What drives me mad is the fact that people have such short memories. Diego was a fucking monster in a time when there was man to man marking and defenders would be told to inflict physical assaults on him. Defenders from that time in serie a have confirmed this. In spite of this, he tore defenders to shreds with his skill and vision. Moreover, something that is often overlooked is the fact that he didnt play with world class players (eith the exception of Careca perhaps). This must make his acheivements even more outstanding. Imagine him in a team with Neymar, Suarez, Iniesta, Xavi, Alves, Busquets etc. with the playing surfaces of today and the protection given to attac king players.......WOW

The first seconds in the clip where it shows Diego warming up in a muddy field in front of a car deserve its very own video. There was a guy who had a very sick kid and needed money for therapy. So he contacted people at Napoli and asked for the team to play a friendly in his hometown and for the profits to go towards his son’s hospital bills. The Napoli president refused because there wasn’t really a football stadium at that city (village?) and was afraid of players worth millions injuring themselves. Maradona would have none of that, he put the team on a bus and everyone went to play despite the club’s refusal to do so. Like I said, that was the warm up before that game, I apologize if I messed up some of the details of that affair.
