Great point. What is your time on this planet worth? Spending less of it at a laundry mat, and traveling to and from it are worth thousands to me. You can get money back, but you can't get time back.

We like laundromats as we get all laundry done at once. We save time by doing it all at once. While I get groceries my husband does the laundry. In 2-3 hours we accomplish both tasks for the week. We usually do it ona rainy day.

Moving into a fifth wheel DRV that already has a washer/dryer. We have no specific space (and no real space for coats/jackets/raincoats or even clothes cleaning products and even brooms/mops. However because the RV will remain parked in a permanent space I do believe we will eventually build a storage shed or keep them in the basement of the rig to help store those things. It’s a difficult choice but I think the above will just have to work instead of taking them out of the rig.

We put a vented combo Spendide into our new 5th wheel (installed it.ourselves). We've only been out in it twice, so far, but would never be without one. Love the convenience and coming home without a bag of dirty clothes. We bought a European one just like it when we first got married in 1986. We worked night shifts so I'd turn it on while we slept and we'd wake up with clean clothes. Love your channel, started watching even before we bought our first one last year.

First motorhome had a combo. Better than not having one. Second motorhome had a stacked washer and dryer. Loved it. Wouldn't RV without it. We drove over 70,000 miles in six years of motorhoming, including to/from Alaska. Had a couple of failures which I repaired myself. We normally used full hookups so never had a water usage/dumping issue. We obviously had more storage in our diesel pusher than a fulltimer may have in a fifth wheel, so closet space wasn't a real issue.

Thank you for sharing your experiences as well as the pros and cons associated with the purchase/install… My wife and I are not RV people yet, but we’re working towards it… The few times that we’ve needed to utilize a laundromat while traveling it’s not been too bad of an experience. However, of those few times there were a couple that we could have done without, the ones without air conditioning or the machines that don’t work properly, or smell so bad it makes you wonder what the last user put in there… I think the convenience, as well as time savings far outweigh the costs.

Go to the local laundromat in a little town, find the bulletin board (there WILL be one), and you can find out about every raffle, church pot luck dinner, babysitting services, and “handyman for hire” in the whole area! I'd much rather just use full sized machines in a CG laundromat, use two or three at a time, plus a couple of big dryers. Yes, I have to spend some quarters. Zero maintenance and save my space in the RV for other stuff. Also every additional plumbing connection is more maintenance, ditto electrical. Most my camping is dry camping, no hookups anyway at National Parks. And with the senior pass, NP camping is incredibly cheap.

We aren’t full-timers, but we go camping typically every month. We have a 2021 Grand Design Reflection 367BHS - and when we ordered it, I also had the Splendide 2200 vented combo installed before we even picked it up when it came in. We LOVE it. Our young grandkids go with us a lot, and it’s so nice to be able to throw their dirty clothes right into the washer/dryer. It’s also nice to not have to take tons of clothes with us on trips. We paid about 1900 total for the unit & installation - and have NO regrets. We also researched all of the brands available - and Splendide always came in as the top choice.

We do boondock and don't think the space and weight is in our favor. We are conservative wearing our clothes more than once unless we have stains or are sweaty. We are snowbirds so wear tank tops and shorts = smaller loads. We have plenty of clothes to go a week or more without doing laundry. I can also wash our clothes in a washtub and hang out on our detachable clothes line.

Sometimes it's NOT the money, it's the convenience and knowing what has been in the washer you are using. And NOT having to haul your cloths to the laundry matt. I can not elaborate enough about the pluses of having a washer drier in the unit. We don't use our washer when boondocking but the longest we normally boondock is 15 to 18 days and we don't need to do laundry to survive that long. It's not always about the money.
@LizAmazing3 жыл бұрын

I really regret not getting the combo unit when we ordered our rig. I’d trade the extra bed for it right now, if we could. LOL! At home, our condo building only allows ventless dryers (separate units, but same tech). Yes, it takes a little longer, but not much. It’s also a very quiet machine that works very well.
@SuperSushidog3 жыл бұрын
We're glad you're decision has worked out well for you. It wouldn't work for us because of our lifestyle. We've been FTing for 3 yrs in our 36ft motorhome. We like to boondock a lot, 7-8 or more months a year. The best part is being able to live in some of the most beautiful wilderness areas imaginable, and not being sandwiched into an RV space, lined up with 50-100 other RVs like sardines in a can. The savings generated by living rent free on Forest Service and BLM land doesn't hurt either. Of course there are challenges, like in any worthwhile endeavor. Stretching our limited water supply and tank capacity is one of them. We carry 110 gallons with us, which is usually enough to last the 2 week BLM and FS limit before we must move, dump and take on water. It's our limiting factor, but it's just enough if we are frugal with showering and dishwashing - our two biggest water uses. We have three, 5 gallon collapsible jugs in our compact car toad that we must sometimes fill to help us squeak by, like we did today, as our dog needed a bath and we used some extra water cooking, washing rice, cleaning fish and such, as we eat sushi often (I'm a retired sushi chef). We have a 15 gallon blue tote that just fits in our car, to haul off excess gray water when necessary. I'm afraid that a washer and dryer would stretch our water supply a little too far. Plus there's the added electrical consumption that would require running the generator for a couple hrs. a load (about $4 in gas.) Being smaller than the big machines we currently use, it would require at least 5-6 small loads a month, or about $20 in generator gas just for laundry. Normally our 620 watt solar array is sufficient for 90% of our modest electrical needs. This doesn't take into account the space/weight capacity we'd be losing - important when you travel with full tanks as we do, nor the high initial expense of buying and installing the compact washer/drier to begin with. Then I must consider all the extra trips to town for water (which sometimes costs as much as 40 cents a gallon) and dump. All together, it seems like an expensive proposition that is not at all convenient, considering all the extra labor involved. The 4-5 months that we sometimes winter over in a FHU RV park, (not this this year, as we will be on a BLM LTVA) we also have in-park laundry facilities available that are convenient and relatively inexpensive, costing about $20 a month, similar to your experience. But if it works out for you based upon your lifestyle, that's what matters.
@LizAmazing3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your comment, Chip! Very well thought out about what it's really like to boondock and the different variables you are dealing with. Would love to chat around the campfire with you someday- IF you ever get to a campground! I know we would learn a lot about boondocking!

Before this, had you given any thoughts to those hand cranked/spun washers for the "dainty" things? They use about a gallon of water. We wash the light things (underware etc...) Then hang them out to dry or lay them on a towel...depending... Seems that is the most frequent things we run low on when out and then hit the laundromat for the heavy stuff (my outerwear and some of her pants). They are cheap, easy to use, do a good job and take about 15 minutes to wash and rinse and hold either a couple of shirts with 3-4 days of undergarments and socks, or 4 shirts each of ours, or 3 or 4 shirts and shorts of hers. I cannot remember the name and it has worn off as we have had it for years....

Thank you for sharing your experience with the W/D in your rig. Please give us a long term update in the future of any issues with it. We are considering going to a fifth wheel from a TT and my wife says her #1 have to have is a W/D. I am surprised nobody makes a dryer that uses propane, seems that would halt the issue of poor drying. I would think they could use a vent similar to a RV furnace to use the outside air for combustion.

Hooks with quick connect water to shower supply and hang the drain on the water knob. I easy remove it when Shower needed to shower. Best to raise it couple inches, and I lucked out with a small heavy duty refrigerator adjustable plastic stand that has level bubbles... used to make it precise if needed. Many settings and nicely one load Washes 2 good size each load, 2 jean, 2 shirts, 2 under ware, 4 socks and pillow cases! Drying? well Mostly let solar take of it, otherwise take two or three loads to the local laundrymat. Save money and time.

We don't full time, but do winter in Florida. Our last 5th had the stacked/vented washer and dryer by Splendide. Loved them. New rig only has space for a combo so we got the Splendide once again but due to Covid and supply issue our dealer could only locate a non-vented one (7200XC) which I was not happy about. However, after having used it for a couple of months, we are extremely happy with it. Doesn't make our rig any hotter inside than the vented ones nor does it take any longer to do laundry. We previously knew people who had a combo unit and complained that clothes came out not dry and were wrinkled - well I only have this to say. If you don't overload your machine and remove your clothes after the cycles finish there is no problem with damp wrinkly clothing. That was the fault of the users. We're very happy with our combo and would probably get the combo again in the future even if we had room for the stacked. JMHO

I winterized it maybe 8 yrs ago and have never even opened the door to it. LOL I was thinking about it the other day and thought maybe I should run it and make sure it works. I know several people who found the plumbed drain line still had the stopper in it and had a spill. some had problems with the water lines leaking and one even had a problem with the vent for drying. So maybe I should test it out before having to NEED it and something doesn't work. Thanks for the reminder! HUGS~Donna

Hi Donna, I agree that a test-run would be a splendid idea 😉 Thanks for watching. P.

Can’t believe you paid to have it installed 😂😂 2300 bucks for two hoses and a plug in, granted you gotta have a 4 inch hole saw and some simple measuring for the vent but my god be man

Yep. I think he didn't want to deal with it after the trauma from the RV accident. Thanks for watching, Jesse.

You guys are AOK and do a good job on your vids thanks. I have the $100.00 plastic washer spin dry in the back of the truck, it's a little better then using a rock down by a creek.

Sounds way better than a rock in the creek!!

Wow! $2,300 guys..sorry but you got robbed but as long as you are happy (as I was with my stackable) and you can afford it then it is all worth it. At the end of the day (at least for me) it is all about comfort and being happy with the set up.

Yep. We are glad it worked out and that Paul didn't have the added stress (after the accident) of having to install the washer. Thanks for watching and commenting!

We’re retired and have lived in our 26ft TT for 1.5 years and there’s no way to fit a washer/dryer in but I find a day for rest and chores (laundry/shopping) to not be an issue. If we worked full time I could see it being a nice convenience though.

Yes. We don't regret our 2+ years doing laundry at a laundromat. It really was no big deal in the grand scheme of things. Enjoy RV life and happy travels!

I have the stacked Splendid (2020), and seems to only takes about 5gal or a little less. Really like having available, and since only myself, storage is enough.

We ended up becoming full time in our RV due to a fire in our condo building which destroyed or damaged a number of units two weeks before we planned to list it for sale. Nearly a year later, repairs are expected to be done in December. We recently purchased a GE ventless steam washer/dryer combo. A cycle takes 2-3 hours,. I had read that this type of machine does not dry clothes very well. The first load I ran, I reached in after a cycle and was upset to find out that the clothes felt damp. I took the load out and set them on the bed - and a minute later realized they actually were dry. My theory is that I’m feeling the steam from the machine. I have never had an issue with anything getting dry except with some delicates. A clothes rack that fits in our shower solves that problem. I am also thrilled to not have to drag clothes to a laundry. Happy with our decision.

Glad to hear this, Terri! Sounds like a good machine. So sorry you are dealing with the aftermath of the condo fire. I bet you are looking forward to December!!

Ok, Liz, you are correct. I have the combo washer dryer same kind as you have. I am a Widower and I hate hanging around a Laundrymat. I try to keep my life simple and this is great. Set it all up to wash and dry my clothes in one swoop. Don't have to be there to change them to a different machine just set it, go to town, eat and come back and all done. Do not beat up my clothes. The dealer was against it only I think it hard for them to install. Did it anyway despite their negativity, the Greatest thing ever I think. The only problem I have is it will not fold a fitted sheet. If it did perfect I say. GET VID I have the combo unit all in one.

Hi Ron! So glad you stuck to your guns and got the combo unit you wanted! Yes, now if only they will make one that will fold a fitted sheet!!!! Love it! Thanks for being on our team! See you in the next video.

We have a washer-dryer combo in our 38 ft diesel pusher motorhome... In our experience the small size of a load of clothes and the time required to wash and dry limit our usage to "occasional"... Spend two days doing the week's laundry in the coach or take it to a laundromat and have the whole thing done in an hour and a half... If you have a few "dainties" or items you need right away then yes, the convenience of doing the wash in the coach is worth it...
@LizAmazing3 жыл бұрын
Yes. It's not for everybody. Honestly, if we had not had the wreck we likely would still be going to laundromats. We did that for over two years. But now that we have our combo, we love it. We do laundry once every two or three days. Glad you found something that works for you! Happy travels!
@foxlover03 Жыл бұрын
Just recently purchased our new Park model type travel trailer. It came with the same exact washer/dryer combo. We just tried it out. Stated that you can wash a larger load then dry. Take some clothes out and only dry have a dryer at a time. I put in 4 pairs of men jeans/work pants. Had to take two pairs out after first dry cycle to let the other two dry and then put the other two back in. Seems to get very hot and feels like it is steam drying the clothes even on Cotton. It sure does take a long time and be careful after opening it because it does get very hot inside. I think it is good to have especially since we have dogs. I can wash the sheet they lay on or small items like that if need be. I think the more serious part for us is making sure we winterize it properly. Safe travels.

i do not yet have an rv... still learning more before i do anything, and besides, i will be in market for cheapest possible since i am not rich lol.... seems smaller basic class c fits that bill the best, while being able to keep car vs. have to buy a 50k or more truck too, single man so good enough for just me, preferebly without bunk over cab, put ent. cent. or storage up there instead. the one thing that i can not do in one of those, at least not cheaper smaller ones, is put in washer dryer usually, and that is very important, can live without it sure, but laundry mats do suck, especially if one you never been to before, no idea who had what in the machine before you, very boring to sit there, usually bar next door to go to, but that gets old real fast too... i would strongly consider putting a storage rack on rear reciever along with car dolly (they do make double receivers, i have one in my parts) put a combo unit outside on that rack, in a protected box of sorts, can run hoses to your outside water connections and power, have the grey water go directly in to portable container such as you have.... just wash my clothes outside lol, or if on your own property can just set it there in a little shed same way.... where i live now the washer and dryer are outside in a storage room... no different than putting one on the outside storage rack, just need to build a box around it to protect it from elements and theft is about all.... maybe save some money and just put house side by side small ones on back rack lol.... but they probably not hold up to all the driving and bouncing around as a true rv model would.... but having the ability to wash clothes anytime the thought crosses your mind rather than have to plan for it, and actually go somewhere, is very well worth it... only thing more important to me than that is a shower lol i can crap on the ground if need be, but i cant go out to eat or possibly apply for work somewhere if i not had a shower in 5 days.

Hi! Sounds like you are doing the research to make RV life work for you. Yes, Class C's are a good value and have plenty of storage. I've owned two of them. You may want that bunk over cab for storage- it's huge! Also, there is an $80 RV washer that you may like. Something to think about for down the line. Happy shopping and planning! See you out here!

100% agree with the convenience factor. We find also that we don’t need to pack as many clothes for the long trips which then saves space. Our motorhome was purchased used and came with the washer dryer and I never thought of it as a must have item. But now I would never do without. If it breaks down it will need to be quickly replaced. Now the dishwasher, on the other hand, quickly got repurposed into the Vitamix storage drawer!
@LizAmazing3 жыл бұрын
Oh that's so funny about your dishwasher! As you may know, Paul LOVES to wash dishes so we have no worries there! Yes, the convenience factor can't be overstated!!! It's true about clothes as well, suddenly I have more than I need and so I need to offload some. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@janallen36733 жыл бұрын
Buy one of those pole hangers for the back seat of your pickup, it hangs off the hooks across the back seat, that's where we hang our winter coats a jackets! Works great, it only takes up about half of the space of the back seat and isn't in your mirror. Of course that depends on how many winter coats you have! 😄
@LizAmazing3 жыл бұрын
Now that's a great idea!!! We don't have tons and are glad we could keep them in their spot by getting the combo. If we get lots more hanging clothes now we know where to keep them, thanks to your comment!

The fact that you are not washing your personals in a machine with thousands of other people and their animals is worth whatever it costs. It would shock you what they put in those machines Because people think Well it’s not mine so I can do ash this dog blanket with puke still on it. Somebody else can deal with it. And I got mine when my husband got a case of jock itch that caused and edema that sent him to hospital. In his whole life of 70 years he had never had that

I converted my second bathroom into a laundry room. I got an LG 2.4 cuft. Ventless combo. Cost me 1200. I did the conversion myself. I've had it for 1 year and a half. We are full timers with 2 kids so it was worth it for us. We were spending near $100 a month before hand. It has paid for itself already.
@Milesco3 жыл бұрын
How well does it work? I've heard the ventless ones don't dry very well.
@SteveBergkamp3 жыл бұрын
I'm working on my 20th day of full timing. I have a washer and dryer, and that was a mandatory thing for me. I didn't want to spend extra time in the laundry mat. I work full time so time is precious. With the in house washer and dryer, I'm free to do loads whenever is convenient. Lots of time at night. It's really hot in Texas right now, so I do at lease one load a day. So far so good. I think time is the most precious thing we have so being able to skip the L mat makes the investment well worth it.
