In my last diesel heater review video, I mentioned that the SS2 was the king of affordable type diesel heaters, and as it has proven to be a really great heat source. Hcalory has Since challenged that not only is this heater the ONE but all of their line of heaters are. So In today’s video I’m going to be comparing this heater that I really love with this other heater offered by hcalory and at the end of the video I’ll give you my thoughts. Are the main differences improved? Why is one cheaper than the other? What heater would you choose? Let’s find out! Thanks for watching 🍻
Hcalory sent me this heater to review for my viewers. I will receive a small commission if a heater is purchased through my links. ATEM OFFROAD appreciates any type of support and I do my best to find the best affordable offroad gear. My reviews are always honest and I will always let you know if its worth it or not.

One thing that no one is mentioning is the burn off. Before you install this in anything fire it up and let it run on high heat for 1 full tank. I didn't do that and the fumes ran me out of my boat. These are great heaters for the money. I used mine last week on a lake in Canada and we all took our jackets off inside the cabin.

I highly doubt if the 8KW is an actually 8KW and more than likely just a 5KW heater relabled. In my research on these types of heaters, I find many of them are just the 5KW heaters relabled as an 8KW to sell them for more. Do the research! I found many videos showing the difference (or lack of) between the so called 8KW heaters and the standard 5KW heaters and it appears there is none. Just get a 5KW heater and save yourself some $$! Another thing...that is not an air filter that goes on the end of the air tube. It's just a muffler, that's why the end is wide open! That's why you should do your research. Put an air filter on the end of that hose to keep contaminants from getting to the glow plug, atomizer screen and keep the burn chamber clean.

An Aussie engineer "John McK 47", recommends the 5 kw over the 2kw. The electrical consumption of 2kw is the same as 5kw for the board, fan and pump; but since the 5kw runs half the time, it uses half the battery. I call his channel "the unofficial service and maintenance guide". It's the only channel which breaks down and covers EVERYTHING, including recommended replacement parts. For hos comparison among 2, 5 & 8kw, see video: "Chinese Diesel Air Heaters no 18. Motorhome Install part one." 4:23 (Power availability)

I have a so-called 8kw. Cost was much the same as 5kw so I thought why not. I suspect it’s 5kw at 12 volts and a bit more at 13.5 volts because the fans spin faster. Efficiency will fall but could be handy in very cold conditions.

I’m curious to your power source? I have one of these and had to run it off of a deep cycle marine battery because my 1000w jackery only allows 9amps max. Just takes a lot of amperage to get the glow plug hot. Once it’s running it doesn’t take much at all.

Ran into that same problem also with Bluetti. But fortunately there is also a 12v 30amp plug on them also. That I just ordered the particular plug for to make up a plug for it. The regular 12v 10amp couldn’t do it. Before that I even purchased a 12v power brick. That should have I can’t remember but it was supposed to be above 10amps more than enough that I spent like $115 for. That for some reason didn’t work either and got pissed. An threw out the heater and the power brick. So since the cool is coming back around. I figured ild give it one more shot. The only issue i deal with this diesel heater is that my 12v output can't handle the ignition. I have an ecoflow river 2 pro and overload protection hits during the ignition. @@ATEMOFFROAD I forgot to mention that I use a 220 to 12v converter for the ignition and the rest of the night, but maybe this is the reason why the EcoFlow can’t handle the night. So am I correct, if you place the unit outside a room you want to heat and use the duct to pipe warm air into the room, the thermostat will not work as it is attached to the unit which would not be inside the room. This needs to be rethought. The temp of the room requires a thermostat inside the room. Otherwise the exhaust would be inside the room too if you had to place the unit in the room to be heated.
@ATEMOFFROAD
@ATEMOFFROAD 28 күн бұрын
@@skippyone3085 that’s correct however, for that reason we extend the controllers cable so the thermostat is in the room OR change the mode to “level mode” where no thermostat is needed. The big problem with the Hcalory heaters is some of them (because it apparently varies) use too much power on startup to use with a portable power bank. My brother just rolled the dice on one and it tries to pull about 12a before overloading the power station, which is rated at 10a. Another reason not to use a power bank is that it can shut off on you if you turn off your heater during the night, because there is no draw from the battery it automatically shuts down over a specific amount of time when not in use. If your up stairs like I am in a tent, your going back down to the battery to turn it back on to turn your heater on . Makes the wireless part of the heater pointless. IMO. 🍻

Right now that heater is 169 with 40% off 111.0 it’s cheap, at the end of the video I mentioned that I’d rather choose the other heater over this one for many reasons than the external fuel tank. ( I’m not a big fan either). Also this heater may not be appealing to one who overlands but one who is heating up a shop , garage or shed because the ease of connecting your own external fuel cell or it may be appealing to those who want to attach a larger diesel rotopax to the side of it. This heater is turnkey and kicks out a ton of heat, but at the end of the day for my use, tent camping, I’d rather choose the other one
