If you can remove Christmas from the equation and it still makes sense, it's not a "Christmas movie". If you remove Christmas from Die Hard, it falls apart. It's a shame that James with his neat display and collection is so hooked on streaming. I'm a physical-media-for-life guy. Die Hard is considered a Christmas movie not because it takes place at Christmas, but because it's a story about a man who just wants to spend Christmas with his family. That's what defines it, the spirit of being with your loved ones at Christmas. The same reasoning applies to the second one. A lot of people don't seem to acknowledge this. If he had no relation to anyone in the hostage situation at Nakatomi or the planes at Dulles airport then it wouldn't be considered a Christmas movie, it would just be another action film.
