For clarification, the third guy is the "shy guy" and if your being talked to first, it simply means that you are not the shy guy's type. I myself am a shy guy and approaching a group of women is daunting, also, I don't know if this plays into it or not, but I prefer calmer women over higher energy women. So that makes me think that shy guys tend to prefer the woman who appears to be the shy, calm, and quiet one out of the group, similar to himself. The goal of the wingmen are to help their buddy talk to the girl he likes, distract the other women, and don't get in the way of their friend, but they also lean towards the woman they like and feel the most comfortable "breaking the ice" with, IE playing distractor for their buddy. It's also a fact that men tend to be a bit focused / single minded (not stupid, there is a difference). I know I made it sound like really harsh and it might be badly phrased, but the 'you're obstacle' thing I said does not have anything to do with appearance nor personality, Michi. Like some of the comment said here, even if you're the most pretty out of them, if the last guy does not have interest with you, then you're set as the 'obstacle'. The point of this is to help out the last guy because what happens when one guy approaches a group of ladies, most of the time, the other ladies will step up and start aggro-ing at the one guy. I've been doing my part as a wingman a few times and coincidentally, that's how I met my wife. So its not like the other men there in the group does not have any interest in the other ladies. It can be both way. And you know what? My wife laughed at me when I told her the reason why I approaches her is basically being a wingman but then falling for her as we talk, and she think its cute.

1st girl is usually the friendliest and most approachable looking of the bunch. The job of the first bro to go in is to get the group of girls open to talking. The second guy comes in and clears the way so the shy guy can have a 1v1 with the cute girl of his choice. So good news, you look friendly and approachable. Also note that usually this approach is to help shy guys. If you're really bubbly, outgoing, and just generally powerful personality, you may be the most attractive girl in your friend group but you might also be scaring the shy guy. He's probably going to pick the friend of yours who's a bit quieter.

It’s always hilarious when girls are confronted with the unexpected realization that guys are very tactically minded and have taken account of how girls’ are socially minded. It’s not even as simple as chat presented to her. There are many different ways to use that tactic depending on whether more of the bros are interested in girls in the group and the personality of the bros in question. She may not even realize that she very well may have been the intended target of a friendly and outgoing guy! They always have to move first because they provide the smoothest “in” for the other bros, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t the one that needs wingmen.

The tactic is used to help the shy guy, and push him and his target together, or to help a regular guy have a higher chance to interact with his target. Not being the target doesn't mean you aren't attractive, just means you weren't the one the guy being helped was interested in at the time... Just because you are the first talked to doesn't mean that you're not the target. It depends on the situation. Some girl's have friends who will shutdown anyone who approaches their friends, so they have to be dealt with first. If one of those doesn't present themselves as obvious, the target could be approached first, while his friends pop in if needed. We understand y'all are complicated and some of y'all will get in the way of your friends getting hit on out of jealousy. I'm super outgoing and handle rejection well, so I usually don't need a wingman, but if I'm out with friends, I'll take the help. Most often I'm the wingman because I'm able to talk to anyone. I love listening to people talk and sharing stories, so I enjoy it. Not every conversation has to be about getting some. I'm not the kind of guy who does one-nighters. I'm a relationship guy.

It's important to note that being the first girl that the chatty guy of the group approaches is not about being pretty or ugly, it's about him approaching the most open and/or confident looking girl in the group. It's the two diplomats meeting each other and negotiating for their groups interests. If a diplomatic guy can manage to get with the diplomatic girl, he isn't seeing that as a loss. if anything Bro 2 on the lineup is the one taking the fall cause he has to take the heat off the girl shy guy actually wants to talk to and is thereby forced to take who's left even if they're not hot, sociable, or available.
