Hi Brian, very interesting review especially in these times with fuel costs, personally , got unlucky with DPF issues and sluggish engine performance, is turning me off diesels . Unleaded cheaper now aswell ! Who knows what will happen in future.

Thank you for watching, this is one of the models in particular that really puts it up to a diesel in terms of fuel efficiency🙂✅

My only diesel car gives more mileage for a cheaper fuel price than an petrol in a lower purchase price than a mild hybrid petrol.

I suppose this will vary, what country do you live in? It depends on the price of petrol and diesel in your area 🙂 Thanks for watching

It’s a very useful insight Brian, it’s getting harder and harder each year for us car people 😩. Mad how the petrol prices are fluctuating that much over the course of a few days!

Prior to watching I thought it would be diesel hybrid vs electric hybrid.

Hey thanks for watching .. there are some diesel hybrid like Mercedes, but they are pretty much usually hybrid petrol in our market🙂

Diesel with start stop should be better than a hybrid for city traffic. For road any diesel wins.
@doolanbrian2 ай бұрын
Long run, the diesel is marginally better on Kona but in general long run on most models, the diesel is usually the most efficient at motorway speed, in my opinion, however,l hybrid seems to be more fuel-efficient for short stop start driving as the engine shuts down just like the diesel but it can also do some battery operated driving🙂

Great video. I drive an automatic diesel car and was considering changing it for a phev. Given the extra cash I have to spend, I’m thinking it’s not worth it. Thanks.

How about comparing the running cost. Maintenance cost.. Is it true that new hybrid battery are all expensive
@doolanbrian Жыл бұрын
Good points, so servicing is due every 15,000 km on the hybrid at around €250-€300 but it is due every 30,000 km on the diesel for around €350-€400… The diesel was around 32,000 Euro new and the hybrid was an additional circa €3000, but you have to factor the hybrid. It is also automatic which is usually more expensive. Thank you for watching

Lovely video. Well analysed. I drive a toyota prius phev car in England and I do a 40miles round-trip daily commute to work. My mpg is way higher when I use the b roads than the motorway route to work. However, I still get a better mpg than my wife's diesel car on the same motorway route.

I can’t get my head round why they don’t have two batteries to switch between… When one is charging, the other is in use?!?…

More batteries cost more but ultimately also weigh more !

Diesel for second hand. Hybrid for new.

Hi Brian, I just love my Petrol E-HEV as your fully aware I love my Honda CR-V SR E-HEV and with the warmer weather the old MPG is getting better every time I drive it. I have come to the conclusion I will not be sending the car back as I feel part of a special family with Honda. I will sell a kidney first prior to sending the car back also the family love the car infact they have also fell in love with Honda CR-V as they enjoy the silent driving as we all find the car so relaxing and this helps if your stressed I just go for a drive and when I return home my levels are back to normal what more can I say about a brand like Honda they get A++++++++ from me and I have only ever been a ford man for many years. Not anymore you can feel Honda's DNA in this car as when you just jab the padel from a standstill or in moving traffic it leaves others in its dust and then some the torque low end is fantastic you feel the push into your seat. Lets not do SPORTS mode thats off the scale and boy she lifts her skirt. Anyone whom doubts me please test drive a Honda HEV today. Great video Brian as ever hope the family are safe & well. Kind Regards Alan B..

Hey Alan, thats great to hear ! Thank you as always for watching !:) :) you need to get a job selling Hondas , you'd be awesome at it !!

@@doolanbrian Thanks for your kind words Brian but this is me just being absolutely honest about Honda as a brand and the CR-V is simply the best HEV SUV on the market today and that can’t be disputed in my opinion. Honda lead the rest just follow. Regards Alan B ❤️❤️

Wait... There is a diesel Kona? We never had diesel Konas around here. In the past, 1.6 Turbo Kona was available, but now it's only the 1.0 T-GDI 120hp, the electric versions and the hybrid one. Around 2016 we had diesel i20, with a 1.1 CRDI 75hp manual but that was it. Also, we never had diesel i30 starting 2017.

Yes we had the dsl from around 2018 - 2021 ! Where in Europe are you again Alin ?? :) Thanks for watching !

@@doolanbrian I am from Romania. I know we don't get all the engines and features on Hyundai cars but it's ok. For instance, on the current i30 there is no 1.0 T-gdi available. We get the 1.5 T-gdi 160hp and 1.5 DPI naturally aspirated 110hp only.

@@10mbc Thats a very unusual engine ! we used to get an NA 1.4 100 BHP !, we nevr got 1.5 T GDi :(

@@doolanbrian I owned in the past a base model i30 with 1.4 MPI 100 bhp :) A month ago I just bough an i30 with 1.5 T-GDI 160 bhp and it's just plain awesome. Lots of power and good fuel economy. In Romania there is "Highway" trim level, basically means: 16" alloys, Michelin tires, multilik rear suspension, auto climate, heated front seats and steering wheel, alarm, 8 inch display with wireless Android Auto and other small things. It's a manual + Mild Hybrid 48v sistem. One little know fact: in sport mode, it rev matches on downshifts :)
@10mbc2 жыл бұрын
@@doolanbrian It's just a pity you did not get the 1.5T-GDI as it's almost as fast as the Kia Ceed GT for 10 000euro less and a manual box. Also MUCH more fuel efficient.

That’s right I didn’t feature electric in this video, I was aiming for the customer who is currently not looking for an electric vehicle as Hyundai electric vehicles at the time of the video in ireland were very difficult to get so people didn’t have the option .. Thanks for watching

yeah after 12 hours :D IF you find a free charging spot and IF app is working and IF you don't explode during charging IF you don't get killed by terrible toxic gas such burning EV produces IF you don't have a software error and IF you don't crash because any bump into battery frame is game over for you and 20.000 repair .. That's a one big IF there Mr. 🤡
