Pulp Fiction is a 1994 American black comedy crime film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, who conceived it with Roger Avary.[4] Starring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman, it tells several stories of criminal Los Angeles. The title refers to the pulp magazines and hardboiled crime novels popular during the mid-20th century, known for their graphic violence and punchy dialogue.

After the movie's iconic dance scene, you see Vincent Vega and Mia Wallace walk into her house holding a trophy. The audience assumes they won the contest, but later in the film, a barely audible radio broadcast states the trophy had been stolen - meaning Vince and Mia lost the competition then stole the trophy!

Tarantino also says that there is a deleted scene that didn't make it in to the final cut that also supports the notion that they stole the trophy after losing the competition.

This is not true, it's a ridiculous fan theory which is completely ridiculous, and if it were part of the story, it would be terrible movie-making and terrible screenwriting. They won the trophy, and the ad in the alley simply says 'Special at Jack Rabbit Slims, (something or other) is (such and so price)...", it's just an ad.

One of my favorite parts of the movie is the fact that the manager of the coffee shop gets cut off while talking to Tim Roth's character and only manages to say, I'm just a coffee shop..." and then in the credits, he's listed as "Coffee Shop".

He does actually say "manager" after a pause; it's just obscured by the other dialogue. Also, the coffee shop customer Tim Roth calls "long-haired yuppie scum" is producer Roger Avary.

One of my favorite things about this movie is how nearly every plot point is driven by someone making a colossal blunder. Mia mistaking the cocaine for heroin, Vincent shooting Marvin in the face, Fabian forgetting Butch's watch, etc. Also, there's a fantastic understated cause and effect throughout the movie - why did Mia make that mistake? Because the drug dealer was out of balloons, which is usually what heroin is sold in. Why didn't Vincent hear Butch making his Pop-Tarts? Because Vincent thought it was Marcellus returning with the coffee and donuts. Why was Marcellus staking out the apartment with Vincent? Because Jules quit the life after the events of the previous morning. There are other examples that slip my mind right this second, but they're all throughout the movie, even though little to no attention is called to them.

FYI: Marvin was basically their inside man. Before Vincent and Jules enter the apartment building, they make reference to "our guy." Fearing what would happen, Marvin probably called Wallace and told him what apartment Brett was hiding out in.

In an interview shortly after the movie was released, Uma said she was terrified of the dance scene with Travolta because of his talent as a dancer. Travolta purposely toned it down to keep in line with his character Vincent. Uma was relieved. Travolta is legendary in movies as a dancer from "Grease" and "Saturday Night Fever".

Both Uma and Travolta were terrified. Only the night before filming the scene, Tarantino explained to them in detail what he's going for to ease the stress. For Uma, he wanted her to act like one of the dancing cats from "The Aristocats". So it was supposed to be playful instead of technically apt dancing.

The dance contest scene always gets me. Mia is speeding at 120 mph on coke and Vincent is slow grooving to a heroin trip. Travolta and Thurman nailed their parts for that scene.

something i just learned vin the comments, is that they didn't actually win, they stole the trophy. apparently if you pay close attention there's another scene where the radio is on in the background and it's basically like the news, reporting that the trophy was stolen. pretty interesting because all these years i just assumed they won.

Back in 94‘ we used to go to the movies deciding on the fly, and I went into pulp fiction totally stoned without having any clue of what was coming. I‘d say this was probably the most intense movie experience I ever had 😂

And don't forget Star Trek Generations, In The Mouth Of Madness, The Madness of King George, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Nobody's Fool, Crooklyn, Hoop Dreams, Chungking Express, The Last Seduction, Three Colours: Red, Fresh, and Once Were Warriors. I almost forgot The Legend of The Drunken Master, which wasn't released in North America several years later. 1994 was an incredible year for movies. There were so many in the 90's.

14:00 High school dances in the 50s were known as "Sock hops" because they were generally held in the gym and everyone had to take off their shoes to avoid scuffing up the floor. It would make sense for a 50s themed restaurant to follow the same convention for a twist contest.

I love the way QT writes movies. It's the dialog-heaviness that gets me. It's like reading Greek classics where you can tell it's a flow of random conversations the writer has had in their heads by themselves tons of times.

the only prequel I ever truly wanted was that of Jules and Vincent together before his trip to Amsterdam. too bad i never got it. and the only spin off of any Tarantino movies I want is that of Jules walking the earth. I think that's still doable...maybe even crossing it over with the long overdue Kill Bill Vol. 3.

I saw this film opening night in a packed house and the reaction was just amazing. This is a movie that lives and breathes on the big screen with an audience. When Zed says "Bring out the Gimp," I could distinctly recall the audience(and myself) having absolutely _no_ idea what to expect next. Everyone heard it, no one could comprehend it. One thing I read about QT and Samuel L. Jackson's work together, was that Jackson was an actor who doesn't speak Tarantino's words, he _sings_ them. When he quotes Ezekiel to Brad, it's one of the great screen performances as he ratchets up the fear and terror, and when he raises the gun, the audience raises their hands in anticipation of Brad's horrible end. But when he delivers the same speech _sotto voce_ to Ringo in the diner, he uses it not to kill, but to inspire one person to change their path in life. That the same speech is used to bookend the film and goes from terror to epiphany is not only an amazing feat of writing, but an amazing performance by an actor, who truly makes those words resonate.

One great little hint in the Ezekiel 25:17 scene is that when Jules asks Brett if he has read the bible, you notice that Vincent already starts cocking his gun and holding it in front of himself, indicating that he knows Jules is about to unload on Brett. It's a brilliant way of telegraphing to the audience of what's going to happen before it happens.

I always liked to think that Vincent being in the bathroom at the restaurant was his "second chance" if you look at it from Jules point of view. He survived the same crazy miracle that Jules did, and Jules understood that you only get one of those. Next time something like that happened he would be dead. Vincent didnt see it that way, and he walked out of the bathroom into what couldve been a life or death situation, and he walked away alive ignorantly thinking that he could continue his lifestyle. Jules got out of the life and got to see another day. Vincent on the otherhand once again found himself surprised by a man with a gun and his luck had run dry. His own gun at that. Vincent died because of his carelessness and arrogance. Shouldve got out while he had the chance.

Hey Arianna. I hope you notice that every time Vincent has gone to the bathroom (3 times), something bad happens. Plus you caught that he was reading the same book in all the instances. The reason he was always in the bathroom, was from the fact that Vincent gave up Herione after the Mia overdose incident. Heroine makes you constipated. Once Vincent gave it up, he had to go to the bathroom all the time.

Herion addiction also gives you muscle spasms that are hard to notice. So lets assume like a proper cool killer, Vincent had some trigger work done for a smooth trigger pull, it becomes clear Marvin was an accident.

The book is a spy novel "Modesty Blaise". Weirdly, a main character in the novel is a detective Tarrant. Close enough to the name Tarantino. Also a long time host in the UK show "Who wants to be a millionaire?" had this same name.

You don't know how refreshing it is to watch someone actually laugh at the dark humor that Tarantino purposefully injects into all of his films. Most people today...the humor just goes right over their heads as they watch stone-faced. (So much so that when people see dark comedies, they state that "it's tonally all over the place" when in reality, it's just them). What an absolute treat to watch someone enjoy this movie for what it was supposed to be back in 1994. Awesome reaction video!

Everything you had to say showed you understood how this movie became so popular. It was just a spectacular reaction. There's actually evidence of God's Existence in Christianity. First of all there's proof that Jesus of Nazareth existed in history since the writings of Tacitus, Josephus Flavius, Pliny the younger and other historical documents prove that He was living two thousand years ago that even scholars both religious and Atheists agree with historically speaking but not that He's The Divine Son of God because obviously they don't. I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict. How did the organs evolve before there were bones, skin, substance and how did any creatures see before eyes evolved? Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word. Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus. About the conversational script- THIS is the movie that revolutionized movie dialogue and made it feel like actual conversation. No one had ever had two hit men talking about foot massages on the way up to do a job. I'm sure all of us has had a fantastic day hanging out with a friend when the conversation really didn't extend much deeper than gym bags and donuts. Also, really good job picking up on Mia confusing the heroin for coke. Remember back at Lance's where Vince got the dope, Lance was out of balloons and had to sell the H in a baggie. And that was five-dollar milkshake dripping from her mouth when she was OD'ing.

I was pregnant when I first saw this and my brother was flabbergasted when I shared it with him and my sister in law. The humor balances the violence, in my point of view. And yes sister, we have dark humor but that's ok! My youngest daughter is of the same ilk. I taped the soundtrack but left out the swearing in the beginning. It is an amazing soundtrack for true! We would play it during family drives. 😹 Of course, our girls didn't see the movie till much later. I got to say, this is my second time watching you and your reactions mirror mine quite often. When this came out my buddy worked at the theatre and about 10 of us watched from the closed balcony on Saturday night. We had already seen it once, so this time we brought cheeseburgers in so we could eat them with Jules. I'm amazed that you were tracking the various story lines so well. I had lost track of the clothes and the restaurant on my first viewing. It was really exciting to see this in the theatre with a full house. The place was buzzing with how intense and different this was at that time.

Early af in the movie, Marcellus bribes Butch to throw the fight in advance pay, Vincent meets the man who would later kill him, which later happens when Vincent and Marcellus were staking out the apartment to find Butch first. (*Between the Ezekiel scene and Vincent meeting Butch; the part where Marvin gets his head blown off in the back seat is cut and placed later in the movie--but it ofc occurs between those two scenes) Then the movie continues chronologically from Vincent getting heroin from his plug then going to Mia's onward for quite a while--but cutting "The Bonnie Situation" out to stick at the end is genius. Cuz then you won't immediately realize on first viewing that Vincent accidentally blew somebody's head off at only like 8:30 in the morning that day, then does heroin much later that night before going to pick up Mia and everything afterwards snowballing into a shitstorm makes perfect sense--then Fabian forgetting the watch is what got Vincent killed because Butch had to go back, the very same circumstances which led to Marcellus taking it up the butt...and Butch's watch came from inside a butt. So the connection between the watch/bad timing/and butts is ironic there, then the butt/bad timing theme associates to Vincent with the heroin/constipation/bathroom thing...and in a sense Marcellus having Butch in a bad situation, then at the start Jules asking dude if Marcellus looks like a bitch and "Then why do you fuck him like a bitch?" and then it goes on to really actually happen tho and in a sense; Marcellus is indirectly getting fucked by Butch given he gave Butch the money to fold and he then went in the ring and beat the guy to death n ran, then stakeout return, then chase into gimp dungeon, but Marcellus is then saved by Butch.
