What happens after your internship? Do you usually get a job near where you did your internship, or anywhere? And how did you choose which specific field you wanted to be in: clinical, food management, or community? What were some experiences that lead to your choice? You should do a video on this, I'm planning on going to become a dietitian one day and I love your videos, they're very encouraging!

+Lizzy Butter Hi Lizzy! Some people do get a job through connections they made during their internship, but a lot of people will just apply to the open jobs in their area. As far as picking the specific field - most entry level RD positions are clinical positions. Some people will get non-clinical jobs fresh out of internship, but that is definitely not the norm. Most non-entry level jobs require a few years of experience as a clinical RD before they will consider you for the position. That being said..I am in a clinical position now, but don't plan to stay here very long because I'm just not that interested in it. I am basically getting some experience under my belt so that I have a lot more options when it comes the time to apply for a new job. Hope this helps!

Love the dietitian related videos! I'm applying this year so I'm basically done with all my DICAS and D&D stuff... But I watched this video anyway :P another good video would be about interview questions or how to prepare for an internship interview. Thanks for the tips! Keep up with these videos❤️
@BeccaBristow9 жыл бұрын
Yay for being done with all of it!! You are finally in the home stretch 😊 for my interviews I had some that were super casual, and some that were more intense. The causal ones they just looked over my application/resume and asked me about my experience. The more intense ones asked a lot of clinical questions including NCP and calculating stuff out. Just be ready for both! And also I would suggest looking up basic interview questions online (like your strengths and weaknesses, situational questions, etc) and practicing those as well!
@katiehorrell35899 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Becca! This helps a lot. I've done this a little... I guess I just don't know exactly how much to practice for an interview. And what to look over for NCP or calculating questions. I feel like as much as look over my stuff I'll blank when the interview comes! ahhh! Luckily, I'm applying to a lot of community emphasized programs. *prays for no tube feeding questions*

I just watched so many of your videos and you are such a motivator! I am in school now for nutrition and sometimes I just want to quit. Classes can be extremely stressful, next semester I might have to take 6 core classes and I am having anxiety. I would love to hear tips on how you got through school and your experience!
@BeccaBristow8 жыл бұрын
+aaliyah rosario Oh girl I feel you. Nutrition majors do NOT get enough credit...it can be really tough!! I give some tips on surviving undergrad in my "How to Become an RD" video that you may find helpful! But overall I would say my #1 tip to getting through the tough classes is to study in groups!! I studied for pretty much every exam junior and senior year with the same group of girls and it literally made so much of a difference. Being able to talk through all of the complex science material with each other and teach it back was invaluable to me! (and my grades lol) Good luck and let me know if you ever have any more questions! xo

Would you consider doing another video with what to wear during the internship and what stores (online or otherwise) you recommend to comply with dress code? I keep debating what I'll need for clinical vs other rotations and I'll be starting rotations in the fall.

I recently made a video about "how I saved for my internship" and also tips for DICAS. I can't believe how few videos are on this topic! Yours was the first one I came across, which I believe is how I discovered your channel. I hope you don't mind, but I linked to your videos about the internship process in my description below my videos. Much love, -Katie

Hey Becca! I was so happy when you posted... Thank you SO much for this video, and for being you :) You literally combined both of my favorite things, nutrition and beauty, in a single go-to channel! I was wondering whether you could do a video on what one must do during their UNDERGRADUATE career (besides coursework) to apply for a dietetic internship? You mentioned something about doing research? Can you explain more.... Also, do you recommend volunteering at soup kitchens or food pantries?
@BeccaBristow9 жыл бұрын
I'm so happy to hear you are enjoying my videos!! Getting experience in undergrad is SO important when it comes time to apply for internships. Hands down, the most valuable experience is clinical (think hospital or long term care). Whether you can volunteer part time during school or get a summer internship, that is the best thing to do. However it is not the only option. I wasn't super interested in clinical and their weren't many opportunities available to me, so I chose to volunteer in one of the research labs on campus - I helped PhD students conduct their studies, all of which had to do with nutrition in children. It was good experience, and it looked good on my application..I was asked about it in all of my internship interviews. You can also get food service experience, but it needs to be back-of-house (for example working in the kitchen, not serving) to count. If you think you will go into community nutrition someday and work in a setting like a food pantry, then that would be valuable experience! Some internships have a community nutrition focus, so they would appreciate seeing that on your resume.

hi! been loving your videos so far. they're super informative and help me make better health decisions. I'm wondering if you could talk about protein. I'm getting confused by what's out there lately about being raw vegan and how people don't need protein to be lean and build muscle. I'm interested in leaning out by losing fat and gaining strength. I was wondering if you could shed some light on this

I still have a couple years before I'll be able to apply for an internship but I love having as much information as early as possible for planning things. Thanks for making such great videos :) Would you be willing to do a video explaining possible dress codes for all areas of the internship? I'm a SAHM and almost all of my classes these last few years have been online so I haven't had to worry about not dressing super casual. What types of shoes/clothes/accessories would you recommend?
@BeccaBristow9 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you are finding my videos healthful! As far as dress code, most places are always business casual. Throughout my internship and now in my new job, I usually wear business pants, some kind of top or sweater, and flats. And sometimes I'll throw on a cute necklace too :) Hope this helps!
@susanmarie789 жыл бұрын
That does help :) When I get close to finishing my classes I'll make sure to start dressing the part more so I can get comfortable wearing those kinds of clothes and really get into a professional mentality. Doing this whole process online has been super convenient for me, but I've had no motivation to dress nicer since I just do homework and take care of my son all day.Becca Kay

@BeccaBristow8 жыл бұрын
There were a lot of research labs on my campus, and they were always looking for assistants every semester. I reached out to a few of the lab directors who did nutrition-related research via email to see if they needed any, and that was how I got hired!

+Aileen May well because the economy deals with allot of processed food and moving even more towards processed with the rise of vegan products and vegan meat..so its a rising market..for me its better because i learn the chemistry and science of the food i am eating and others are eatingg
