Holy hell. I'm from America where people tune diesel pickups of that size and weight with 5.9 up to 7.3 litre big direct injected diesels, and that's a 3.0L IDI that would smash most of them.

That may be a bit of an exaggeration. Those big diesels can make 1000hp 2000lb/ft. But the 606 would make a sweet swap for a smaller 1/2 ton pickup.

The 5.9 cummins wouldn't be beat by this. No transmission can handle that power without it being detuned to some degree. Love these motors though

As an American who is new to this engine, that sounds absolutely mental. Really like it-at higher rpm it’s like a cross between an RB26 and a Detroit 6-71 (and I mean that in a good way!) and at idle it is it’s own beast!

Holy crap this is amazing. I’m an American who owns a 6.4lr v8 muscle car. I want to build an off-road truck that gets reasonable mileage with 40” tires and 6” lift on it which can also run on homemade biodiesel because freedom. My quest brought me here. This is so amazing it’s almost like it’s a conspiracy. Why are we using big v8s that get half the mileage?

It depends. Mercedes engines nowadays just can't do that. Any car company doesnt make quality products anymore. Om606 was great though.

I can’t speak to all of it but over here in the us we use larger v8 s because they can take a load for a long period of time these small diesels have a hard time staying at 90% load all the time. This is assuming that you are pulling. I have a f-350 that never gets unhooked from a 7k lb gooseneck trailer. That load with lumber or logs or horses or any number of other heavy things I hail would destroy one of those little engines.

I’m out here in the United States. I’m tired of people going with the grain and saying you can’t make a full-size rig fit on a trail anymore so I picked up a 84 bronco and I’m gonna prove them wrong and this is what’s on the list. Om606 , Dana 44 front axle cause it’s already got a 9inch and I’m gonna find a way to make the damn thing fit where I want it to go. This is more than enough power for it even stock. Just do a stock turbo with a manual pump.

I has to wonder what I liked so much about this fellow. And I think he's an American that plays a British guy on TV. Who just happens to own a shop that does what any red blooded man would do if you let him loose around a diesel engine. It just feels like home wherever he lives at. Bit of an old video to comment on, but I was kinda curious. I know those shifts can be firm with an aftermarket controller on the .6. Were you letting off in between shifts to save driveline components?

When you’re towing with an truck like that how are the EGT’s? I’ve started collecting parts to build this (truck and pump so far) but I want to make sure that living in the mountains of Canada I’ll be able to keep the turbo and intake temps down. Cheers and I love the work!

This thing probably has 800-900 foot-lbs of Torque. Not to worry. You're still not getting the point here. This engine will beat any factory V8 in every way and still get 29 Mpg. Not to mention 1 Million miles life span.

Too long for a Hilux. Many have installed the 5 cylinder OM617 in the Hilux, and that barely fits. Now a Landcruiser, that’s something that I would like to see.

I wonder if you could make it quieter and less smoke. Clever engine swap but I've always hated Fords. Swapping it into a Sierra or Silverado would be cool. Best would dropping it into a RAM as Kind of a glove in the face to Dodge and Cummins.

Black 7 Point Tree i am planning to do this swap to a 95 f150 and there is a trans adaptor to use a sbf trans but its pricey. But so is a controller for the benz transmission. I want a ZF5 so im going to use the adapter. If i wanted auto i would take the 5 speed benz for a 2wd and keep the Ford if its a 4x4. The benz trans is solid and smooth, i have one in my e420 and its a solid piece. But to use it in a 4x4 i think.you would need a gwagen tcase which would add a lot of cost, but it would give you a true center lockup... I too would like to know about mounts, i saw a guy adapt 24v cummins mounts on one build in a 97-03 and i think i would like to do that so its overbuilt. Also you need a manual pump from an om603 and if you want any decent performance you need larger elements installed and larger turbo. I want to do a relatively small compound setup for a flat torque curve.

Why would you ever put an om606 in a truck? None of the trucks I’ve seen with them swapped in are not set up for racing. If you were going for towing performance then why wouldn’t you go with a nice heavy Cummins up front? I don’t see any benefit to using an om606 in a truck, please explain.

This is a question that I would like to have answers to as well. These transmissions bolt to so many different engines, it must be about different bell housings. I am guessing that you will need the correct bell housing for the om606.
