Diesel operations for Metro-North Railroad are pretty simple on their 3 East of Hudson lines: Trains outbound from Grand Central (Northbound) have the diesel unit leading and "pulling" the consist. On trains heading inbound to GCT, (southbound) the cab car leads and the diesel unit is trailing or "pushing" the consist. That's what makes this event so rare. On July 10, 2024, train 1831 needed to be turned around in Danbury yard and face the "wrong" way due to mechanical failure in the cab car. This event only occurs under these circumstances, which have only been documented a handful of times. Although it's not necessarily exciting, this video is more for its rarity than anything else.
