Howdy ya'll !
Jim once again , today its the much missed diesel filter on the change agenda, its not a bad job to do so lets crack on shall we??

So these cars don’t have in tank fuel pump or lift pump?

I used a tube and sucked it through from the outlet. Ps try not to swallow diesel..

I presume when bleeding the filter, the hand pump is on the output side? Are you just pumping the diesel out into an empty bottle then pouring that back into the tank? What about the air in the pipe that you take off?

Hi there, the hand pump is on the output side yes, and you can either attach it to the pipe also and just pump the diesel straight through the filter and back down the pipe or just waste the small amount of diesel and pump it out, you dont have to worry about the air getting into the removed pipe as if any it would be a small amount and aslong as you hold the revvs around 2500rpm for a couple of seconds after starting it will just push straight through the system. @@ALLTHINGSJIM Thanks for posting. I'd loose little by priming. Once I get the filter cap back on, I'll fill the filter through the inlet spout with diesel and let it stand for 10 minutes for the air to raise. Priming though then should be quick and easy with a hand pump.

Got it done on Saturday. Only bother was the rubber bush dropped off the bottom and couldn't find it but the filter cap bolts have got a good grip so secure enough. Primed through easy enough. cheers!

Music too loud for commentary, no need for the music, having to constantly turn volume up n down. Other than that it's very informative n very useful

Cranking good video, well done! Regarding bleeding, how about filling the filter with diesel through the spout before refitting? Is that possible? I have 2013 Fiesta 1.5TDCi 55kw to do.

Have looked at this again. If you bung the bottom hole, you can surely fill up with diesel, then fit the plastic cap, lock the plastic rod in place to seal the diesel in - then the filter is primed?

Thanks for commenting! You can fill with fresh diesel if you wanted to beforehand but you still have to bleed it im afraid as you cant get all the air out, and as soon as the injectors stuck through the air in the system it would cut out and be a pig to start again. This way avoids that and makes life easier and less stressful 👍👍👍

.... and for those of us who don't have a bleeder pipe tool, what are the options? Does switching on the ignition and letting the pump push diesel through the pipe before reconnecting it do the job?

@@johndee540 no unfortunately not, its a mechanical pump not electric, youll have to buy one im afraid, a manual pump primer should cost no more than £10, if you have a hydraulic brake bleeder however you can use that to suck it through

So its the injector feed pipe spout you connect the bleeder to and draw diesel up through the filter. What about air in the injector feed pipe itself? There's a £3 bulb type primer pump on ebay so I can get that and use some garden hose pipe.

What's the size of the hose on the bulb primer pump 6,8,10mm..

I cant say for sure as im not at work currently but id guess its a 10mm, standard airline hose works a treat

What size pipe is it on the outlet spout?

Im not sure, mabie 10mm, its the same size as air hose pipe if thats any help 👍

I do it from the outlet, to try and minimize the amount of air pumped around the system 👍

What do you flush the primer pump with to clean the diesel out after use?

I dont, i squirt it out the pump then hang it and let it drip until dry

With that bulb type primer you use, are you attaching it to the outlet spout and sucking air, then fuel out of the filter into a bottle?

Yep👍 once the fuel comes through you can attach it in line and give it a few pumps to help push air through and out the system the other way too if you wish

@@ALLTHINGSJIM Thanks for the reply comment. There's going to be some ingress of air when the outlet pipe is reconnected, that's unavoidable. Just need to rev a bit to keep the engine going while the air clears.

So to prime it all you do is squeeze the hand pump? Is there not a bleed screw too?

Nope no bleed screw, just pump the hand pump until it pushes enough fuel around the system or goes hard then start and rev at around 2500 revvs for around ten seconds and job done 👍

Cool, also my rail pressure is 8 bar, still not starting and i replaced injector too. Is 8 bar too low when its cranking?

@@samb59 Yeah 8 bar is really low I believe the cranking pressure needs to be something ridiculous like 300 bar as its a high pressure system. But having an air lock in the system will cause low pressure and none start, prime the fuel pump with your hand pump through the fuel return as shown until it goes hard then put the pipe back on and hold accelerator halfway down keep it there even after fire up keep it around 2500 revvs for about 15 seconds or it will just cut out again until airs worked out the system. Have you programmed in the new injector, If not im pretty sure it wont start either. Hope that helps 👍

According to the snap on modis scanner these injectors dont need programming to the veh. It doesn’t have the option to carry out such a task. Unlike newer fords 2012 onwards for example
