Very smart, they look great 👌🏻👍🏻👏🏻 Those decals were a pain. I had it before, on a bus coincidentally, so now, if I buy decals, I always give them a flah over with the acrylic varnish and let it dry before application. Juat a little bit less fragile. Especially the longer ones like those! I would definitely have invented some new, descriptive and warming words in that situation! 🤬

Great job Martin on the buses. I like that you show how difficult decals are as I have had the same problems with them braking or folding and I had to go and order new ones. Telling others about the different grilles and dates is great as it takes time to learn the different models and cast variations.

Hey Martin. It's good to show the struggles that occure when restoring these toys. It's not as easy as it looks and there is a big learning curve for us that haven't been doing it as long. When you see the end results of what can be achieved, you know the struggle is worth it.

Hi Martin what a great transformation they came up looking like new. On my laptop the red looks bright but on my video projector it looks darker. The green looks like a grey green on the lappy and a bit darker and greener on the projector. either way they look great well done. Bummer about the first decal though and having to bye some more decals but I suppose another bus might turn up in the future. We have an old transport museum over here and they have one of those old busses on display it's a pity it's run down and not operating but they do have an assortment of old electric trams and a stretch of track about a mile long and you can jump on and off of the different trams all day. I love that type of thing. There's also a railway and air museum I got to sit in a Spitfire there but had to pay to do it. In Perth there is another air museum and they have a Lancaster there but they wanted $100 dollars to climb through the plane up to the cockpit but that was to much for me. Catch you on Wednesday mate the highlight of my week seeing your video in my in box.👍🏻

How sweet are those double deckers, Martin? They look great, despite the tribulations. I remember having one of these - and travelling on them to school! I reckon the defleeted stuff was pressed into School Run service because no one else would travel in those creaky old half-cabs! Bugger on the decals but well saved where you could. Happy memories!

Heck, you had a right old time of it with these two, but got there in the end, I wonder if spraying the decals with lacquer the day before applying them would help to make them a bit stronger, I know you can’t tell how they are going to be until you start to put them on. Nice double restoration despite the setbacks, very nice detailing as always on the front grills, great job👍 All the best, Nick🐸🐸

There is a third version of the 290. It has an AEC radiator but not the same as the early one. It seems to be fairly rare. It employs a different assembly in that the rear wheel arches are part of the body not the chassis. It seems that, for some strange reason, Dinky changed the basic castings and then changed them back again.

two buses for the price of... two? XD nice colours here. and I also had a struggle with too-thin decals before. the worst crumbled into tiny pieces while sticking to the model like the devil sticks to the innocent soul... the other end were ancient, glass-hard decals from an old Lindberg kit that refused to crumble. but still stick to it. I shall handle that model carefully. :) the green bus looked like it got dipped into a bowl of car paint-without-hardener, or else the big lump inside would already be hard as glass. also, who would repaint the inside of the front and the axle like that? :)

Cheers Lothar, yeah the decals can be so frustrating at times especially with the older model kits ,that Green paint was really thick in places amazing it came apart . All the best Martin

Can you get a different supplier of decals/transfers? As the quality of the ones you are showing us in this video are imo, not really of merchandisable quality ! It's ok to say these things happen but they should not be happening, we pay good money for these products and they are not up to the job! But well done for sticking with it and getting the red bus sorted in the end.
