Yup, I was in a group as a kid we sent BadBoy our demo using a James Brown sample...He brought the group "Total" out one or two months later with the same beat (Can't You See). He didn't even change anything. 🤣 We sat with a local producer (in his basement) for hours looping that beat. I remember when the Total song dropped and the producer said we couldn't do anything because it was a sample from James Brown. We were kids, and it was pretty disheartening. Well, after several people in the department that I worked in, I became the next one on the chopping block. Well, about 3 months later I was in a recovery shelter and one of the people that she had fired came through that day and drop the good news on me about her. Apparently her boss or bosses called her into the office on her vacation ( this was during Thanksgiving). They then told her that she was fired. What a way to go. After all that she did to several employees, she got hers. The union had been building a case against her and apparently they got the smoking gun to get her fired. The problem I have with Gene Deal is that he comes off as someone who though he’s had these opinions about Puffy from the jump, but had he been paid, he’d have remained a loyal soldier.
