Bro, for real Keto does really break your brain. I did it for a couple years, and you definitely start eating some weird stuff. You can't have anything over 10% of your diet as carbs, so eat 1 slice of bread or a few crackers and you've fucked up your diet for the day, because you won't reach the protein count before you max-out on calories. You're supposed to be eating nothing but protein and fat, thus the weird mayo on an unbunned piece of cheese, or a burger wrapped in a piece of lettuce. Edit: any diet is good, you literally just need to be able to count and you don't need keto to completely change your body-chemistry in order to lose weight.

This demonization of carbs in fitness is infuriating. Can carbs make you gain weight? Yes, when you're not doing anything with that extra fuel, but so can anything. As a cyclist, carbs are my best friend. It's the best way to refuel when you need energy fast. It gets broken down into your blood stream quickly and i usually feel the effects of it after about 5-10 minutes. Its what makes it perfect for endurance activities like cycling. The idea that you need a bunch of protein or fat to lose weight is bullshit. You're body can only breakdown so much protein within a given time (around 1-1.5 hrs) anything beyond that you end up just shitting what doesn't get broken down. If anything higher protein diets are more likely to lead to overeating because you're body takes a lot longer to break down protein than it does carbs so you're more likely to keep eating because you don't feel the effects so you think you still might be hungry.

I have a theory regarding the Everything Bagel Seasoning. I used to suffer from an ED, and I remember that when you cut out certain foods from your diet (like bread in this case), eventually your body starts to crave it, even if you're not conciously aware of it. You kind of seek out foods that trick your brain into thinking you're eating something of that food group. Maybe the people in these videos subconsiously associate the seasoning with the actual bagel (aka the carbs that their bodies actually crave), so coverering everything in that seasoning temporarily scratches that craving and feels really satisfying to eat because their brain thinks they're finally eating some much needed carbs for once.
@kuhntzzz Жыл бұрын
that would actually make a lot of sense- similar to how people on keto diets will try to make low carb “bread”. i feel youre probably right about this theory.
@lavender5624 Жыл бұрын
Yep! I did keto for a while (and got really sick). I didn't use it because we didn't have it at our store, but I would obsessively have cloud bread for the same thing. It's just weird meringue that tastes like nothing, but I would dip it in marinara and convince myself i was eating garlic bread. it sucked. also everything but the bagel has a bit of carbs in it but iirc doesnt list them on the nutritional label because it's a negligible amount per serving, so it's possible these people are eating it and their brains are going "YES THAT HAS CARBS EAT MORE OF THAT"

The peppers with the seasoning and cream cheese actually sounds good. As a snack in between actual meals. I see the appeal of the "everything but the bagel" seasoning, because it has all the seasonings on an "everything" bagel, which do go well together, it's just onion, garlic, poppy seeds and sesame seeds. It's probably far cheaper to make at home rather than getting the fancy brand, but the seasonings themselves are fine.

As someone currently working with a nutritionist on a better longterm diet: Instead of leaving the carbs out, it's healthier to switch from simple carbs to complex ones. Whole grain doughs are good, potatoes are pretty much the healthiest starchy sides you can go for. I was also taught that the most important guideline is this: half of your plate should be veggies, a quarter should be protein, a quarter should be starch/carbs. Also I was told that I need to eat 2-3 meals each day. I used to try for 1 and that's actually bad because the body goes into starvation mode. Some nutritionists also recommend two fruit or veggie snacks inbetween the three meals, but I can't handle that much.

I've been hitting up those meal replacement shakes recently. Not every meal, but every few days having one when i havent eaten enough during the day really hits the spot Double edit sorry-- also try smoothies every once in a while, you can make them fruity with fruit juice or creamy with milk (i like oat milk) You can get all sorts of fruit in there, you can mask almost any veggie with enough blueberries, and the fact that you can control the texture can be great if you're like me and sometimes cant eat solids. Frozen fruit is more economical imo, but you can always buy fresh fruit on sale and freeze it yourself. Good luck eating dude, i know the struggle

I was told functionally to do keto too. He said high veggies, high proteins, minimize carbs where I can, get as close to the minimum I need as possible. But idk, it’s been a few months and I haven’t lost any weight. I will dip down, but then go back to my starting weight. Even when for the majority of the time I was actually under eating, hoping to pull a calorie deficit since he gave me a goal to get down to 175 from 190. Idk I didn’t even get that initial weight drop, and the stuff around me online and in perosn about my weight makes me feel like some sort of failure. They’re thinking of throwing me onto metformin for some injectables to assist with my weight loss, which I guess would help me get to the body I felt the best gender euphoria in, but…idk I’m a way it feels like I was morally bad by not being able to do it by myself. That I was lazy, a glutton, a failure etc. when I actually tried my best. It’s frustrating how much of an emotional roller coaster you get thrown onto just trying to get back down to a healthier weight (doc said i would be overweight still, but my liver levels should stop skewing and I would be healthy at that weight! I’d feel better I think like that weight.)

But gluten free is trash and I hate it soo much. I miss good pizza/ good pastries/ and even just a piece of normal (not fucking udi's or canyonhouse) bread (excuse my language). I know she's mentioned that there are a lot more options now, and I'm glad she has that. And I don't think it should be marketed as some trendy diet.

@@poke-talia268 I’ve been trialling a gluten free diet thinking I could have some non-coeliac gluten sensitivity causing some of my symptoms (so far things seem promising; I’m eventually going to slowly add gluten products back to see if I’ve got a more specific issue with certain foods like wheat too rather than an issue with gluten). I’ve been surprised by how many options there are for things. I’m pretty sure the pastas and stuff aren’t healthy alternatives unless you’ve got a serious gluten issue, but the fact I can sometimes have normal tasting pasta is surprising to me and great. It still sucks for those with more serious sensitivities though because even a lot of the stuff marketed as gluten free has to warn you it may have been contaminated with gluten still. In regards to your first TikTok - protein does actually fill you up more than carbs. Dietitians and nutritionists generally recommend having protein rich foods for people struggling with overeating, like nuts and such, as it is filling and low calorie and for those struggling with obesity a main change to make is lowering calorie intake. Carbs are energy. They are the primary fuel our bodies use to do everything. So yes they are more important but not more filling- that’s why it’s so easy to eat an entire basket of breadsticks at Olive Garden 😂 Love the overall video tho.

I didn’t lose much weight if any and I only debloated myself because I wasn’t eating anything and to top it off, my mental health was in shambles. I was even more obsessed with my weight and figure and it got worse all the time, if I had too many carbs one day or “over ate” or accidentally ate something against the diet I’d almost have a panic attack…it was horrible but fortunately (thanks to my bf) I’m much healthier now, I eat a very colourful diet and I don’t restrict myself anymore but I know I should start exercising again (for my health not my weight) but tbh I’m really scared and the thought of working out makes me nervous because of how bad I was a few years ago. Out of curiosity what about ADHD makes it difficult to eat? I’m guessing it has to do with sensory issues and forgetting to eat because of distractions but I’d like to know for sure of you don’t mind sharing.
@dopex892 жыл бұрын
@@fionatastic0.070 for me it's putting off eating until you're starving. Not feeling motivated to cook etc. Forgetting to eat if you are focused on something else.
@nervousham2 жыл бұрын
@@fionatastic0.070 I have ADHD as well and I also struggle with eating. For me, there are several contributing factors to this. For one, it's very difficult for people with ADHD to plan. Cooking for yourself takes a lot of preparation and planning, (shopping, meal planning, prepping, using tupperware that matches!! lol, finding/using recipes, etc.) It can be incredibly draining for me to accomplish all of these things while working a full time job. Secondly, and on that same note, if I am busy or at work, it is sometimes impossible to calm my brain/body down enough to sit and eat a meal. I feel sick if I try to eat while I'm at work. I often have to carry around a snack with me so that I don't feel faint. Thirdly, people with ADHD often have sensory issues, like you say, which can affect how strongly you may react to different textures of foods. There are so many foods that I love the taste of, but cannot get past the texture of. I can't even eat certain pizzas because the sauce has little pieces of tomato skin in it, lol. I pick the green spices out of my Nissin Ramen noodle packs, one by one. Eating is a CEREMONY for me, and im sure others with ADHD could agree. And lastly, having ADHD can mean hyper-fixating on different foods. Lately when I get hungry, the first and only thing I think about is Panda Express' fried rice. I had it the other day for the first time in a while, and so my fixation shifted from canned soup and buttered bread, to the fried rice from Panda. I have a couple "safe foods" that i can eat no matter what, like Lipton Noodle Soup. 10/10 since I was 5 years old. And not only do we fixate on foods, but we fixate on shows, activities, games, etc. The object of our fixation can turn into the only thing we care about for a while, which can even mean we don't care about eating. Nor do we think about it. And of course there's the obvious, just plain getting distracted and forgetting to eat. That happens..... A lot. Anyway, I know this was a giant comment but it felt nice to put into words, and I hope you found it informative. Maybe someone else could have explained it better, but here we are.

None of those problems are good reasons to eat keto, especially not diabetes. Excess saturated fat kills the insulin producing beta cells in your pancreas. It also increases risk of diabetes or exacerbates the issues. She can eat sugar, it should just be from fruits and whole grains. The only time keto helps diabetes is when it’s extremely short term, then it starts to have deleterious effects, and if a doctor recommends keto for diabetes, I wouldn’t trust them. Doctors don’t have formal nutritional training. A registered dietician would most likely never recommend this. For crohns, there’s no specified diet that’s recommended. There’s no evidence that carbs should be avoided. Keto has nothing to do with gut problems. It’s possible they have decimated their micro biome and thus can’t process oligosaccharides or sugar alcohols very well but it only takes a couple of weeks to repopulate. The only real reason for your mom to avoid sugar is if she takes medication which can be common for diabetics that causes hyper uptake of potassium, so it’d just be avoiding some fruits and potatoes.

I was on keto for some longish time and lost lots of weight. But it also absolutely ruined my health and mood. At some point I would get stomach pains so strong, that I'd almost pass out from pain. I then came back to "normal" diet, gained all the weight back (and more), but I'd never go back. Not only to keto, but any other diet. I'm recovering from being obsessed with dieting, because that was making me sad and constantly thinking about food as well as hate my body. Now I focus on accepting my body whatever shape or weight it is and eating intuitively. I've never been as happy as I am now, after giving up on trying to hard and putting my energy into actually enjoying food and cooking. Took me years though.

This is probably my 4th rewatch of this video since it came out, but here's my perspective as someone who grew up with a mom obsessed with diet culture-- cheese was sacred and constant because it was the only food ingredient that always tasted good and always felt safe. I was barred from bread, I was barred from snacks, I wasn't eating meat, I wasn't eating any textures except crunch or mush, and I was undiagnosed autistic. Cheese always was pleasant and I always knew how it would taste, and since the diet said cheese was everything that was good for you, I dumped it over everything I could. I think that must be a common experience, honestly.

Idk what he's got against everything bagel seasoning tbh, it's just seasoning lol. Some people absolutely thrive on these diets if used short term. (I'm not talking about the people who only eat cheese). I used keto/fasting to overcome a binge eating disorder and shrink my appetite. I did that for a bit and now that my appetite is smaller, I went back to eating normally but now I just require less food in general and don't binge eat anymore :) it's great!!

Both my dad and my brother were/are on Keto diets, mainly to lose weight. My dad was very strict with it, and lost a lot of weight. But, he was unhappy and eventually caused damage to his livers, forcing him on more diets before he eventually quit them. My brother has taken a more cautious approach to limiting his carbs, while still enjoying things like bread and pasta in smaller amounts. It was worked quite well for him, and he is still on a keto diet and doing very well. I think the main problem is people diving in head first into crazy extreme diets that are really damaging thinking that they can just lose weight fast and keep it off. For example, if you want to make a burrito using a tortilla, don’t use two bags of cheese, just use a low carb tortilla! Or, maybe eat one less tortilla than you normally would? No need to go through all that trouble.

As someone with an eating disorder (and let’s be honest, most of these people are somewhat disordered) I have the same thing with granulated garlic. I’ll put it on everything, even things that don’t need or warrant it and it’s a source of comfort since it makes my trashy low cal food taste a bit more bearable and familiar. A big part of EDs is having rigid rules and rituals around food, like always using a specific spice. Again, I might be reading wayyy to much into this, but these are my two cents okay bye
