Love this video! Im a Caymanian-Jamaican and when I voice this to other Caymanians they fail to believe me. We did everything with Jamaica, we even gave birth there. I think alot of people are in denial about what happened. Theres an exisiting rift between jamaican nationals and Caymanian today that started from the seperation.

There are many, good Jamaicans living in The Caymans today. That is undisputable, BUT there are also MANY Jamaicans, stress on the word MANY, who are involved in nefarious criminal activities. This is also indisputable and THAT is the cause of the rift, as well as BAD behaviour.

This is glaring propaganda. Jamaica did not govern Cayman Island in the way you present. The British government administered Jamaica and Cayman Island together. Cayman has no natural resources so resources were exported from Jamaica as the development of Jamaica by the British was far advanced. Hence the reason why they used the Jamaican dollar at that time. Turks and Caicos also used the Jamaican dollar. Your video will give the uneducated that this was done by Jamaicans and not your British overlords
@keisha5184

@@jermanLuga Obviously we were both governed by British but British gave Jamaica authority over Caribbean countries. It's not propaganda it's historical facts. Jamaica did govern Cayman. They appointed Commissioners for the islands, we also shared governors. When Jamaica was going independent the Cayman Islands was suppose to join Jamaica and they changed their minds on that day. We broke links with Jamaica when independence occurred then turned fully to the crown.
@jermanLuga

@@keisha5184 You are attempting the same propaganda stated in this video. The salient point is Britain made the decision to administer their Caribbean interest from Jamaica because it was larger and more developed. This had nothing to do with the Jamaicans in Jamaica. This propaganda has resulted in Jamaicans claiming that caymanians are Jamaicans which is ridiculous.

As a Jamaican, I knew that and lived there for ten years. Almost half of the population has Jamaican heritage as far back as 1700. They depended on Jamaica for their livelihood and running of their country. The airport was built in Jamaica, and Jamaicans created the first supermarket, Chinese restaurant, and other establishments. Edward Seaga wrote their constitution in 1959 in one day.

Great presentation! Thanks for this informative article. We must however acknowledge the indigenous people before the Spanish and the British. The original inhabitants of the Cayman Islands were the Amerindian people known as the Taíno. These indigenous people originated from the larger Caribbean area, specifically from the regions that are now Cuba and Hispaniola, around the 10th century AD. They lived across the Caribbean islands and were known for their fishing, farming, and salt collection.

Enjoyed the video, I was aware of the colonial Jamaica/Cayman connection, but hadn't given it much thought. Thank you for the journey into the past. Ironically, I have my eyes on the Cayman island for being politically and financially stable, relatively crime free and affording a far safer way of life. I often wondered, what the outcome would have been if Jamaica had adopted the Caynam islands decesion.

I suppose the medical facilities was much better in Jamaica back in them days. they choose the bird in their hand rather than the unknown They don’t get to choose a government and the benefit of that is they didn’t end up with tribal politics like us

When Cayman was under Jamaica don't forget, it was the British that ruled Jamaica and Cayman. Not the independent government of Jamaica as many Jamaicans think that "a we used to rule Cayman" no!! Its the British or the caucasian what they called the White Man. Caymanians owes Jamaican nothing as we go there for economic reasons. The visa started by Jamaican comitting to much crime on the little Island and PJ didn't like it he was priminister at the time so he reciprocated the visa system. Many workers are still coming from jamaica. There is a big family ties with Honduras Bay island and keys as well to Cayman. As many Caymanians go to the keys for fishing and survival back in the days. The music in your video was a true fitting and reflection of Caymanian music. We decided to relocate back to Jamaica from the beauity Cayman Island for religious purpose and where we can do more farming. My first husband full Caymanian and my second husband mom is as well..

Let me addresses some of those prejudices Cayman islands people them, who is talking trash 🗑️ about Jamaica and violence. Let me remind them from all of the rest of the Caribbean islands, that when they are talking about crimes in Jamaica. When all of the islands people is running to the United States, where there is no country in the world is more violent like the United States. The United States having the most people in prisons because of violent crimes, the United States having the most people in prisons over 2. 5 million. More than most of the countries in the Caribbean islands, away from Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, Panama just to mentioned the countries have more population than. People in prison than the United States and yet, just because the United States is very rich. Nobody in the rest of the Caribbean islands really thinking about the violence in the United States, but if one person got killed in Jamaica. The rest of islands is bad mouthing Jamaica, while they have their fair share of crimes too. How can you put little Cayman islands with Jamaica, a country with over 3 million people with a country with a hand full of people. When you looked at the kind of hypocrisy amongst the rest of Caribbean islands against Jamaica and violence, when all of them is running to the United States the world most violent country. Only because they can reaped financially success there, so they all ignored the kind of violence and. If one person got killed in Jamaica, they are all labeling Jamaica the most violent country in the world. While they are running to the United States where there is no country in world having more guns on the streets like the United States, where all of the other countries is running to. They all ignored the violence just for wealth, in the United States. They said that over 425 millions guns in the United States, more than the entire population of 342 million people and. You Cayman islands people is not afraid to go there, but you are scared of going to Jamaica biased against the country. So when anyone of the rest of islands people them is killed in the United States, I personally don't sorry for anyone of them at all. Because they are too biased against Jamaica, so what they sow , it is what they are going to reap. They will risk their lives to living into a country where is like a war zone, because of financial benefits. I would like someone from the Cayman Islands to respond to my comment and, tell me the difference between living in the United States comparing to Jamaica and violence. With all those mass shootings in the United States all over the country, in the schools, churches, malls, clubs on the streets you named it.

Yes, I do agree-Jamaica chose a different path. Unlike Jamaica, the Cayman Islands didn’t become independent and are still a British Overseas Territory, and a successful one at that. Caymanians are British citizens and use British passports. I’ve heard that there was a time when Jamaicans could travel to the Cayman Islands using just their birth certificate. Is that true? When did this change, and when did the requirement for a passport to visit come into effect?

What about the role Vivian Blake played in the Cayman Islands constitution? When Norman Manley died many considered him to be his successor. With Michael Manley getting the nod over him, he parted ways with Jamaica and went to the Cayman Islands where he was pivotal in shaping the political landscape of the islands and laws.

Cayman Islands could not have been ruled by Jamaica because at the time Jamaica was under British rule. We were considered a part of the Parish Westmoreland. That's like saying Kingston was ruled by Jamaica. The British government in charge of Jamaica did little to nothing for Cayman Islands so much to the extent that Caymanians had formed there own unofficial government. And what's this about Cayman using Jamaican dollars !!?? We never in our history used the Jamaican dollar it was the British pound and then CI dollar (KYD). Jamaica was using the British pound as well before they became independent.

@@elliottscott755 The thing about history is no one person has a monopoly on facts regarding historical events. Where conflict arise we are able to identify fact from fiction, which is a challenge you have not met successfully. Again, Cayman is successful because of the British. It could not have been a tax haven without their approval, to pretend otherwise is foolish. Hence, the reason we are a British overseas territory and have a British governor. Whilst you are drunk on your superciliousness remember that Sir Vassel Johnson was Jamaican.

Let me clarify something to put your mind at ease. I am not ignorant of the fact that other nationalities played a part in our success in relatively recent history, however; it is undeniable that Caymanians set the foundation for it. Once again it is well documented that for a long time, around the 1800s, we were mostly ignored by the British. And yes, I do know that Sir Vassel Johnson was Jamican, and I respect the part he played, but he isn't the only one who contributed, which I think you would agree with.

As a proud Caymanian, I am glad that the Cayman Islands decided not to remain with Jamaica. We would be in a big mess today if we had. I would rate this information 98% in terms of accuracy. The music is quite fitting since we Caymanians are the sole producers of American-style country music in the Caribbean - that is our musical culture, not Soca and Reggae; those came later. It baffles me why so many Jamaicans want to give up their citizenship to gain Caymanian status, and many have already done so. Why would one abandon the expansive tropical splendour, with its waterfalls, rich rivers, hillside mountains, hummingbirds, and much more beauty of Jamaica, only to squeeze onto this 22-mile-long island? Why ?

Some of those people who is in denial because they wasn't born as yet, so if you wasn't around those days. How are you going to know certain things, when you knockled heads wasn't even born as yet. Jamaica was in charged of Cayman islands although it was under the British, because the Cayman islands was considered apart of Jamaica. It is very close to Westmoreland parish, so I don't see why some of those people from Cayman islands is trying to denied. Because Cayman not even big like the smallest parish in Jamaica away from Kingston. So I don't see why some of those Cayman islands people is trying to denied, when they were born as yet. Cayman islands stop using Jamaican currency before it was changed, during those days it was pound shilling and pence. Jamaica currency only changed in 1969 the 8th of September it was called dollars and cents day, it was eventually changed out to dollars and cents day in 1972. When Jamaica fully stop using pound shilling and pence, so those younger generation don't know certain things but. They failed to listened to their elders and if we didn't destroy Cayman islands, you younger generation wouldn't have anywhere to lived . So you should be very greatful that you are getting free history and geography lessons, where you didn't haveto paid to get those information. Some of you Cayman islands people is behaving so erratic like you are better than Jamaican people, the way some of you is talking very biased. Because I don't really see anything of such about Cayman islands, because one housing schemes in Jamaica is bigger than the entire Cayman islands. I know that some of you is going to say am lying, but you can go on KZbin channel and check Portmore housing schemes in Jamaica. It have over 250,000 people living in that complex alone, so I don't really see all the excitement about little Cayman islands. You can challenge my comment, because I know how some people is very egoistical towards Jamaica. Because you may have some Jamaicans may come there talking a lot of trash 🗑️, about their own country. Because some of them is very lazy 🦥 who don't want to work in Jamaica and, think they are going to get free money if they are living in any other countries.

Jamaica was colonized by the British same for the Cayman islands. Cayman islands in not an independent state it is still governed by the British. Jamaican needing a visa to travel and stay in Cayman is simply because the British is tired of dealing with Jamaicans and their misbehaving behaviors in Great Britain which is the first place the visa was imposed on Jamaicans. My question is how can the British turn their back on their children's i say children's because the governor General is still in Jamaica which means Jamaica still answer to the British. Its just sad how they deal with Jamaica after they slave our ancestors and made their wealth off our backs and we build Great Britain. Our parents are the windrush its our sweat tears and blood that builds their booming economy of today. But no one said life would be balanced.

The majority of the local Cayman Islands government are Jamaicans or of Jamaican descent. Imagine if we didn't go the socialist path. Just imagine. Mutty Perkins discussed this topic often.
