Thanks very much, yes at this scale the trim down the sides is very tricky, if thay put a raised line ,then I tend to shave the paint off the line down to the metal and burnish it .

My first car was a MK3. I had 2 I used to run on deepdish. chrome wheels and sidepipes .both 2doors aswell in red and black . Nice restoration again mate .👍🇬🇧

Really liked watching this one Martin always liked my fords Escorts and capris and the mk3 cortinas being my favourites, shame you had the problem on the side trim line but hey has you said unless you try you'll never know and again and you've repainted the car body and its looking great mate 👍. Hi Martin now this brings back a lot of memories. My dad's last car that he owned was a 4 door Cortina L with the 2,000 4 cylinder 4 speed manual. It was Contessa gold with a brown vinyl roof. I always remember the colour because when I got my first car with in a week I backed into dads car. Luckily for me my brother had a crash repair shop and repaired it for me at family rates. My brother in law had the 250 6 cylinder XLE with a T bar auto and a very nice looking hood bulge because of the bigger engine. That engine is pretty much what my Fairlane has in it so you can imagine it went like the clappers. Great job with this one and I'm glad you re painted it. Oh well the Mrs and I wish you and your lovely lady a very merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous new year. If you are going away have fun and recharge those battery's. 👍🏻

That brought back memories Martin, I had one of those Dagenham dustbins a Mk3 1600L in Diamond White, notorious for having to replace void bushes regularly, required specialised tooling to do the job. Lovely job and thanks for the tip regarding applying Metallic paint

I've restored a few of these. Best way to remove the headlights is to drill a small hole behind them and push them out . Nice colour there,reminds me of my dads first mk3 a 1600XL in met brown with the optional vinyl roof in 1972 . He then replaced it with a 2.0 GT

Class 👏🏻👌🏻👍🏻 Lucky having a spare with decent wheels.......good colour choice and smooth move not doing the trim line. These days, having bu**ered up so many paint jobs, if I'm thinking of scraping a trim line, I give it a go before stripping the paint. If it's going to be too much like hard work to get a nice result, I forget it. No harm, no foul. I always use a curved blade too. See you Christmas Day! Ho, Ho, Ho 🎅

aw, great result! sorry about the repaint, but I recognize your reasons, and as you say, things happen. interesting wheels, too, somehow they look familiar... some UK based seller on ebay offers scale 13" Rostyle wheels with real rubber tyres. haven't gotten around using them yet, there is a Taunus Mk1 coupe by Tin Wizard sitting around that needs a rework. :) my first car was a Taunus Mk2 wagon in signal green with green interior. after a few years I had the idea to go to a car meet centered around the Mk1 Taunus, and got infected. so my first "Knudsen" was a 74 4door with 1600 OHC and automatic, and it was run down to hell and back, but it drove, and it was mine. :) lasted 3 years until it started to fail for good. so I grabbed a 72 2door in daytona yellow and black innards, drove that 16 years, then repairs went over my head, and due to a badly paid job I had, I had to sell it for 50quid. (I later heard someone purchased the car to restore it, haven't heard of it in over a decade, though.) a few others came and went, a 75 2door, a 72 Consul with the 1.7... what I have left is now a 74 4door XL Taunus in sebring red with black vinly roof. the vinyl flew off so I had to paint the roof. I'm having this car for over 20 years now. I should call my restorer so I can have it back again before xmas... too bad I have no garage or anything, I have to park my cars on the street. :( shouldn't be that way, but there.

Perfection is the name of the game,imo.I've got three of these two saloons,(one ex Police with a sunroof!)and a 3rd which is the same version you have there.I painted mine red,with a black roof,that bronze-ie colour looks more like a Granada color.not sure,but i think GXL's had a 3-spoke steering wheel.Wheels look made for it,but all of mine keep the original's,as to me they look like 'Rostyles' fitted to the real cars.

Those headlight pods... are they the same as the Scammell Transporter head? Big job replacing them. Nice two-door: my Dad had a few four door Mark3s, and I remember driving them: great gearbox. Dad's last Mark4 was that colour: he had Cortinas since his first Mark1 in 1965! The scraping is really difficult: I have a Dinky Hawk to do, and building up the courage to start is a nightmare! I sympathise. Looks pretty neat otherwise!

Im the same if it’s not right I have to correct it ,my dad had a mk3 with the large headlamps it was an L I think in deep blue lighter than navy though ,the he got a brand new 2 door mk4 from Godfrey Davis Alperton near Wembley in signal yellow it was rare two door I have a corgi vanguard of one tribute to my dad he payed in 78 T plate £2,999 on the road All the best mate hope your ready for crimbo we’ve got enough grub gir a lock in 😂😂 Mark 🎅🏼🧑‍🎄😀
