Since it sounds like you all haven't seen it, I highly recommend Galaxy Quest. Alan Rickman, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell- amazing cast. Plus there's baby-faced Dwight Schrute and Justin Long.

Fun fact: When Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) was harnessed for the fall from Nakatomi Plaza, the director of Die Hard had Rickman drop one second earlier than originally planned. Therefore, the look of horror that you see on Rickman's face when he falls is legitimate.

When the movie was made, no one thought Bruce Willis could be a plausible action star. He was known as the smartass from Moonlighting, a popular TV show. The first movie posters didn't even have his face on them, just the Nakatomi building, because they thought it would be bad for publicity. But he became an icon. This movie became an icon. Even the baddie, Hans Gruber/Alan Rickman became an icon. Best Christmas Movie ever!

So now, whenever somebody mentions "Die Hard" in a TV show, movie, or standup, this is the movie they are talking about. Gives nice context. Many times lots of 1970s and 1980s TV shows and movies are referenced in passing, and I get them. Although, a lot of reactors seem to miss them because they don't have the frames of reference I do, having seen them all growing up. I am glad you are expanding your repertoire to better understand all those comments.

This was a totally rad reaction! Sorry I'm late to this but I just discovered y'all's channel.... I'm subscribing and turning on the notifications bell! I really like y'all's interactions with each other and I like y'all's observations and most importantly, y'all are entertaining and fun and that's what it should really be all about! What makes Die Hard a Christmas movie is the opening scene. John McClane is going to California on Christmas Eve to spend Christmas with his family and resolve differences....you know who said that Christmas is about resolving differences..... Clark W. Griswold in Christmas Vacation...a Christmas movie......and that's exactly what McClane is doing.....Hans and the other terrorists are just the side story. Plus, Hans and the terrorists pick Christmas Eve because they know that there will be less people to have to deal with. Great reaction and many blessings to you and yours.

In regards to whether or not it's a christmas movie, I always ask people this, is it's a wonderful life a christmas movie? Of course it is right? I mean it takes place at christmas and there is this idea of family and second chances in it. That's what the movies is all about and those are christmas ideals... BUT! But the movie doesn't have Santa or elves or presents, or any of those surface level things, it just so happens to taken place at christmas. If you removed the holiday from its a wonderful life, it wouldn't fundamentally alter what the story is about. And yet it would. It's the same thing with die hard. Die hard is about Jhon realizing the mistakes he's made and trying to make up for them. It's about his desire to save his family, both physically from hans Gruber and his terrorists and by making amends with his family so they can be a REAL family again. Al is sort of like his guardian angel; the one who acts as a supporting presence in the darkness to whom he can voice his fears, and who will not judge him, but will allow him to see for himself what he has done wrong and what he can do to fix it. So yes, die hard is fundamentally a christmas movie in my view, and nothing will change my mind otherwise.
