Eren lists Armin's achievements to make his case but there is no one who does that for Erwin. Once Erwin took over the scouts, the death rates fell. He is considered as the best commander of the Survey Corps ever. It was because of Erwin's plan that Eren was even allowed to live, otherwise in the courtroom trial the Military police would have killed him. It was Erwin who suspected there was a spy in the walls. He lured out the spy which was the Female Titan. He proved his point and captured the Titan. Once they were back it was again Erwin's plan on how to corner Annie in the Capital, going against the military police and the government. It was only because of Erwin that Armored Titan failed to take Eren with him in the 2nd season. He brought a horde of Titans to take down the Armored. At that point there were no thunder spears, it was all his intelligence. He was the one who overthrew the corrupt government. He was the brains behind taking out Rod's Titan, returning Historia to Queen. It was he who planned the operation to retake Maria. Erwin was inspiring, strong, brave, experienced and also very intelligent. He could take tough decisions in the heat of the battle immediately. We could see how Armin choked in the moment initially to defeat the Colossal but Erwin didn't. He figured a way to take out the Beast Titan even in the hopeless situation. I agree with the decision to choose Armin. But i think Erwin's case also needs to be made. Armin gave the connecting pieces. The elaborate plans were all Erwin's.

@드래곤원-h4j Жыл бұрын
I find it interesting that the final factor that made Levi choose Armin was the difference in their dreams. Kenny's words of everyone having to be drunk on something is true, and it's been proven to be true for every character we've seen so far. Mikasa's drunk on being with Eren and protecting him, Eren's drunk on the idea of freedom, Levi chose to follow Erwin to find out what Erwin was seeing, most of the scouts were drunk on the idea of becoming a hero and saving humanity from the titans. Erwin was drunk on finding out what was in the basement. The thing that could finally answer the question that he and his father had. But he didn't know what he would do after he got that answer. The sole reason he was so focused as the leader of the scouts was because he wanted to know the truth. Give him the truth, and no one knew if he would continue to be as focused as before. Armin on the other hand was drunk on seeing the outside world. The vast wonders that he could only read in his books. His "drink" would last longer than Erwin, if not, forever. Levi realized this and in the end chose Armin since, while he was still inexperienced, it was a guarantee that he would be motivated to become better, to see the outside world, compared to Erwin who's motivation wasn't guaranteed. + Erwin just needed to rest. Bringing him back would've only continued to bring him more hell.
@OrdinaryCritic Жыл бұрын
Can’t wait for Armin to be a better character because of his motivation! 😍

I think another important point is that Erwin literally said that he has NO idea what he'll do after he reaches the basement and learns whatever it is they're going to learn in there. For all we know he could have walked into the basement and just went "Welp, my work is done here" and then just GMod ragdolled right then and there and become catatonic. Erwin would have been a dangerous game. Sure, he MIGHT have continued on, but he also MIGHT NOT have. Armin would AT LEAST keep going until they see the sea. And further than that, because Armin doesn't want to specifically see the sea, he wants to see the world. That's a bit of a larger dream to be drunk on than Erwin's simple "knowledge of truth" question.

That's a triple guessing thing, she's tripping her own thoughts often. I theorized just fine while watching, and pretty much all of it came true just from identifying the lore drops and exposition when they happen as opposed to "meta gaming" the scenes (like her convincing herself Grisha is alive for seeing or not seeing limbs instead of following the exposition after we already know you need to eat a titan shifter to turn back).
@saceurai6629 Жыл бұрын
Since you're getting confused by too many thoughts going in too many different directions, I'll compile a small list of *very* important infos that is known to you. So no spoilers. I don't know which episode you're on on Patreon, so I'll just put this episode as the line. - A titan power can only be transferred by consuming another person with titan power (specifically their spinal fluid). A titan will never turn into a human by eating a regular human. Reiner transferred his consciousness to his "body" before the stab, but a body is just a flesh casing for your spine - which is the only cable that's making your brain able to control the "body". So no surviving certain deaths by sending consciousness to the arm and regrow from there. - Grisha had a titan, and Eren ate him to get the Titan power. Grisha is dead. This is not "Oh, Eren's character had so much potential" kind of troll back when Eren "died." So remove Grisha being alive factor completely out of your head when theorizing. - Grisha was outside the wall, with no memories. - Titan injection causes memory loss. There are more stuff, but the show's gonna explain it to you itself. Also, an interesting tidbit. In Japanese language, the whole Zeke's line about "You don't look like your father" or "We're both victim of your father" line is neutral on the possessives. It could mean, just as you said "our father" or not. It's just up to the viewer's imagination, so go wild with your theory. Nobody's gonna blame you, cuz literally everyone who knew Japanese was debating over it back when it released. (Seeing her be this adamant on a side, I'm interested to see how she's gonna react to the further episodes :>)

I feel folks tend to miss out on a few things. There is no right or wrong in this. Take Annie for example. Armin figured it out but it was also Erwin who devised the plan with the formation and maps which is why Annie, Reiner and Bertholdt exposed themselves. It was Erwin who had the grand plan to expel the false royals ad well. Isayama clearly intended Armin and Erwin as equals but in different way. Its potential vs experience, both are great planners where Erwin is a big gambler to Armin being a thinker. Even their situations is the same, they are willing to sacrifice themselves for the greater good. Armin has Eren as Erwin has Levi. There is no right answer for who is better for humanity. Both have infinite value. The only deciding factor is that Erwin is at the point where he earned to rest, he was suffering in a way only a veteran commander can know whereas Armin has seen some shit but still has that purity that Erwin lost after sacrifing so many people.

He might still devote his heart, but he also might end up half asking it more since he'd no longer be single mindedly devoted to that goal.

But i think it was Floch's comments on how Erwin should continue living in this hell as a devil that derailed his objectivity. That and Erwin himself smacking his hand away and the words Erwin mumbled. For most of his life, Erwin has been burdened and chained with the search for the truth. He became the devil and sacrificed so many people and so much of himself for this goal. Levi, i think in the end, wanted to free Erwin from that burden and the cruelty of this world. A small comment to be made on Zeke's words - you kept saying "OUR father" in correction of his "your father", but that's a translation discrepancy. In the original Japanese, there is no possession marker, so he just says "You look nothing like father", since possession in this case would be figured out from context. Back when this episode was released we had no such context, so the translators didn't want to 100% commit to Zeke saying he's Eren's half brother in case it was disproved down the line.
@aliciaxlife Жыл бұрын

@@aliciaxlife Oh! Okay, sorry, that makes more sense.
@hundvd_7 Жыл бұрын
It's not just because it wasn't confirmed. Professional subtitles should stay as factual as possible. And the fact is, Japanese works in a way that in that specific context, literally anyone would have interpreted it as "your" father. Of course, it is more neutral than that, as he's saying "that" Father. And a Japanese person paying attention like Alicia here, would definitely figure it out. (Which is why I don't think it's a spoiler.) If the writer's intention was for the line to read "your" for 90% of readers and "our" to about 10%, he succeeded in Japanese. So, the translator has to replicate that. The issue is that phrasing it as "that father" would immediately be suspicious to just about anyone that speaks English. Percentage-wise, it'd be more like a 50/50 split. That's not foreshadowing, it'd be more like a Chekov's gun it's so obnoxious. So they had to go with the option that isn't _that_ obvious: "your" father. It doesn't confirm or deny anything, but the surrounding pretext is still there, so a 95/5 split is still possible. Just like our Alicia here. And phrasing it as "our" father would of course be even more obvious, so it's out of the picture already. Especially considering that SPOILERS {{ Alicia's guess about Zeke's daddy issues is spot on. He does _not_ consider Grisha his father. }}

Personally I think Armin was the better choice. Erwin was a good leader in his time. He made small progress by thinking different from his predecessors. Yet his plans did involve MANY sacrifices. Truth be told when I watched AoT the first time I always thought if Erwin will lead people to victory, he will turn around to celeberate with everyone who survived so far and released beside him there just 2-3 person left inside the walls, the rest died in his plans toward victory. Like I said he was better than his predecessors because he thought different and came up with new ideas. Armin was now different from him by thinking different, smarter, less risky yet sucessful. Which kinda would make Armin destinted to be the one who have one day outrank Erwin, like Erwin outrank the one who came before him. What Armin leaks was experience but that is something you get over time, the way your brain works or how you view thinks, not. Armin was blessed with high IQ it would have been a waste to abandoned that. But that just my opinion.

I've always taken the flashback to Kenny that Levi has, just as he is about to save Erwin, as him realizing Erwin's dream was both destroying him, and also the only thing keeping him going, which he directly admits to Levi. Where as Armin's dream is based on a very hopeful (naive, even) idea of things being able to be better. It's kind of impossible to see into a different narrative path, but I always thought Erwin would have been dangerously close to suicidal had he been saved. You hear stories about this all the time, where someone's will keeps them alive just long enough to reach their destination, and then they drop. But on the other hand, it's not like Armin hasn't had issues with his self-worth, so I DONT KNOW. Regardless, from an in-universe perspective, I can see the hard choice, and ultimately understand Levi's choice to let his friend rest. But from a narrative, viewer-perspective, there was no way Erwin was making it out of there alive. Both Erwin and Armin may have felt like their stories were ending, but I think the story's themes were all pointing to Erwin dying.

Under their previous commander shadis, they barely made any advancement outside the walls, same with other previous commanders. But in about 5 years( Eren was about 9 years old when the show started and Erwin wasn't commander then, he should be 14 or 15 now) Erwin has brought them all to the point that they have the answers to their world within walking distance. Despite the numerous amount of sacrifices, Erwin brought them to a point where humanity in the walls have a better chance of survival. He is a ruthless winner, even at the cost of his personal well being. It's not pretty, but most of Erwins plans helped advance the scouts to this point. And considering what happens in season 4, I feel Erwin might have handled the situation better than Hange and armin did. Of course armin has his good results. Whenever the situation arises, he steps up, brilliantly. Erwin had even praised armin's brain. But as we'll find out in season 4, armin's values don't help him that much. And if you want to make a case for all the soldiers that died, no one forced them to join the scouts. There's no conscription or anything. It's common knowledge that for the scouts, every trip outside the walls has a high mortality rate, so their minds either got clouded by their hero complex, believing that they could be part of the group to bring change to humanity within the walls, or they just got tired of life and decided to give their hearts to the cause. But judging from what was shown in ep 16, it's more likely that their brains were corrupted with delusions of grandeur. But hey, this is just my opinion, feel free to dislike or ignore if you want. I know she was probably joking but it left a bad taste in my mouth when she was calling for the death of my number 1 and 2 to be able to revive my number 5. It felt uncomfortable to watch so I just needed a place to vent

My favorite meme from AoT is calling Reiner the Plot-Armor Titan, its just so good. When you are confident about your theories you should absolutely stick to them confidently! The reason commenters will sometimes say shit like that is because (from my experience) reactors will sometimes come up with a crackpot theory and believe it so much that they end up mixing it up with what the show has officially confirmed for them, and they will lose track of what is confirmed in the story and what is just their own theories. You seem to be pretty good about keeping track of the narrative while maintaining your theories, so I dont think thats an issue you are going to run into. Also yes the Intro is spoiler free as of this episode, so you are good to go from now on!

Despite everything he did, I did feel bad for Berthold when he died, he woke up in Trost to find a titan trying to eat him, and he looks over and see's all of the people he grew close to in the scout recruits, and I think that, like Reiner, he had some kind of mental lapse and thought he was back there on the recruits first mission, before all of the shit happened between them, and he died in terror begging for his friends to save him. I just think that's a miserable way to die for anyone, and once you learn more later then it becomes harder to think of them as harshly as you did at the time of their death.
@peppercat1887 Жыл бұрын
I also feel inclined to say: I have no issue with Floch. He represent every soldier who has their own grand dreams upon joining the military and his first mission is this hell of Shiganshina and a suicide charge. Dude lost his own comrades and it only comes natural he begins to wonder the reason he alone survived. He is seeking a purpose to being the one who survived and sees it within Erwin. This is also where Erwins speech comes in. Death is meaningless but its up to us to give meaning to the deaths of others. He is doing exactly that. He tries to give a meaning to this suicide charge by being the one alive.

In the last episode of Attack on Titan we finally make it to the basement. There we find a book written by the daddy and it says: "True strength was the friends we made along the way!". Then Eren cries emotionally and turns into a titan. He then carries Mikasa to the ocean with Armins ashes. They look into the sky and they see the souls of their lost comrades (Bad ass Jojo style). Then mikasa turns into a titan an says to Eren: "I love you" and then they kiss as titans. Fade to black. Fin.

29:10 here's them stats Armin lost the escort teams that went with Eren in trost except for one or two people and between that and the whole attack they lost 200 soldiers (+ 800 injured all approx of course) and since then he didn't amount a casualty until that one guy who found Rainer and then himself… with these casualties they managed to fend off the Titans for the first time ever and the first time they managed to retake territory long since claimed by the Titans and his actions lead to the defeat of 2 of most important titans and the death of one Erwin on the other hand: lost 36 people during the forest arc, got -36 soldiers out of that, most of them considered specialists in titan fighting, 5 of them considered being within the creme de la creme, at least 100 people at stohes, most of them civilians which i don't think I have to explain why that's worse, they got an Annie rock (better than having her running around) and by pure luck they discovered the Titans in the walls and then here he lost about 100 soldiers to also get "the first time they managed to retake territory long since claimed by the Titans" thing that i said about armin's 1 casualty plan except they only defeated 1 important titan who then escaped and was the only reason armin's plans and actions didn't kill the 2 titans, his operation ended with just 2 of the people with 5+ years of experience alive and one of them has no Depth perception anymore But there is some overlap, Erwin did do a coup without direct and immediate bloodshed and (I hate to bring cut content and I don't think it should be taken into account) but Armin did suggest they use civilians for a plan when they were wanted (Oh, There are also the people who died trying to get Eren back and the bottom row of cannons at orvud district) So that's 211 (assuming we blame every confirmed death in trost on Armin for some reason) to 266 give or take (+ however many small cannons they had at orvud times 3 because that's how many people takes to operate one)

@Rhodair Жыл бұрын
There's no objective choice when it comes to opinions. If you're already making assumptions like "we need the best war commander" then sure, Erwin makes sense. However, Levi's decision was about who would "save humanity". That's not something that an objectively best answer exists for because "How should humanity be?" "What does humanity saved look like?" These are all entirely based on opinions. If you would've chosen Erwin, I get you, but don't go acting like your opinions are facts.

I dont saw any of the haters so i have no ideia what they are talking about, its probably not good stuff. But personally, sometimes i get annoyed when she is talking over stuff and then gets confused or is just pausing too long making theories or complains just for the next scene to deny it or confuse her. And sometimes i find her being so sadistic even as a joke to be poor taste. I think thats it, i try to enjoy but those few things annoy me but thats also not enough to drive me away. The choices are not simple like what you presented. She has flaws imo and i think its strange that you dont have any idea of how people could get dissatisfied, unless thats an hyperbole. You can always improve and you need valid criticism to do that, and, of course, giving crap is not helpful, its the opposite. It can make the person avoid any criticism and upset them. Overall, i think the reactions, specially AOT, would benefit from an theory section on the end of the video. It preserves attention and allows her to use full knowledge of the episode to create theories and analyze stuff.

Alicia trying to gaslight herself into thinking Armin's plans were successful vs Erwin. His success rate in this scenario is higher overall but it's because Armin had two different plans. The one for the Armored Titan failed the same way Erwin's did. Both plans succeeded till a last minute delay by someone who didn't come up with the plan and the Cart Titan snatched em up. Haha and I get you trying to defend a reason to give it to your fave char but if we wanna break down even just this situation there's more to it than just who's plans worked. I'd say Erwin was in the harder position to make a plan cause he had no assests to deal w/ the Beast Titan and made the hardest call you can just to give his Ace a chance to end him which all played out exactly as Erwin planned.

Erwin's plan was 10 times better than Armin's, and that's totally in a objective perspective, Armin had a lot more time to think about the situation, and he'd already knew previously that this scenario could've happen, meanwhile in the other site of the wall there was no way of Erwin knowing previously that Zeke would've massacre the 80% of the scouts with a shotgun boulder, Erwin also had a lot less time of thinking, he not only needed to mentalize his own dead but also convince the new scouts to suicide charge against Zeke (which shows how great of a commander and a leader he is)

Oh my actual god. At the scene where they have to make the choice between Armin and Erwin, Alicia's falling for the ethical fallacy that permeates the whole series. Placing value on those you're personally tied to over those who could aid humanity in its entirety. The kind of selfishness that deceives the very people it inhabits. Choosing loved ones over the obvious morally good decision. Even to the point of laughing when someone you hate is killed, despite them being a human being, being eaten alive, brutally killed, never seeing their loved ones again, you're so radicalized by the camaraderie of the Scouts that you're actually enjoying a man being murdered. With the only reason you hate him being because you don't know what he truly wanted, you're _ignorant_ of another person's struggles. And yes the word radicalized is VERY purposeful here, seeing outsiders with their own goals and views as inhuman enemies, in a show where _every single character in the ENTIRE show has a _*_GERMAN_*_ name._ And their entire country is surrounded by three _giant walls._ -(cough berlin wall cough)- Alicia, if you're reading this, I want you to keep this conundrum in mind all the way through the rest of the series, AoT's mission statement is to make you feel horrible for even thinking like this and god damn does it succeed.

A couple callbacks: Eren being taken away from Armin looks exactly like how he looked when he was taken away from his mom by Hannes. Levi ensuring Erwin that he will kill The Beast Titan, is similar to the way Levi was first introduced. Where he speaks to a dying solider and gives him a speech about how his sacrifice was not in vein. He ask Petra, "Do you think he heard me?" and Petra replies that he did. In this case though, Hange says "He's dead." Edit: I'm assuming because of the line "I see." the implication is that Erwin didn't hear any of that.
