No more jiggling balls or noisy lead beads, everything is better with springs on it but will this Deadblow Axe work?

With a normal round wire spring, you want to avoid coil bind where the spring is fully collapsed; the spring will deform and rob some of the energy you are trying to transfer to the axe head. Putting some pockets for the springs to fit in (it would be a shame to hide the springs though), or attaching a spacer/block to the hammer weight so it contacts the axe head just before the springs bind should significantly increase the splitting power, and you could just bolt on the spacer easily.

I will never forget that dreadful day back i the fall of '97.. I knew I should not have been using that big old rusty Axe to chop that hardwood.. How was I ever to know that that Axe head would come loose from the handle and go flying..? How was I to know Wilson was standing 10yards behind me..? How was I to know the Axe head would fly off in his direction and catch him right in the forehead..? How was I to know that sh_t..? I tried to pull it out.. but it was sunk in real deep.. so all I could do is go get some help. It was an accident.. and accidents happen.. RIP Wiilson.. you was a good man.

I love the build. I think you did a great job. However, there's a reason aside from durability and cost that this isn't done. The majority of the mass is in the forward section that first contacts the wood. This forward section in a setup like this is only really supposed to dig into the wood. The rearward section that follows is what is supposed to hammer the blade in. The setup as you have it has the majority of the mass in the forward section, and it is also what is hammering the blade through. There really isn't any advantage to this. Now if you had a small, light forward blade section with a large mass after the springs, then you should be able to get a solid action out of it. I am reminded of some darts I have that have the pointed shaft that is spring mounted. When the dart connects with the board the tip of the dart digs into the board and stops. The rest of the mass of the dart continues travelling forward until the shaft bottoms out, which hammers the tip in farther. These darts work quite well.
