There were three instances of Walt obtaining a set of keys from a place above himself, each time preceding him killing a character. - The key to the bike lock trapping Krazy-8 is kept on top of a cabinet. Krazy-8 dies shortly after. - The key to Mike's to-go bag is kept on top of a beam in the airport parking lot. Mike dies shortly after. - The key(under the visor) to the car Walt steals in the beginning. Walt dies later. Only this time, instead of reaching for the key, he makes it fall into his hand, controlling his fate. Also, in the final shot as the camera moves up, there's a blue strip of floor near Walt, and it could represent a finish line. Whether Walt crossed, or just missed it, is up for us to decide.

25:17 this scene is an exact parallel to Hank's death. When he shot Hank, he cut him off while he spoke. So Walt killed him the exact same way, cut him off while he was talking. Lydia is such a creature of habit, Walt knew what coffee shop she would be at, on what day, and at what time. So he got there first and made sure the Ricin/Stevia was the only Stevia packet at that table. She HAS TO use Stevia, and if there's only one packet, she'll have to use THAT Stevia. It's easy to miss that there was only one packet early in the scene because we don't know what we're seeing yet, so they made sure she tells the waiter "we need more Stevia" to drive the point home at the end.
@SpackleMcCrackle5 күн бұрын
I think Walt’s coughing fit at Lydia’s cafe table is far less relevant to her fate than the fact that Walt got there first and there was only a single stevia packet at her regular table.

Ugh, the character arc is so delicious...I just can't get enough of Walter White. I get it. There are weirdos out there that like idolize Heisenberg. I don't understand it. But I do understand the popularity of the character. For most of us, it's just an amazing ride to get on and we enjoy seeing just how Bad we can Break. For me, I'm out at Jane. I can justify everything up to that point as self-defense/preservation. Still, I imagine some of those things would be a hit on the soul. But I feel like Jane is the point of no return. You can root for an evil bastard. The Joker is cool despite being terrible. And so is Walter White. You can acknowledge that he is terrible while also hoping that he takes his ass out of the line of fire one last time with his intelligence and audacity. Anyone who actually likes him, not just the character and the way he develops, is an idiot. Sure, at first he's that spunky underdog who rebels against his domineering wife and aweful boss, but that slips very quickly and all that's left should be interest in how he'S coming out on top or how far anyone else is supporting him. After all, he is channeling the same thing whether he threatens Tuco or threatens his wife, he just does it against innocent people now. It's a measure of degree. That's the point. The difference of a nasty teacher (or even a good teacher) and a drug lord is a bunch of bad decisions.

I think the biggest takeaways from the final episodes is that Walt really did value his family more than anything else. But his huge ego/need for validation made him reckless and they all ended up paying the price Edit: Yes, the finale made it clear that Walter did this all mostly for his ego. But that doesn't mean that he valued his ego more than his family - he knew that there was a possibility that his family would get hurt, but he didn't actually think it would happen, especially after he had killed Gus. When the choice came between Hank's life and all the money he had made, he was willing to give up the money with no hesitation. That was the point that established the heirachy of Walt's values.

The theater was packed and when Jesse killed Todd everyone lost their minds. Are you guys going straight to Better Call Saul or doing El Camino first? Edit: nvm, they answered the question literally like 30 seconds after I asked it lol.

This entire series can be summed up by a single conflict between Walter White, the caring and loving husband and father, and Heisenberg, the callous amoral drug dealer and murderer. Finally, in this episode, we see the merging of both entities into a single purpose: the salvation of his family and loved ones and the destruction of the people who threatened them. Heisenberg is still there, but now he's on a leash. There's a reason Vince Gilligan et al. deserve every single accolade accorded them.

I think Walt was fully intending to kill Jesse because of his ego right up until he saw that Jesse was enslaved. The “angry tackle” was Walt ultimately deciding to spare him.
@epicfan15984 күн бұрын
yeah his plan was to kill jesse as well as himself until he saw what the nazi's did to him

33:30 That's why Walt pointed out that she always goes to the same place, same table, same time. She's very routine oriented, so he knew that's where she would be sitting.

So satisfying when Walt kills Jack the same way Jack killed Hank. And how he blends into the background in almost every shot he's in similar but differently to how he was portrayed in the pilot episode.

They didn't want Brian Cranston for Breaking Bad because of his past on Malcolm in the middle. According to The Hollywood Reporter, executives had trouble believing that a former comedy star could lead their new major drama. “We all still had the image of Bryan shaving his body in ‘Malcolm in the Middle.”. We thought, ‘Are you serious? Is there Anybody Else? ‘,” said a former executive. It really wasn’t until creator Vince Gilligan himself, who was determined to cast Cranston as the star of his show, urged executives to watch the episode of “X-File” featuring Cranston that they began to become convinced. In the episode in question, Cranston plays a man who suffers radiation exposure, allowing him to show his range of acting. “That was a difficult role to choose in ‘File X’,” said Gilligan (who worked as a writer, producer and occasional director on the show years before “Breaking Bad”). “We needed someone who could be dramatic and terrifying but had an underlying humanity so that when he died, he would feel sorry for him. Bryan got it done.” It was through that episode that executives convinced themselves to choose Cranston as Walter White. Taken from FB

Also, Gilligan explains you perfectly how he's gonna kill them half the episode in, yet it is still jaw-dropping.

Best possible ending. Walt took care of his family financially, killed the bad guys, and enabled Jesse to go free. Skyler, Walt Jr. and Marie have to live with heartbreak though.

Better Call Saul did such a great job telling a different story but also going back to this story and giving everyone else their ending

Final comment: What you said about Walter and emotional manipulation was totally true. The only guy he went against and found it difficult to deal with was Gus, just because Gus had no emotion, no reaction whatsoever. He was unpredictable and Walt was desperate. Only when he found out about the beef with the Salamancas, did Walt uncover Gus' emotional gap. His dead partner to Hector. His only vulnerability. The series has so many details about how Walt deals with every nemesis he has.

I really did look forward to this every week. It was fun watching others see such a great show for the first time. I'm looking forward to El Camino and BCS!
Can we take a monent to appreciate just how perfect the song at the end fit the entirety of the show?

Walter protecting Jesse like that was actually foreshadowed in Season 2; when Tuco took them hostage Mythbusters did an analysis on Walter’s deadly contraption in the trunk, guest starring Vince Gilligan! You’ll love this. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmfXkH6GbN5rd9E&pp=ygUkbXl0aGJ1c3RlcnMgYnJlYWtpbmcgYmFkIG1hY2hpbmUgZ3Vu Walter didn’t want his money back. He wanted Hank back.

That's why there was only one Stevia packet there lol what was there early and took all the packets out of that table and left just the one that he had already contaminated with and sealed back up he knew exactly what table she always sits at and watched to make sure no one took it

This is a great end to the series and wraps up the story nicely. I didn’t think they needed a follow up movie but El Camino was excellent and gave an ending to the Jesse storyline

'Felina' is the name of the song Walt is humming while he's assembling the machine gun rig. "Felina' is also three elements linked together. Fe (iron,) Li (lithium) and Na (sodium.)
@chrisadraheim4 күн бұрын
Nitpicking here, but Felina is the woman he's singing about in the song, the actual name of the song is El Paso.

"What if she sat at a different table?" That's the thing about Lydia-she’s so meticulous and predictable. She always sits at the same table, in the same seat, orders a hot drink, and adds stevia to it. Walt knew she’d follow her usual routine. This is also how he knew where and when to run into her.

25:32 - Walt shot Jack in the middle of his sentence, exactly the same way Jack shot Hank in the middle of his sentence. This show is a collection of brilliant little nuances.
