It isn't Christmas in my house until Hans Gruber falls from the top of the Nakatomi building. 😎 🎄 Fun Fact: Alan Rickman nearly passed up the role of Hans Gruber, which ended up being his first film role. He had only arrived in Hollywood two days earlier and was appalled by the idea of his first role being the villain in an action film. To a degree, Rickman was right to be concerned considering his performance as Hans Gruber was so hailed that the actor had to struggle being typecast as a player of villains for much of his career.

As in Prince Of Thieves and Quigley Down Under. That villainous background worked perfectly in establishing assumptions about Snape. Alternatively, he was also memorable as an angel and a science fiction series actor.

I think one of the reasons they did not need a back story to make it more interesting is that a robbery of 640 million dollars at the time was unusual enough. That would be like a 1.5 billion dollar heist in today's dollar, a big enough amount to center a movie around.

27:46 Hans Gruber is German with a classical education and a penchant for fine English suits. Alan Rickman was English in real life so his fake German (and American) accents could just be bad. This is his first major film role, having been a stage actor prior to this.

I was all ready to defend how much Die Hard made at the box office when you brought up the Twilight comparison, only to find that even if you convert 1988 dollars to today, Twilight made more - ya got me there. Once you aside the concept of "Christmas movie" and spoil the plot, this is in fact a heist movie told from the good guys' point of view, so there's not going to be any personal history or vendetta from the thieves, they're just there to pull off a legendary crime. Hope you're having a happy holiday lady, you're making mine better 🎄❤️

In the scene where Bruce Willis fires his gun from under the table. As a result Willis lost 60% of his hearing in one ear due to firing the gun so close to his head. The scene where Willis jumped off the tower was actually shot on top of a 5 story parking garage with explosives. The force of the explosion nearly caused Willis to miss the air bag on the street below and almost wound up with a serious or near fatal injury to his head.

You were saying you didn't want Hans to "get away with it" as he was about to fall to his death. Well, he didn't get away with it, but you wanted him to spend time in jail. In American entertainment, the difference between TV show cops and movie cops, and other good guys in general, is in a TV show, the good guy catches the bad guy, in a movie, the good guy kills the bad guy.

I don't have a problem with Al who doesn't detect something is wrong at the beginning because his character arc is from the stereotypical dumb policeman to competent ally for John who ultimately saves his life at the end. I really like him because he plays an important role in the movie without having to be the hero. They have a more dynamic relationship that isn't typically found in action movies. Normally the killing of the villain is the climax where as here it's John saving his marriage and Al over coming the accidental shooting of a kid.

Hi Michal Zisman..... It was not mentioned but Alan Rickman was the lead character in the HBO movie "Rasputin"~1996 . He was an evil sorcerer that pretended to be a monk that was a part of The Romanoff's ( Russian Royality ) staff . It was my first time ever seeing Alan Rickman act before and it blew me away . I found myself mouth agape and holding my breath without realizing it for moments at a time through out the movie . He earned a Golden Globe and an Emmy in this performance . I know it is not possible to react to it here or at least I do not think it would be but if you can find the HBO movie "Rasputin"~1996 Alan did a Steller performance and I feel it is worth watching at least once . I look forward to seeing your other reaction videos .Thank you for your reactions and commentary here .

Referred to by some as former INS[2] and by others as legacy INS, the agency ceased to exist under that name on March 1, 2003, when most of its functions were transferred to three new entities - U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) - within the newly created Department of Homeland Security (DHS), as part of a major government reorganization following the September 11 attacks of 2001. Many domestic helpers, janitorial staff, and agriculture field works come to California and other states and they fear the INS/ICE.

"Detective John McClane" begins his journey from New York to California with this song: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYqrnZh8e82ffM0 Get aboard Argyle's limousine for a trip to the Nakatomi Plaza building and The Christmas Party From Hell. Let's make a "Christmas Cake." Take one "TV guy," add a stage actor, fold in a screenplay worthy of Action Adventure movies of the time, bake in an improvised oven heated with flaming C4, and garnish with 9mm bullets. "John McClane" is iconic because: He isn't a "Rambo clone," he takes damage, he has moments of fear/humor/introspection, has a working class background, and is "half dead on his feet" by the last quarter of the movie. So, "Christmas doesn't begin until 'Hans Gruber' falls off the Nakatomi Plaza building.";)

Die Hard came out in 1988. Basically two generations after WW2 when large numbers of married women went into the workplace for the first time in the US, doing jobs women had never been allowed to do. Change keeps getting faster and faster but I am not sure societies ability to deal with change has gotten much better. As someone who went to High School in the 80's John's attitudes were not uncommon. Really the only uncommon thing about him would be his willingness to consider change...

No NO no... Dont complicate the movie with unnecessary back story with Hans. Its an action/adventure movie - keep the focus on the action that will drive the adventure - having a complex backstory to make the robbery more personal would only put the audience to sleep. 99% of crime is impersonal... Do you think bank robbers know the tellers? or the bank manager? NO. They're there for the money. The security guard would see Al coming because he's got security cameras - IF he didnt come to the door Al would have been suspicious. The FBI responds to crimes of this nature - while you may not have liked the incompetence of the agents - or of any government official in charge of the police response. Its accurate. Die Hard is one of the best action movies, its a classic Christmas movie. Dont meddle with the formulae it works.
