Always have them test alternators, even new ones, at the parts store. I even take in ones I order and ask them to check it for me as a courtesy. I have had remanufactured and new dead out of box. It’s not fun when you find out you got a lemon or a bad reman after you installed it in a car that is a real pain to work on. Great upload, thank you.

I would say a higher amp is for something like for service vehicle like a police car or pickup truck for extra lights install or trailer light cables for the brakes and turning lights IDK I think that what the higher amp are for and there were cars back then that came with towing equipment and basically there was an option for AM/FM that came with CB and 8Tracks all in one radio from 1972-1980.

Right. The original Mopar alternator architecture supported about 60A so anything above that either went to a physically larger unit that Chrysler manufactured or a Leece-Neville.

heres my theory its rated 34 amps cause it gots hot if u draw 50 amps from it but the 50 amp one doesnt ?? so its basicly like if u lose the silicone lottery ? any way u could test that ?

If the rotor and stators are indeed the same in both the low amp and higher amp alternator, the only way I can see that the amperage would be different would be by the actual RPM of the rotor in the two types. The diameter of the belt pulley plus the diameter of the crank shaft pulley plus the idle speed that a given vehicle's engine was set to would be the variables that might deliver that difference. Its an interesting issue.

They don't explicitly list the diodes, so there's no proof that is or isn't case. Everytime i have bought diodes though they have cross-referenced to all alternators below 100A.

Maybe just the replacement parts were one size fits all. Original alt probably was the rated value.

As with starters from the 170 CI Slant Six to the 440 Ci Wedge. All the Same. One exception the 426 Hemi. All bolt up & wire the same. All interchange.

Actually two exceptions...manual transmission Hemi's and Slant Sixes with a HD clutch. The large clutch is what prevents a gear-reduction Mopar starter from being used.
