Die Hard Fishing

Күн бұрын

Commercial fishing for California Halibut along the California coastline from my kayak. The fishing can be tough this time of year but it can pay off big time for those who put in the time. After several days/hours of trials and tribulations, I was finally able to make it happen and put a huge California Halibut on my kayak. This fish was so greedy it bit both of my live baits I had in the water. How do I know? Check out the video to see my detective work to solve the mystery!

Matching the teeth with the bight marks was genius. Getting to see exactly how that halibut bit the bait was a great thing to learn. Tight lines mate!

You are a LEGEND bro! I have been watching you for about 4 years now. Thanks for always getting me pumped for my own kayak fishing trips up in Humboldt, CA! Thank you for the no BS fishing content! I almost drove down to the sportsman's expo in Sac just to meet you. One day I hopefully will. Can a fisherman be a fan of another fisherman?? You rock bro, never change!

Halibut like that are occasionally caught in Coos Bay by salmon fisherman trolling cut plug herring. Biggest one I've seen was about 45 pounds. Most are 10-20 pounds. They are a pretty rare catch. Think I've only caught 3 or 4 in 20+ years of salmon fishing in Coos Bay. They always ID as California halibut.

It's not a halibut even if it's called a halibut, it is however still a very big specimen so good stuff:) For the haters=it is technicly a regular flounder with the Fluke as it's closest relative. It is NOT considered a halibut...

@@VeryPuzzled-o3q Yes but what you guys CALL a cali hallie is NOT a hallie but a flounder, the nearest relative to the fluke. Do your research...
@VeryPuzzled-o3q
@VeryPuzzled-o3q 4 ай бұрын
@MrKveite1 1. The common name used for identification and regulatory control for the species in question is California halibut. 2. All Pacific and Atlantic halibut are flounders as are California halibut 3. California halibut are not in the same genus as Pacific halibut. 4. in SoCal we use the halibut as local vernacular as Pacific halibut are not typically in our range. If seems strange that you would use local vernacular for summer flounder to correct us for our species identification. Just to save you time in the future, white Sea bass is not a seabass, Lingcod are not cod. Oh, and wolf fish are not wolves.
@MrKveite1

@@VeryPuzzled-o3q My point is that cali hallie is NOT in the undergroup for halibut...its a common flounder.
