Funny thing is that the US Supreme Court declared that tomatoes are a vegetable for tax reasons, using the reasoning that botanical classification does not matter, in common parlance and use tomatoes are vegetables, so you pay import taxes like they are vegetables and shut up. Actually, a botanical fruit is also by definition a vegetable, because a vegetable is any part of a plant that is edible. So tomatoes are both fruits and vegetables botanically.

Most berries aren't berries, but drupes. Taxonomy of vegetables is a minefield of misnomers. Like the whole "apple" of paradise in the Bible. It was NEVER an apple. Why? Apples did not exist in Judaea. Apples, as we know them today, are a fruit that is very specific in its properties. The word "apple", however, is ancient, and originally it did NOT represent modern day apples, but "fruit" in general. You see that in several European languages. Danish: appelsin means orange (fruit from china); French: pome de terre, earth fruit, or potato. Italian: pomodoro, golden fruit, or tomato. Therefore the Bible probably referred to some fruit typical of the zone, more likely than not it was a grape.
