It’s like Fred Willard in Best in Show. Once his commentator character is introduced, he completely steals the show throughout the entirety of the dog show. I’m sure his performance in that was the reason why, when I saw A Mighty Wind in the theater, the audience erupted into cheers when Fred first appeared onscreen.

So, the original title of this movie was Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, the subtitle kinda fell away after a bit. But the reason for that was because originally, Average Joe's was supposed to lose. The Double-Fault/Sudden Death scene was added after the original ending where Globogym wins. It didn't do well with test audiences, so they added a happy ending. That's why in the credits, Ben Stiller's character comments about people loving happy endings and stuff. It's definitely a happier ending but they originally thought them losing would be a 'True Underdog Story' because the underdog doesn't really win IRL most of the time.

If you love the Ben Stiller/Christine Taylor dynamic in this you'll also probably like Zoolander which also has a lot cameos. Ben also acts along side his dad Jerry in a number of scenes and his mother has a small cameo too. It's just a fun turn off your brain and laugh comedy. With so many great actors in this (Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor, Vince Vaughn, Justin Long, Gary Cole, Stephen Root, etc) I could go on forever so I'll spare you. But the person I think stole the show in this is Jason Bateman. Never seen him so funny. I'm shocked!

"Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and... Dodge.” Yeah, not my absolute favorite comedy of all time, but there are a LOT of great gags and lines in this one. Stephen Root has been an underrated and underappreciated gem for decades. NOTE: Minor detail. Christine Taylor (Kate) has been married to Ben Stiller since 2000 IRL. They separated for awhile, but I heard they got back together recently, which brought a big ol' smile to my face. There aren't enough happy endings when it comes to marriages in Hollywood.

Jen a great comedy you should check out is a movie called Best In Show from the year 2000 it has plenty of laughs and dogs I watched it a few times and loved it. Other comedies I recommend are both Ace Ventura movies Meet the Parents and Dumb and Dumber.

I used to own the DVD. In the extras were extra dances by the Dodgeball Dancers ("That's some good clean family fun right there, eh Knight?". The director introduced it by saying "I know why you're here. Let's just leave it at that, shall we?". Yeah.... it was VERY like that. The dance they do in the movie: tame. Comparatively.
