The third movie, Die Hard with a Vegetable. Though it was missing the titular second in command, henchman who looked exactly like Huey Lewis we saw in the first movie and was pretty much every 80's era action movie staple.

More trivia: Renny Harlin, the Finnish-born director, actually used a piece by a Finnish classical composer, Jean Sibelius, at the end scene with Holly's plane landing. "Finlandia" is arguably more well-known than the national anthem of Finland. Trivia over.

When John is Sending/Receiving the Fingerprints.... He replies "Just the Fax...".... Fun fact. The first Die Hard movie was based on a story that Hollywood had been trying to make into a movie for a while. Eventually the movie script got rewritten specifically for Arnold Schwarzenegger as a sequel to his movie "Commando" (hence the multiple one-liners with limited dialogue, which was Arnold's bread and butter). When Arnold decided to pass on it, they gave the role to Bruce Willis and it became his breakout role. Another fun fact, the fictional South American country of Val Verde, where Esperanza is supposed to be from, is also the country where the bad guys in Commando were trying to have a Dictator installed by forcing Arnold to kill the President. All these three movies were written by the same screen writer, Steven E de Souza.

I would like to suggest a 1998 Soldier with Kurt Russell. About a man taken from birth to become a warrior. While marketed as an action film (and has some fun action for sure), it's more of a character study on people with PTSD, who cannot fully readjust to civillian life. Kurt has barely over 100 words throughout the film but most of his acting is eyes and slight facial changes. Also written by the same guy who did Bladerunner, noting that this is a side-quel to BR. There are some direct easter eggs, and implying of 'replacers' being new type of replicants. I saw maybe one person react to it, not really understanding the subtext.

The violence in the movies of the big studios in the 90s were brutal, I think we owe it to Paul Verhoeven, director of Robocop, Total Recall and Starship Troopers, he generated a style of violence that was copied by several directors of that time, even in this director of Die Hard 2, was Renny Harlin, I highly recommend CLIFFHANGER, the other good movie of this director, and it is with Silvester Stallone.

Great reaction like always. Did you know that Black & Decker sued the producers over a product placement scene that was cut from the film, is commonplace in Hollywood, a chunk of Die Hard 2’s budget came from product placement. Power tool manufacturer Black & Decker paid to have their new cordless drill used in the film by Bruce Willis himself. However, once the theatrical cut of Die Hard 2 finally made it to screens, the scene in question was not included. Considering the money they had paid for their tool to be shown on camera, the top brass at Black & Decker were naturally very unhappy at being snubbed. The company proceeded to sue Die Hard 2’s producers for $150,000, marking the first occasion that a lawsuit had been taken out in relation to product placement. The edited for TV version features McClane saying “Yippee ki-yay, Mr Falcon” lol, Air traffic controllers have pointed out a major plot hole: the planes would have changed course. The terrorists’ plan is to force all the planes set to land to stay in the air, putting them at risk of running out of fuel and crashing. However, when a group of air traffic controllers fact-checked the film, they were quick to point out a big plot hole: the planes would have immediately changed course and flown to the next nearest airport. Air traffic controller Dan Mooney explains, “Without even being told, all of those other flights would have redirected themselves to another airport. The pilots would wait about 20 minutes at most without communication, and then they’d go off to another airport. Bruce Willis has called it his least favourite Die Hard film (its my least favourite too). Keep up the good work.

In answer to your question, Colonel Stweart and his henchmen were using very special Hollywood plot grenades. They only explode after the protagonist in this case Maclaine has safely moved out of the blast radius. Although I'm not an aeronautics engineer, I would have to believe that a full-grown adult being sucked into an active 747 engine would result in some kind of significant engine damage. But then again, the maybe they used that special Hollywood plane that had damage proof engines. LOL!

While Die hard 2 isn't in the same league as the original (or the third one) it did lead to the amazing TV edit lines of "Yippie-ki-yay Mister Falcon" and "if you'd have moved your fat feet we wouldn't be hip deep in snow right now". : )

Someone help me with this please. So, the scene in the airport cafe, where John sees the bad guys pass a package to each other under the table. What was in that box? What part of anything they were planning required them to meet in the open in the airport cafe and pass a box to each other? Also, why did the bad guys go into the back end of the baggage moving system? Certainly there wasn't any circuitry, or hardware or... whatever...to help them with their mission, so what the heck were they doing in there? Also, do luggage conveyors have big overhead rollers that brutally crush luggage that pass under them if they're as thick or thicker than a human head? Trivia - the explosion of the jet with the bad guys taking off, the plane was a model fx shot, of course. The pyrotechnic crew went a little overkill for that fantastic explosion of the plane, which took place around 10 or more miles from any towns or civilization - the nearest town was not very happy to see just above the horizon a huge fireball explosion and then tremendous explosion sounds they had no idea what it was. That includes the emergency services, who didn't know beforehand about the shoot and big boom until the production sorted it all out afterwards. Definitely a case of "It's better to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission."! More trivia - the final overhead shot of the landed planes, emergency vehicles and people is mostly, a matte painting. Only some of the people and a few other elements are live elements. In the scene we're close in with the actors, but then the camera pulls back and booms up as we see more and more of the scene with all the landed planes on the runway - if you look closely and or freeze frame that pull-out, you'll be able to tell it's a painting... a great one, looks so real, but nope, it's mostly paint with areas left blank for the live action plates. Last trivia - the actor who plays the boss in the tower, Fred Thompson, was at the time also a US Senator. He was in quite a few movies of the time such as 'The Hunt for Red October', check out his IMDB, it's quite extensive for anyone, let alone one who's day job was US Congressman. Oh, and yes, that's the T-1000, Robert Patrick, who called the one guy who asked what he looked like, "A dead duck!".

I like Die Hard 2 a lot (although I might be a bit partial because the director is a Finn, like me) but there are two peeves for me, 1) the grenades that were thrown into the cockpit and took like 13 minutes to detonate and 2) the blue-red ammo thing. Although it works in the story, in reality automatic guns don't work like that. You can't alternate between blanks and live rounds. Automatics need either an external device in the muzzle OR internal modification to work as automatics with blank rounds. Without it you'd only get 1 round to go off and then you'd need to manually cycle the action. Everyone who has deeper knowledge about guns knows this. Even Bruce Willis knew it and complained about it but they didn't want to change the script because it works storywise. But it's still a great sequel. Part 3 ie. Die Hard with a Vengeance is even better IMO and I'm looking forward for your reaction to it. And that one is not a Christmas movie. :)

Nowadays, a director like Paul Verhoeven would have no place in Hollywood, that's why he doesn't film there anymore, they don't use so much violence in today's blockbusters, because it reduces the audience. and Paul was always a politically incorrect director, he did what he wanted.

25:40 "How delayed are these grenades?" You are correct. Grenades have a short fuse time because nobody wants the enemy to pick them up and throw them back. These grenades took more than 30 seconds to detonate which is, really, at least 30 seconds too long. IMO, this is by far the worst moment in the franchise in terms of writing. There are a few other doozies in all the movies, but this one has top billing for being both a) extremely obviously wrong and b) super easy to write the same scene so it works. I mean, all they had to do was have John already in the pilot's seat instead of on the floor, then when he hears Col. Stuart tell his men to use grenades, he straps himself in right at that moment. As the first grenade hits, he ejects. Just as easy to film, and it would be reasonable rather than having these grenades take 10x too long to detonate.
