AmiraFans: Thank you so much for publishing this additional excerpt from the 2016 Afrikaans Is Groot Concert. Astoundingly beautiful, chills upon chills. The clarity of the sound is amazing and wonderful, and very much appreciated. According to the math, I believe Amira had to be 12 years old at the time of this performance (since, as I understand, she was born 27 March 2004), and therefore of course also when she performed Nella Fantasia during the same 'Afrikaans is Groot' concert staged in South Africa in November 2016. This means that all of these landmark performances we now have available from her from that year actually occurred before she was technically even a teenager. (!!!) I find that simply astounding, and although it is only my opinion, I feel performances like these are a great testament to both her courage and her determination, and also to her apparently considerable natural ability, which she continues to develop to this day. I hope that all is well, these days, for Amira and her family, as they continue to chart new pathways in their life, together. I hope we will see more of Amira, soon, when she is ready. The ice skating performance was wonderful, and "In The Stars" is certainly a hauntingly beautiful song. Schilpaddie. :-)

But I agree with all of your other comments, here, as well, including the bit about singing in Afrikaans, and in being able to pick Amira's voice out of the mix of so many powerful and highly skilled professional singers. Timothy Johnson I keep going back to listen to this song. Like the Nella Fantasia Amiras voice in her lower range is just exquisite. It deserves a better description but there are no other words that seem anymore adequate to describe the deliciousness of that sound. That's why I keep begging for more songs with major parts in her lower range. Remember Sissels' Sumertime. Imagine Amira singing it in her low range then expanding it to her upper range in the same manner. Or the song You Don't Know Me. Any song that can be sung with emotion. I bet, given the sound Amira delivers here she can now produce a bit of that Smokey jazz sound too. Some real music, not bubblegum pop. There are so many beautiful old songs that most youngsters have never heard that I think Would go over really big, especially with Amiras expanding vocal ability.

I think you can hear some of that new quality in the lower range in "Drift Away" (on the new CD), as excerpted by Ray at his relatively new promo video: AMIRA Proudly Promoting New Album "With All My Heart" I also saw (at another thread) that you were reiterating your desire to hear Amira re-sing some of the original classics of her repertoire, now that her voice has developed even further. :-)

Luigi, you suggesting Amira sing Summertime will further enrage the extreme section of opera purists. They consider the piece unworthy of "true opera artists". Another favorite young opera singer of mine who sang that piece got criticized and hammered by her own fans from that section (I really don't know why because she did a wonderful job of it and I find Summertime beautiful). But I'd love Amira to try her hand on Summertime. I am sure she would be able to gift us with a stunning rendition.

Yes, Afrikaans can be a bit harsher than say pure Dutch - but the language developed from 1652 when the Dutch set up a trading post in what is Cape Town today - over the next 200 years settlers from Germany and France, mainly, and of course, more Dutch emigrated to South Africa and so Afrikaans evolved into what it is today - it is a beautiful language and under threat as more than 2 million Afrikaans speaking South Africans have left South Africa over the last 20 odd years of ruinous ANC rule, to many countries around the world
