This movie really started the trend of the "realistic" hero: a down to Earth man who may not have extraordinary skills but works his way through extraordinary circumsrances. Before this action movies were defined by a lot of the actors and archetypes Hans and McClane bring up, either roided out dudes standing there and killing 400 men without reloading (modern at the time) or infinitely stoic quickdraws with notches on their belt in the old west (classics). But here comes this failing marriaged cop who's not even a detective, no martial arts skills or giant muscles, who gets scared and panics but thinks past it, played by a historically romance typecast actor.

Honestly I think the argument ends at "the entire plot only happened because there's a Christmas party" AND more importantly that the entire theme is togetherness, rekindling love and appreciating what we have. Fighting for family values and love overpowering greed and materialism at the core. A flawed every man brings his estranged family back together to overcome the hardship of jaded thieves who only value money over human life. It has such core themes of classic Christmas films it's kind of silly that there's even an argument that it isn't a Christmas film.

This movie was a groundbreaker when it comes to action. It was the first of its kind to have the hero be an everyday guy. He wasn’t some muscle bound hero that never bled. He was the guy next door who was fighting with his wife, always had a smart comeback, and more than bleeds - he gets his ass kicked. The other thing this movie did different that set the tone for future films was the bad guy was a well-dressed, well-spoken, educated man. Someone who if they sat down next to you at a bar, you’d enjoy conversing with them. This movie defined action movies for the next couple of decades and it almost bombed and was trashed because no one thought Bruce Willis could pull off being an action hero.

I hope you will record two more reactions to the Die Hard 2 and 3 movies right away, because these are the three best parts of all five
@jdxsr8511 ай бұрын
The first three are great. The next two are generic action movies with the Die Hard title.

To be fair, he did cover her by saying he was the friend in the building. I mean ok probably because he was trying to look better to the criminals, but still. Merry Christmas.

How wrong is it to feel like that towards my family today, tomorrow? I'm exhausted about it ALL! And realizing that absolutely no one listens to me at all

Yo, I genuinely feel that getting my passport, my ID, my medicine and leaving in an Uber tonight. Like screw each and every one of them. I want to not be mad and yet, anger.

It seems like everybody is disappointed when McClane says, "Argyle, tell me you heard the shots..." then it shows Argyle sitting in the Limo talking on the phone with the music blaring. What everyone doesn't get is that Argyle is in the underground parking 30+ floors of concrete and steel below where the shots were fired. After the body hits the police car and McClane says, "Welcome to the party pal," it turns out the sergeant's name is actually Powell.

Welcome to the pants party! The ultimate Christmas movie and I've been saying that since I first saw it on video back in '89.

Okay the tv dinner joke.... IN the 80s, TV DInner's were generally packed in aluminum foil to seal in freshness. ONly in the late eighties, early nineties did they switch to plastic. SO prior to the switch, you had no choice but to use an oven to cook them. There were no microwaveable tv dinners back then.

Same as with "The Terminator" and likely bunch of films. Two grown-ass bearded men, never seen Die Hard or Terminator. Yeah right. You're being duped....and unlike you, they don't have to go real 9-5 work because of that (Special thank you to their dimwit 9-5 working Patreons)

Merry Christmas! The only thing I'll say about the Christmas Movie debate is that almost *every* Shane Black film takes place around Christmas hahaha. Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Last Boy Scout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Long Kiss Goodnight, Iron Man 3 - the list goes on :D

Here are my thoughts on why this is a Christmas movie. Al is tiny tim, unable to pull his gun until he has to. Argyle is the Ghost of Christmas Past, bringing up Johns past to lay the road. Ellis is the Ghost of Christmas Present. He is the reality of what John is dealing with right now. And the guy on the airplane is the ghost of Christmas future. He needs to get John to take off his shoes to eventually experience pain, it is moments after John walks through broken glass when he gives his heartfelt speech about Holly. and just a little extra Ellis, when he is sitting with Hans, one of the villains hands him a glass only filled about a quarter way with coke. He likely asked for "a little coke" expecting the snow you alluded to.

Everyone says it's not a Christmas movie, even Bruce Willis. In the opening title we ear sleigh bells, there's Xmas music in the limo, it takes place at an office Xmas party w/a giant🎄, dude wishes John a merry Christmas and kisses him (fu*king CA), when Johnson & Johnson cut the power the breakfast club principal even says its Christmas. Hell his wife's name is HOLLY! If u can't come to terms with the fact that this is a Christmas movie, then please just go sit in the corner. Also, anyone who's a fan of Home Alone 2, the Grinch, Elf and Gremlins, then I HIGHLY recommend you give the 8min Die Hard movie over on Hack the Movies. It's pretty damn funny.

Like Michael J Fox going from Family Ties to Back to the Future, this film turned Bruce Willis from a television star (Moonlighting) to a movie star (Die Hard). This was Alan Rickman’s film debut. Robert Davi, the “white” Johnson, earned a role as a villain in the Timothy Dalton James Bond film Licence To Kill. Clarence Giltard, Jr. (Theo) landed a role in a long running Andy Griffith tv show (Matlock).

I saw Alan Rickman attend a play at a small theatre in London that I was at for my 17th birthday. I was way too shy to speak to him but I watched him interact with loads of fans for hours after the play and he seemed like nicest man ever. I don't remember what play I saw but I'll always remember him

Violent Night is an awesome Christmas movie. It's a mix of Die Hard and Home Alone.
@jmhaces11 ай бұрын
The movie is literally about a guy who put his work before his family going through a crisis during Christmas and realizing he's wrong and reconnecting with his estranged wife. How is this not a classic Christmas movie plot? Same thing with Lethal Weapon. A sad loner who lost everything and has nothing to live for gets "adopted" by a nice family during the holidays and finds a new appreciation for life, getting back on track.

Love watching you guys doing reactions. Die Hard is a Christmas movie for all the reasons you gave. Every year on Christmas Eve I watch Home Alone (for me it’s Die Hard for kids) followed by Die Hard. Might not be a star but you can get an advent calendar which is Hans falling down the building and each day he gets closer to the ground. Keep up the great work guys. Merry Christmas and have a great New Year

This is my favorite Xmas movie, I would be very surprised to learn you had never seen it. It has such great action, characters, and excellent acting. Speaking of things that say Christmas, did you notice his wife's name is Holly?
