I had two Olds diesels. 1981 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, same gold color (with the factory CB radio!), and a 1984 Olds 98 regency, many, many years ago. I loved them both. I'm a diesel nut, so I automatically love that sound. I'm glad that people are preserving them. There aren't that many left. My dream car would be a 1984 Olds 2-door Cutlass diesel. My late aunt had one. I loved it. Good-looking car too. I've been driving Mercedes diesels for the past 27 years. Much more reliable and dependable, but I still miss the clatter of that Olds diesel.

Virtually all of the GM diesel cars that are still living are in Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, etc. flat farm land and farm diesel fuel back in the day....

Theyre famous for being the most awful engines in GM history. I have an 81 eldorado diesel with a gas engine swap from the dealership. I DO want to learn from those who have been able to make the diesel reliable as it was intended because they sound amazing and this one shows proof of that being possible. Beautiful cars all around.

I know someone whose father owned not one but two Cadillac Eldorado diesels, and both cars blew me away when I rode in them. I expected to be able to hear it from inside, but couldn't. How amazing is that?? It wasn't said in so many words, but if I understand right one of them had even gone over 200k already.

Still a nice looking 40 year old Coupe. Who knows what the original owner went through with the 5.7 diesel, but in the end, it still runs with 175k on the clock. Someone got the good out of it and it's still going.

I bought a new 1980 Olds Custom Cruiser 9 passenger wagon with the diesel engine. Olds changed a lot on that engine for 1981 cars and dropped it for 1985 cars. I bet your engine has had quite a bit of work done to it to get it to this point. It even might have been replaced by a goodwrench engine?? My local Olds dealer wouldn't help with engine problems, so I replaced my engine at about 66,000 or so miles with a gas 350 and 350 A/T from a mechanic. Loved that car. You could put in a decent gas engine/trans combo and have a real sleeper.

I am going to look at an '80 Eldorado with this engine tomorrow. I've always wanted one, absolutely love the way they sound. Could you do an 0-60 video? I test drove and oldsmobile with this engine a couple weeks ago with this engine and it just seemed way too slow, plus it idled rough. I'm no stranger to old diesel cars (I made videos of several of them) , but I am not sure how one of these is supposed to perform/

Awesome! Missing the diesel emblems on the fenders. :p. I don't see the radio antenna wires in the windshield. Maybe everything is in the power antenna?

I don't think 81 had Diesel emblems on the fender, at least I haven't seen one that did but know 82 did. The radio antenna is in the windshield. Power antenna is just for CB

How did this get to 170,000 miles? I thought the Oldsmobile Diesel engine was junk.
@kylescarfarm2 жыл бұрын
A lot of people think that who don't know the whole story. GM made many improvements over time. 1981s came with the new "DX" block which was the single biggest improvement. Good care & a few other improvements make the engine quite reliable. This one was also well maintained by a long term owner.

@@mikefrech1123 Typical ignorant attitude toward them, the 1981 onward were a very good revised engine. There's just way to many people that hate diesels but all you food & goods is delivered by diesel 😂
@mikefrech1123 Жыл бұрын
@@pachy444 I don't hate diesels. In fact I have a Dodge Cummins pickup truck. It's the best truck I ever had. The fact remains that the Oldsmobile diesel wasn't a very good engine. I have replaced several of them with various gasoline engines, including a 250 Chevrolet six, which actually had more power. Do you have, or have you ever had a car with the Olds diesel?

That's a very nice color combination there's an 82 model where a guy tells about all the modifications he did to his to make it stay reliable special fuel pump ARP head bolts there's certain mods that can be done so the motor will never blow up is the 1982 diesel Coupe DeVille I remember our young guy and he had it all these mods done. Stuff they figured out later on it should have been done in the beginning days.
