Good Morning Martin, I love these little Dinky Trucks,I have a number of these including Leyland Comet. What a gorgeous little truck and once again you have transformed this old well played toy into a great truck. Love the paint As you say what the tabs,I pulled one apart a while back and snapped the tabs It then became a wreck in with my good ones.I since replaced this model. They are now becoming expensive on EBay Thanks once again for your video
@martindaredare2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Austin, those tabs can be a pain I have broke a few in the past ,yes this particular casting is getting expensive on ebay ,it took me a while to find this one at a reasonable price,but worth the wait . All the best martin 👍

Love the restro on this one Martin, yes I like you are particular about how to apply decals to models, trains etc…want them to look realistic. This truck was a lot easier than the Mack on your last restoration, Portland truck looks “Sharp”, you take care Martin ole friend see ya.👋😎🚙🚗🚛

Very nice Martin. I haven't been lucky enough to find one of these for restoring. Are you going to make some pallets and cement bags for the back. I found some air dry, modeling clay, in our pound shop (dollar store as we call it on this side of the pond) and made some cement sacks on a pallet for my fork lift truck.
@martindaredare2 жыл бұрын
Cheers my friend, yes iam going to have to make some time to do a few different loads for vehicles hopefully over the long dark winter 😀. All the best martin 👍
@ianhow1002 жыл бұрын
Nice one Martin. Certainly a lot easier to dismantle than that Mack truck. The decals break up that mass of yellow very nicely. Not unlike the Dodge Kew to look at but seems a bigger casting. 2 biggest frustrations I get with decals are they move when you don't want them to & don't when you do. That or it sticks to the tissue & comes straight off
@martindaredare2 жыл бұрын
Cheers Ian yes this one is a lot bigger thay do a dropside version of the same size ,witch I have so look out for that . The decals can be tricky to hold down whilst getting them flat ,it's getting the combination of to little warter or to much .and also the quality of the decals to thin thay break to thick thay go flat . All the best martin 👍
@ianhow1002 жыл бұрын
@@martindaredare thank you for that one. Got some to do on the Sea King. Gonna try the sponge trick
@martindaredare2 жыл бұрын
Cool ,luke warm warter, don't leave in to long , it's best to put decals over a clear coat, you can always put a second clear coat over the top , put enough warter on to place it ,remove some excess warter with a paper towel not all ,then a cotton bud to gently roll or dab the surface until it settles down then gently roll it flat .
@ianhow1002 жыл бұрын
@@martindaredare assuming clear coat is a trade name for lacquer then I will try that thank you. Seen how you apply them on your vids. I always hold them in warm water with tweezers for about a minute or two
@martindaredare2 жыл бұрын
Yes sorry Ian ,top coat lacquer clear coat ,you know what I mean , 😉.

Hi Martin another nice and shiny restore. I've always wondered, why do some diecast cars have grey tyres? I know on real cars in the very old days that tyres were grey but I thought that was in the early late 1800s- early1900s. Maybe on this one it was all the cement dust.😂😂🤣It's that time again putting the Christmas tree up tomorrow, hours of fun untangling the lights. 😖Catch you on the next one mate.👍🏻
@martindaredare2 жыл бұрын
Hi Geoff, I would say the reason for the grey tryes on early dinky toys is more of a eye catching idea for kids , Christmas tree 🎄 already , we don't do ours till later . Now all the kids have gone ,we have a small tree we put up but nowhere near as much as we used to have, all the kids and grand kids come visit over Christmas so that's all good . Have fun with the lights . All the best martin 👍
Hi Martin, you have upset my wife she said or can I not clean the paint off. She does mine nowadays I repair and spray, looking for a nice colour burgundy no not the wine. Got some lined up which burgundy would look good. Any ideas please I have looked but not much around here out in the sticks. Trying to get back to working on them again. Got about 20 plus stripped down to be worked on they got an airing when my youngest grandson took them all out of my cupboard in the conservatory of my workroom hopefully will have the shed back next year. You did a nice job on the Leyland comment we used to see Leyland trucks with no body or back just the chassis we only live about 9 miles away from the old factory now I think it's a housing estate. Same with Foden my mate was surveyor on that demolition job took me over to see the area😭 so sad. But still you have that magic touch. Hope Mrs D is well take care all the best Rob.
@martindaredare2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, it's great your wife getting involved, my wife is my quality control expert and because iam suffer from shade blindness she helps pick the shade of colours if iam struggling. It's a shame we don't live closer, I could come help you . Sadly a lot of the old manufacturers are gone and now have car parks or housing estates on them ,one of are oldest scrap yards in the next village has now been sold and its going to be built on . As for the colour maybe try the hycote range of paints , I thick you can get them on line if you haven't got a shop near you ,I have used a deep maroon its apparently very similar, or halfords shop . It sounds like you have plenty to go at my friend, look after yourself and take it easy all the best martin 👍

@@martindaredare Thank you Martin, I did use Model paint but found it good on some things but my air brush was not the best as tried it air pressure to great blew the end off, but found with spray cans easy I did take note of all your rattle cans, yes used Hycote paint black, bought a cream spray paint should have read all the info as sprayed red on the bottom the cross over went cracking wish it had been cracking finish but still learning. But thank you for your quick reply. All the best to you and quality control manager. Rob and crew.

Martin I want advice I have Dinky toy 4 wheel farm trailer how to remove pivot tow bar
@martindaredare3 ай бұрын
Hi ,the best thing to do if you have to take it off ,is to drill out the rivit from the top ,separate the 2 ,then drill and tap ,a thread in the bottom swivel pin ,and that way you can screw it back together, or if it's just for painting, leave it attached and mask off the area's you don't want paint on . I hope this helps ,all the best Martin
