The voice of Paul Carrack, a class act, and one you might have heard on songs by Mike & The Mechanics (The Living Years and Silent Running) and Squeeze (Tempted). They were one-hit wonders here in the UK. One striking thing about this absolute choon is that it only really has the one verse!

When you think of ‘blue-eyed soul’ the US had Hall & Oates, Rundgren & others… but when you think of the UK in that category, there’s one huge name: PC He had this hit, and hits singing “Tempted” for Squeeze, “Living Years” for Mike & the Mechanics, and several hits on his own huge solo album, “One Good Reason” The dude sang with various other groups and did studio and touring support, too. Just high on my list of songwriter/vocalists! Happy Holidays! His voice is legend.

As long as you guys know that Ace is a one hit wonder. But their lead singer Paul Carrack went on to major success with several other bands and had a successful solo career. He is from Sheffield England, same town that brought us the great Def Leppard. It’s England’s 4th largest city. Paul Carrack is considered one of the best singing voices to ever come from England, a real National Treasure. OK here is the hit songs you want from Paul Carrack solo and singing in other now famous bands. How Long by Ace Tempted by Squeeze Black Coffee In Bed by Squeeze The Living Years by Mike And The Mechanics Silent Running by Mike And The Mechanics I Need You - Paul Carrack Solo Don’t Shed A Tear - Paul Carrack Solo One Good Reason - Paul Carrack Solo Hey You by Pink Floyd - Sang by Paul Carrack at “The Wall” Live Concert Celebration when the Berlin Wall finally came down. One final song suggestion Young Lust by Pink Floyd - performed and sang by Bryan Adams at The Wall Live Concert Celebration at the Berlin Wall for seeing it finally come down, it rocks! Concert Orchestratrsted by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd. I am not throwing you guys a curveball or deep dives, all of these songs were released as singles and got radio play. Try to listen to (official video) or studio versions of the songs (that’s the versions that are recorded in a studio, put on a album, and released to radio) unless otherwise I noted with the word live, meaning it was a concert performance. Greetings from Kentucky, Happy New Year Nick and Lex

It always gets a great receptionas it was a hit here in Germany too. Pal Carrack's voice is amazing. Seen him several times live solo as well as with Mike and The Mechanics back in the day. One of these days I'm going to go Achmed The Dead Terrorist (thanks Jeff Dunham) when someone says Yacht Rock. 😅 Back in the 70's we called it jazz/rock fusion or adult contemporary since it was played on a lotnof the Billboard Top 100 stations but it also crossed over to album oriented rock stations as well. I can see the comparison with Hall & Oates and they can be compared to Ambrosia, Firefall, Player, 10cc, The Doobie Brothers and some others from the mid 70's. Great reaction.

You are right - it’s very Hall & Oates, isn’t it. A fabulous song. I think it was a one hit wonder for Ace, as I don’t remember any others by them.
