Busted on the epic Schindler Haughton Elevators at Town Square Tower St. Paul MN

(August 2018) These are some nice elevators that upon searching KZbin, appear to be modded now. At the end of the video, a security guard asked us what we were doing and I explained. He told me I can't take "photos for free" and I told him I would leave. He insisted we come with him as we can't take "free photos". We left the building and he followed us all through the skyway until we left to a public sidewalk.

Not surprised. I just got busted today at the Walker At Main Garage in Downtown Houston, but it wasn’t that bad thankfully. It’s technically private property, but with public parking. Security was definitely very friendly and things had greatly ended well. Just left after apologizing to him. Based on reading the description of this video, it sure enough didn’t end so well unlike mine did, which is pretty much what the outcome is like afterwards.

These are beautiful elevators and too bad the security guy busted you for filming . At least you explain the situation to the security and you advise what your doing but it sucks that you can’t film those elevators. But at least we can do is be honest, be careful and respectful and then things will go out good. But too bad and sad that you had to leave

Photographing is not a crime but just don’t point out that camera to people and tell them that they are filming elevators and it’s okay to tell them that you have a disability and they will understand. And it’s also okay to tell them that I’m and elevator enthusiast and I have compassionate about elevators and then I’m just filming it has part of my hobby and then things won’t be bad at all

It depends on the state and the crime. Some jurisdictions will only security to detain someone if they have reasonable believe they committed a felony while some can be for anything.

Generally speaking, in the United States, security cannot detain people for just trespassing. They can be as rude as they want and insist that you come with them all they want, but you have no obligation to comply. As you stated, the only requirement is that you vacate the building if requested. Security are private citizens just like the rest of us, therefore have no arresting power. If a security guard does attempt to detain someone, it will open the guard and the company they work for to civil litigation and possibly false imprisonment charges. The best thing to do If confronted by security is to assert that your are leaving and refuse to give any personal information. Also, NEVER delete footage is asked. They have no authority to demand such action. I could be wrong, but I don’t even think police can force you to delete footage without a court order. Remember this if ever confronted by an aggressive security guard.

I wanted to film some elevators one was a Otis series 1 and the other was a ThyssenKrupp but i was too scared too because I seen so many elevator Enthusiasts get banned or busted for photography 😢

St Paul MN has not been nice to any Elevator enthusiasts even some from here in the Metro it is like they don't want anything to do with people filming anywhere in the city just on public sidewalks and parks and during events
