I remember hating the Saturn version cuz of how slow Die Hard 2 was. Everything looked wierd af in the 2nd one on Saturn as well

Nice video. Episode 1 was the best of 3. 2 and 3 was almost unplayable at least on psx. A small mistake, in episode 3 in transparency test, left is saturn and right the psx.

Played both thoroughly. DH1 and DH3 are fully enjoyable on the Saturn. DH2 is the only one the port falls apart on. They tried. I think they put more work into the Saturn port and did their best. Sega kept some secrets that could have helped. Saturn was a good console to make games from scratch on. Ports become problematic.

The Saturn version of Die Hard 2 runs so slow and is so ugly, it’s basically unplayable. I haven’t played the PlayStation version in a long time, but I remember it being decent.

Huh, didn't know this was on anything but PS1. The "Die Harder" part on Saturn seems horrible.

Both are aesthetically the same but the Saturn version is slightly worse.

PS1 technically wins on all compared to the Saturn tbh. It handled 3D better and processed higher polygon(s) rate more efficiently. Plus, devs had more time to polish them a bit more on the PS1, since it was a difficult system to work with on the Saturn. The Saturn handled 2D sprites and animations better, especially with the RAM expansion, which still makes it the best system for 2D games of it's era.

I mostly agree with you. But, looking at how these versions stacked up, I already know the Saturn version could have been soooo much better than it is, if not better than the PS1 version. I imagine if those guys took the time to use the background manipulation trick, especially for the driving sections, then it should run and maybe (just maybe) look better than the og PS1 game. The Saturn ain't as bad with 3D as too many people think.

Why when wee see 19 fps on ps1 and 28 fps on saturn the game is largely slowly on the saturn???

the frame rate data you put on screen can't be even close to reality. My brain must be seeing things, because it appears the ps1 is running at a higher and more stable fps than the saturn just about 100% of the time. Even when the saturn is visibly tanking in your video to single digits it is still showing 30 fps. Great videos/content other than that. Appears to be the case in the other ps1 saturn comparison vids you have put up.I would get that looked at, as its completely off. I'm doubting the driving in die hard even exceeds 20 fps ever. The game is as choppy as hell.

There are actually a few times where the Saturn version ran better, and sometimes they even ran comparably, mainly in the later levels.

PS1 transparencies are more convincent than Saturns ... Transparency on Saturn has severe limitations if VDP1 has to be used for that ... Planed fields Saturn capabilities for transparency is very good. But polygon modeling and mainly the Textures, PS1 wins by far .... Better textures resolution, more clean textures.,.no chance to VDP1 in this case . VDP2 is a great chip, but what depends of VD1 , no way to Saturn wins PS1 Saturn .Dithering fake transparency looks terrible on my CRT on Svideo cable . But Saturn has incredible titles , specialy its excluaives .

La version Playstation l'emporte haut la main, (je précise que j'y avait joué à ce Die Hard Trilogy tout comme le premier Tomb Raider et le premier Résident Evil), elles ont toujours été meilleurs sur PS1, bien à cause de çà que je suis passé de la Saturn à la Playstation !

Dithering wurde als Fake Transparenzeffekt eingesetzt (mit composite kabel fällt das dithering nicht auf), weil das Implementieren von Transparenz beim Saturn (in vielen Fällen) via Software durchgeführt wuerden musste.

my god those saturn transparency "effects" are absolutely terrible, they are an absolute eyesore. the PSX wins hands down, graphical features like the weapon and grenade icons are better what with being 3D on DH1, the games run good on ps1 while the saturn runs ok but at the cost of graphic downgrades, its obvious the PSX was the lead platform here.

Sadly a very rushed and flawed port on the Saturn for Die Hard 1. But 2 and 3 are probably better on Saturn, especially the framerate.

I think the ps version won in that also! Just look at the smoothness and the texture details in “Die Harder”. The problem, that Sega’s Hardware can’t handle “transparent” Objekts, like glass or something like smoke, fire, the see trough walls in the first game, is also a big negative in my opinion!

@@SuperRobertson79 I always thaught that DHT was bad on Saturn. Yes, the effects and especially the first game are worse. But overall, I'm quite satisfied by the overall accomplishment on the SEGA hardware. 🙂

Saturn was never a proper 3D console to begin with. Different story with 2D arcade game ports

PS1 wins. I have both versions and I tell you now, the PS1 is NOT as smooth as is shown in this video. Also the Saturn version is not as sluggish as is shown here (it is sluggish but not this bad). If you are comparing two systems at least use real hardware.
