I purchased the second one the 5K. I have run this unit for the last three years to warm my greenhouse on cold nights around two to three months a year. The fuel pump that came with the unit failed after a few months. It is very easy to replace. On full hot; it will burn a tank in 12hrs about 1.5 gallons. The lower you run it, the less fuel it consumes, but it also is less dependable to stay running. Heats a 10x12x8 greenhouse when the temp is 25 degrees F to around 80 F. Nice and toasty.

I built my own and fabricated it up into a Harbor Frieght case. It works perfectly as well. I ran into some of the same issues you did with Bluetti but I found a amp controller that I can now plug into the Bluetti power and that actually works to power it up off the Bluetti. I even added extra fans in my case to combat overheating using 12 volt PC fans. Works like a champ. Let me know if your interested in learning more I have photos and such of my build. First time doing one and it turned out great.

I installed a Chinese Diesel heater in my 6x12 cargo trailer conversion... I spent all my effort making sure I properly exhausted the unit through my 1 inch insulated wall using a thru-hull stainless outlet as well as using high-temp RTV around my exhaust hose with high quality hose clamps, and thought everything was great.. I now know that I need to also properly setup a thru-hull port for the combustion intake (away from the exhaust). These devices are primitive.. don't trust that the exhaust flow will happen in one direction with 100% certainty... and don't expect your Home Depot CO detector to save you either.. I've smelled the funky smell, and let it go... and it made me pretty sick.. Don't ignore it... do it right. ...also, if you drop the diesel pump frequency, the exhaust-to-intake leak is even worse... Treat the combustion intake just as important as the exhaust itself.

Matt, in regards to the leaking fuel from the vent on the lid. At first after seeing your tape fix, I thought of attaching a short, 3 to 4” , fuel line over the vent hole.. so sloshing f it el would only escape to essentially a smal tubular reservoir where it could drain back in. But then went searching on Amazon and found fuel caps that look to be more or less the same lid without a vent. About $8. My heater is supposed be delivered today. I will measure the diameter after receiving it. If the measurements are the same, I’ll order one for when traveling. I can’t add a photo on here. This could be a good discovery.
@fathergratwick11 ай бұрын
From what Ive been told the intake filter is not a actually a filter, its a restrictor to balance the flow with the muffler if you run one without the other you are much more likely to get overheating errors. the same is true if you lengthen the exhaust hose.

The startup surge can be up to 160W. That can exceed the amperage of 12V 12A circuit. The power banks may have 10A or 12A limits on the 12V plug. The solution is to use a 120V to 12V converter. The power bank will handle the 160'ish Watts on 120V just fine.

I found a 3in gas, hot water heater, aluminum exhaust hose which is more heavy duty than what comes with these and expands from about 3ft to 8ft ish that works perfectly. Also look for hose clams with "wingnut" style screw instead of needing a screwdriver you can just tighten by hand.

Good video but I would like to add a couple of things. The one I bought which is the middle one sivel, or something like that. It's difficult to take apart because it has so many screws. I ended up changing every single hose and adding hose clamps. I did not trust the cheap Chinese hoses so I went out and bought real fuel lines and hose clamps. I do a lot of off-roading and I don't need one of these hoses to vibrate off. Other than that the thing works great And like you said when you shut it off make sure it does its thing before you unplug it. You can technically get away with two fuels depending on what cooking stove you have. Some stoves run on white gas or regualr gas. Usually stoves like msr one burners or Coleman stoves. So if you get a stove that burns regualr gas then you have gas in your car and use the same fuel for cooking then just a small 2 gallon can of diesel ( depending on length of trip ) for diesel heater

The only reason I got the 8kW is, so I have a bit more headroom to propperly burn out the unit.

Not necessarily, now most diesel heaters come with 22ml fuel pumps. The 2kw, 5kw and 8kw. 2kw used to come with 16 or 18ml fuel pumps, but now most come with 22ml. This results in the 2kw being no more fuel efficient, than the 5 or 8kw model. As the ducting outlet connection hole is smaller on the 2kw model, and there are less heat sink fins on the 2kw model, meaning that unit runs hotter. The 2kw just expels more heat through the exhaust, as it is less efficient with poorer heat transfer.
@florihae29 күн бұрын
At least the Vevor Models come as follows: "2kW" 0.26L/h > 2.5kW total power "5kW" 0.52L/h > 5kW "8kW" 0.62L/h > 6kW As you see, only the 2kW actually will deliver 2kW heating power to your tent. (About 20% energy loss through the exhaust is a reasonable asumption) The "5kW" will give you about 4kW The "8kW" about 5kW
@florihae29 күн бұрын

@florihae29 күн бұрын
If you have problems with condensation in the RV, installing the fresh air intake of the burner inside the RV can help with this. I would not do it because of noise. What I did was installing a small bypass that can draw some outside air through the heat exchanger. So the air does not only circulate in your RV, but some gets drawn directly from outside. This will lower your efficiency, but will get rid of any condensation problems. Thanks to the variable bypass valve, you can adjust it acording to outside conditions

@OzarkOverlandAdventures11 ай бұрын
I know they can run on Kerosene.
@twestgard210 ай бұрын
There’s a whole series of videos on KZbin about using alternative fuels and custom mixes. The TLDR that I took away from them is that there’s a high likelihood of damaging your heater because it’s not engineered for those fuels. Specifically carbon buildup in the burner that eventually blocks it. There are much better options for burning the alternative fuels. Meanwhile, these heaters sip fuel so slowly that you’re not saving that much money, so just stick with diesel and kerosene.
@Billy-cs4cc10 ай бұрын
@@twestgard2 I'm thinking in terms of the environment. Thanks.
@twestgard210 ай бұрын
@@Billy-cs4cc Ah! I haven’t seen anyone address that specifically but there are some clues in the videos. The alternative fuels don’t burn completely, which means they’re dumping partially combusted, carcinogenic soot into the air. Also there’s the ecological cost of ruining a heater. And modern farming practices use more diesel to make plant oils than if we just burned the diesel to begin with; it’s a net loss. Obviously burning nothing would help with carbon outputs but also obviously people need heat somehow. So I end up at the same conclusion, for these heaters IMO it’s diesel or kerosene only, and for things like waste cooking oil or waste engine oil, if you’re going to burn those at all, they need to be in a different style of heater that guarantees total combustion. Check out pyrolysis videos for more about that.

I don't own a diesel heater ( hence watching reviews) but I think you may have missed the difference between a 5 and 8 watt heater. You judged them by operating temps alone, but my guess is those are the same across the board for safety and efficiency. Where the difference lies is in the amount of air they move across the element while maintaining that temp. Higher watt heaters move more air at the temp thereby increasing performance.

It’s better to buy two 2 kw ones than one 5/8 one, as diesel heaters work better if burning at a higher temperature, it the 5/8 kw heaters are set on a low setting, they soot up, then have problems starting, this is not ideal on a frosty morning.
@florihae29 күн бұрын
Yes....BUT you have to get a REAL 2kW unit. Many are sold as 2kW, but are the same unit as every other 5 or 8kW. Only difference is that the fuel pump will be limited to less fuel delivery. With those you have no advantage of the small units anymore. For that reason I bought the 8kW, so I know I can properly burn out the unit. A propper designed 2kW is usually always the best option for small campers or Tents, absolutely agree!
@howardosborne864711 ай бұрын
The 8kw heat from the exchanger to air is totally false but it would be interesting to know what the true combined heat output of the whole unit is if the exhaust output is also included......there is a lot of heat goes out via the burner exhaust. My guess is that the total output from exhaust and heat exchanger combined may well be in the 5kw ball park.

Therefore the total heat energy it produces is 0.62L/h × 9.8kWh/L = 6kW power Assuming 1kW goes into the exhaust give us exactly 5kW, which is what all those units actually are. Never saw a true 8kW unit.

Can you have it in the camper and have the exhaust going outside and run it inside with your power pack.

I really appreciate your videos. One thing is lacking, dimensions! Am I the only one who has limited space in and on my vehicle? And I don’t trust the sizes listed on Amazon, especially when you can’t return the item.

There is a new company Velit Camping that has this style of heater that runs on gasoline!

You mentioned some do not like some12V power supplies. Is this simply a matter of sufficient voltage and current?

My biggest con is the ticking. I have two in my conqueror 490. And that ticking takes a while to get used to or ignore.

Thanks for the video. Have you or anyone had the experience of the diesel heater air in your tent leaving a weird taste in your mouth or throat? I’ve used mine about 5 different times and it has happed every single time.

Dude, get a carbon monoxide monitor NOW! THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN

@@florihae That's the thing, I've had a monitor since day one, so its not Carbon Monoxide and yes I have tested the monitor to make sure its working properly. I've stopped using this model and will try a different heater.

Just a question here I was wondering if you can take the control off the vevor with the high altitude and just install the control on your other one and would that work

This might be a dumb question but can you use a generator? To run the heater and how hot dose the hose get going into the tent?
@OzarkOverlandAdventuresАй бұрын
They run off DC power not AC. If your generator has DC output then yes.
@florihae29 күн бұрын
You can also use a 12V power supply that can deliver at least 160W or more. Just be aware, if the generator runs out of fuel or the PSU breaks your heater might die as well. If you want to be extra save, you can get a small 12V Lithium Ion battery (5Ah or more) and charge it with generator. So if the generator runs out, you still have a long buffer to run the full cooldown cycle. If you up the battery size (I have a 20Ah) you can run the heater the whole night from it and charge the batter whenever you turn on the generator anyway.

The small 2Kw heater - can it be mounted vertically (90 degrees from how you have it on the table)?

I'm not sure. I've never seen one done vertical.

Yes mine has a bad burned rubber smell. I tried changing the gaskets and cleaning the burn chamber but it hasn’t fixed the issue.

This may be a dumb question. I am in MS and new to diesel heaters. I usually don’t camp cold. Is there a version of a “diesel” heater that uses propane as opposed to diesel? If I am already carrying propane to cook (10lbs), it would be good to use it for heat too. I have a roof top tent and don’t want a buddy heater.

Propex makes one.

Propane heaters are notorious for condensation issues.
@howardosborne864711 ай бұрын
You get very high humidity produced with direct heat propane heaters which will make clothes and fabrics feel damp and if used inside a caravan will cause streams of condensation on the windows. Also there is a need to have sufficient ventilation and a Carbon monoxide sensor/alarm with direct propane heaters to use safely. The diesel heaters are heating air via a heat exchanger so no issues with fumes,Carbon Monoxide or condensation.
