Diesel Tuning Boxes, Do They Work and How Do They Affect MPG? (Installed on Peugeot 206 1.4HDi)

Fitted an “Italian Box” diesel tuning box to my Peugeot 206 1.4Hdi to turn it into a thoroughbred racecar.
This video shows how to fit it and tests how well it works
How did it change performance and drivability, and was MPG affected?

For as much grief that these little box of chips get u do love em! I had an old mitsubishi l200 with a turbo pinched from a jcb cantilever forklift and bigger injectors. No mapping. just a dubious claiming plastic box from eBay. It worked fine! The body rotted but the motor never blew. Total cost of mods was £45 plus gas for tig welder.

What if you plug another tuning box into the tuning box and get double the "gainz".

I had one of these tuning box things on my astra mk4 1.7cdti 10 years ago and it definitely made it quicker but used a lot more fuel

Yes, that sounds about right. I had one fitted to my old volvo S40d and it made a lot of difference on that. Never gonna be as good as a remap but decent for what it is

ok im giving this a go lol, ive got a 1.4 hdi and ive chucked a bigger turbo on but cant afford to tune it yet

I would expect a 1.4 HDi to easily crack 52mpg without trying. Are you calculating consumption on tank to tank fill ups because I've found low fuel warning lights can be unreliable as to when they come on.

@@TK42138 I do it to the light, but I actually find it to be pretty consistent. Since making this video, the MPG I’m getting has settled and I pretty much always get around 46-47.

When you insure your cars do you have to tick yes to the question have they been modified? If so, how much difference does it make to the quote?

That’s just the pipe from the fuel rail going to the injector. Not sure why that one alone is a bit damp though? 🤔

Its not the size of the box that matters its more a case of how the tool fits.

This will fit and work on a diesel CityBug. There are petrol tuning boxes for them, but they won’t be as effective as this as a naturally aspirated petrol is much harder to get gains from than a turbo diesel

Did you look inside the box ,,, that might have been educational ,, 90% of performing magic is about knowing one more fact than the audience do. But as my grandad used to say ,,, if you ant a horse to work ,,, you have to feed it.

@@StupidBlokeStupidVideos close enough ,,, there was a lot of these that came with a board , a led light and a single resistor to lie to the brain about ambient aair temp ,,, but some really do give spectacular results , even if it looks like youve joined the Red Arrows as you go past , not sure how dpf will hold up , but thats another subject
