There was a "scare" that the Glock 17 was "undetectable" and the hijacker's favorite handgun. All of this was spin, of course. The tests they ran, they also ran with a metal framed pistol, and the airport security was just as incompetent at finding that as they were at finding the Glock 17. It was a training issue, not a polymer frame issue.

5 complete fabrications in one 10-second speech. 1. The first Glock was the Glock 17, which is what was actually used. 2. No porcelain in any Glock, though the frame is polymer. 3. Glocks are made in Austria. 4. Glocks show up just fine on both metal detectors and X-ray machines. They have a pound of steel in them. 5. A typical airport head of security could have bought ten Glock 17's with his monthly salary. Maybe 15, given the generous discount Glock gave to law enforcement.

Im not a gun owner but im a gun history buff. The movie is pretty innaccurate first to cover why it innacurate its because first the glock didnt sell in the U.S so it was still this mysterious weapon. Guns were usually mostly metal with a hammer and then this unique mostly plastic polymer framed weapon from this unknown forgien company vomes out of no where and out preforms the established companies. So despite being austrian the movie says its german Next Getting the darn thing would be dificult back then and would take some importing and wouldnt be cheap and since there was no manufacturing or sales ib the us it was hard to get and could be pricy at the time. So john saying it costs more than you make in a month is an exageration but to a regular civilian its beleivable Gaston had 16 invebtions before the glock 17 so he named it the glock 17. This doesnt explain why it was called glock 7 but it is an innacuracy people would beleive if thwy didnt know glock wasnt a gun manufacturer yet Also the polymer frame was unusual at the time and so many beleived that it would pass a metal detector when it obviously would set off a metal detector because of the cartridges the spring and the striker and such. The things john said reflected what many beleived this mysterious weapon would be. Even if they werent accurate it relflects how this was a mysterious mythical weapon at the time

That airport isn't in DC, it's in Virginia. No DC laws apply there.

Die Hard is a fictional movie that takes place in a fictional universe that obviously doesn’t abide by our laws of physics or the capabilities of our real world equipment. Just accept that these ceramic Glock 7’s exist in that universe and they can bypass airport metal detectors somehow.

They really messed this scene up. They keep referring to Mcclaine as being an LA cop but he isn’t. He’s a New York cop. You would think such a mistake wouldn’t have been made.

Not a mistake. When he was talking to the cop at the start of movie, he mentioned he transferred to LA, sometime after the first movie.
