and trying not to look behind him - classic.

Thankyou! This channel has to be well within the top 10 KZbin Sailing channels - great sail craft, awesome technical skill and two personable aussies sailing the Sthn Ocean in 30 waves on their 30' Clansmen (Whaaaat?). Obviously West Australians who have no fear of the wind and call the Fremantle Doctor a sea breeze (lol!).

Simply Beautiful Pascale and Troy. Brings back so many memories for me of Bass Strait and the Southern Ocean. Now just lake sailing in Texas but in 5 - 10 we hope to back on the Ocean. Simply nothing better (other than the rolling) than taking the tiller with some decent wind and swell. Can't help but go for the surf. Didn't notice you wiggle the tiller at all. An old racing technique is to give the tiller a few hard wiggles to detach flow from the rudder and reduce drag, just as the stern picks up, enough to get that bit extra of speed to promote planing. All the best. My favourite sailing couple!

Hi, I watch a lot of sailing channels and the way you sail and how you have the boat set up is the best i've seen, I have my preventer in Two parts, from the end of the boom I have a line about 2m long with a bowline in it, I attach it to the boom near to the vang when i'm not using it, this means that I can connect it or disconnect it easily when the boom is fully out by standing just aft of the shrouds, i can also switch ends after I have gybed if i want to use the lazy genoa winch for the preventer which means I have good access to it and have plenty of control if things go wrong and I need to release it slowly and in a controlled way. the other part goes through a block on the bow which of course is the only way to rig a preventer in open ocean. I really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.

The waves were colossal (as I guessed you were in for when you proudly announced you would cross the Bite), the boat still has not grown much even with all the love and care over the past months, and the meals looked better than ever. I can only assume you made it, hope that when you get to WA conditions are a bit iffy and the harbor pilot gives you the go around. One more circumvent of Oz now you know where to fish.
