Me every time I cook a meal since starting to watch abbeys kitchen: “this beef & veggie soup is stacked with protein and full of nutrients, but obviously that’s not enough on its own so I have sourdough bread here for some carbs and a little butter for some fat and because I like the flavour. After this I’m going to have some apple and almond butter for some fibre and fats to keep me nice and full until dinner time”

I honestly find it really helpful because I tend to undereat if I don't consciously think of what else I can add to boost my meals. I'm too ADD to remember to snack, and I tend toward orthorexic thinking, so reminding myself that a particular meal could really use some extra complex carbs or protein is a good tool to stay on track with weight maintenance.

I am a 90s kid too but I would love to see you do the 80s ! This was the time that turned our mothers into the food phobic "looks is everything" people that raised us. My mom confessed to actually spacing out my bottle feeds a bit further apart to "save me" from being a fat baby! We know the fashion was a disaster but it passed, while the messages our mothers got during that time are with us still!
@arwenitaofdoom9041 Жыл бұрын
My mom was dieting a lot during this time (mid 2000s) and I found a book on Glycemic Index at home. I was only maybe 14-15 during this time. I was a couple of kgs overweight and was very unhappy about myself because of bullying so I started this diet and starting losing weight. I got compliments from everyone and kind of got addicted to cutting more and more foods out until I could only I eat lean protein and green vegetables. I got very very sick and it took me years to have a healthy relationship with food. Now I'm vegan since 8 years back (100 % because of the animals!) and i can finally say that my relationship with food is much better. Im wish that I had never picked up that book and and never got influenced by diet culture. But with all the insecurities and looking up to certain celebrities that seemed to be living the "perfect life" it was so hard. I hope my future kids never will feel that pressure and I will never do any restrictive dieting infront of them.

The blue soup really cracked me up because when I was a kid in the 80s, my mom would make chicken cordon bleu on occasion and she always used blue yarn to tie up the chicken bundles that she happened to have early on and then just kept in the kitchen and used it each time. I was a fully fledged adult before I realized that chicken cordon bleu was not so named because it was supposed to have blue stripes across it where the blue yarn had been. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️

OK I don't know if you'll read this Abbey but, I just want to say, ED warning!! You have helped me a LOT in healing my relationship with food. I had been overweight my entire life. I stared my "weight loss journey" when I was only 13. I tried all types of diets but to no avail because those just caused me to binge even more. At one point, I just ate one omelette and boiled vegetables and nothing else for the whole day, and exercised rigorously. Because of my eating habits, I lost my period, which messed me up even more. But I'm healing, and your videos have helped me a lot. I have lost a lot of weight in a healthy way and yay I got my period back. I try to eat intuitively. There are some instances where the fear of eating certain food comes back but I'll get there one day. So, thank you ❤

Abby, you need to do the fifties, when women had tiny waists and not many were overweight. Thank you!!!
@Teddy-jf5xg Жыл бұрын
What’s wrong with women having tiny waists? You jealous? Oh, let me guess…. they were starving themselves. Nope, not the case at all. I’ve kept off the lost weight for 6 years and not once have I felt starved. I do IF, 16:8. You know, some people exercise and work off the carbs that they eat. If you look outside of the US, most people exercise and that’s why maybe they have smaller waists.
@Teddy-jf5xg Жыл бұрын
People in the 50’s were smarter, the women were way more attractive and feminine than they are now.
@Diana-qp2rw Жыл бұрын
@@Teddy-jf5xg She might not have meant it in a negative way. Not many overweight people sounds like a good thing. I assume there were some weird diet ideas back then, but from what I hear from my grandma or other people who were young back then, women usually didn’t strive for an extremely low body fat percentage but just a good figure. But also on the tiny waists, the 50s fashion really helped with that! Much more flattering for a woman’s figure than today’s fashion.
