Growing up with my dad really prepared me for this adult life. I am that lady that Prim talks about 😂( whose father used to keep envelopes) He made understand that before you start on any project you must have a budget. He always crossed out the word “miscellaneous “ on our school budgets simply because he thought that whenever you want something, be sure of what it is exactly. Accountability as a lesson, I learnt it from him. From simple things like sending you to your grand mother, he always demanded for a report on anything. I am that person now😂 Thank you for reminding us of where we came from.

Claire I completely understand what you are saying. I am a huge fan of delegating domestic tasks. Whether it’s to a machine or a hired person. That frees me up to do things I find more meaningful. Also spot on about wealth creation and sustainability. A job is great to provide financial capital to invest, but if you get to a place where your money is growing even when you are asleep, that is true financial freedom.

Machines do make our lives easier no doubt but there’s got to be a fine balance in learning how to actually work with our hands. Some of these skills cooking, washing etc for example provided opportunity for communities or families to spend time together and bond and get to know each other because they were doing them together. But also i find that some of these skills make you resourceful or self reliant especially in the face of unexpected situations. Machines remove us from community which makes us more humane (I don’t know if I’m making sense here). And it’s not to say don’t use machines… I think both extremes can be detrimental. So how about just have the range to be able to use both. Know how to use the machines but also how to use your hands to do stuff when you can. And while we are trying to give our kids the absolute most comfortable life, we must also expose them to as many possibilities as possible including the best, mid and the worst. Listen, you could die. In the blink of an eye, your money could all go. Then what?! Being able to perform certain basic tasks like hand washing prepares one for situations when the conveniences are unavailable. I hate hand washing and chores tbh so I use machines and pay for help but those darn skills have come in handy in situations (out of my control) where I’ve not had either. For me, one of the things is giving my babies community and showing them how to build one for themselves too and especially across all class. One of the ways we do that is being present in even the most mundane family and community activities - a lot of them which include using our bodies/hands in service to those communities.

For most parents, I know the biggest thing they want to do for their kids is leave them money and property. Strangely, that's not the biggest goal for my kids. If we are financially set up well we shall definitely give them a good start because why should they struggle if i have the resources to give them a softer life BUT I do not have sleepless nights over it. If we don't have much to leave them, they will work with whatever they find or make their own. What I fear most for my kids on the other hand is my actions and parenting style, messing them up on an emotional/psychological level. I don't want to be the reason my children are going to need therapy. Lol

Respectfully I don't mean to offend Claire but there is a reason why people taught children to kunya through generations.Yes the end goal is cleanliness but trust me there are always consequences we went to school with a girl who didn't know how to wash clothes but was clean she decided to instead buy new panties every time instead of washing the old ones. Which was necessarily clean but at the same time weird .A Che who grows up knowing how to wash is at a better advantage astronomically than that who just knows cleanliness should be the end result.But I respect your opinion I just wanted to enlighten you.
@beyourownbossbabe
@beyourownbossbabe 11 күн бұрын
I totally get your point. But how is hand washing a basic survival skill? How does one who can hand wash astronomically better off? It’s a task for sure… in my books, basic survival skills I will teach my children are how to make money, how to grow your money, how to create a solutions for people’s problems so can make money, how to save an invest, how to start and grow a business, how to relate with people, how to develop your natural talents, how to navigate difficult life circumstances… hand washing clothes is a task that fetches a maximum of 100k in this world we live in. Why would I spend so much time teaching a task that won’t even help her survive in this life? Confidence to stand up for herself so people don’t take advantage of her, street smarts etc. The best she will benefit from it is clean clothes for her self. I just prefer to spend the precious time I have with my child teaching her ACTUAL survival skills. I do however understand where you are coming from and I hold space for your opinion too. ❤️
