What you have explained here makes so much sense. It is always impossible to follow fad diets because ingredients are different in each region, and individual needs are not the same for everyone. Cooking at home will always be more nutritious than consuming processed or fast street foods.

I love your explanation about different type of diets and why we should not eat Mediterranean if we live in other regions (Poland in my case). I love Mediterranean food and I feel so good on this diet, but when it is cold outside I feel my body needs something different, more warming. I try to adjust my diet to the food that actually „grows”. Thank you for your content, more often please! 😊

yes when we live in colder climate Mediterranean can be great and relevant in summer but in winter we need different foods more nourishing and filling especially for thermoregulation (10% of energy expenditure). Thanks for sharing ☺️

Yes, recently a scandal concerning a seller of electrolytes who claimed to have no added sugar revealed that behind "natural flavors" companies could put maltodextrin as well as other additives without mentioning it. So avoiding all these processed items is the best way to be healthy. Have a nice day 😊

@lindawarner7046 I don't know what OVO is, Linda, but you might want to know that the whole thing about good and bad cholesterol is being revisited and some thinking now is that this isn't correct. Recommend videos on KZbin by Dr Ken Berry for thoughts on this, for example. But, long story short, butter isn't bad for your heart. I wonder why a French dietician would eat butter when recommending, and following, what is thought to be a very healthy diet - and she's very slim as well?!

I know people who live in Crete. It can get very cold in the winter and It often has more snow than we do in the UK. People tend to eat lamb, chicken and rabbit in winter, with pasta (orzo), potato or pulses. They eat a lot of greens and herbs which mostly grow freely at the foot of the mountains. I’ve even know them to get snails at the local taverna, so not so different to France after all.

Hello, indeed what we see online as a description is certainly very interpreted and transformed because there is also a winter in Crete. Crete is a big island, some people live in the mountains and others on the coast where the climate is milder. I have two excellent Mediterranean cookbooks from ATK, but I don’t follow the ingredient list exactly. For example, Imported Greek Feta has too much salt, and I don’t like Greek yogurt texture. I either omit some ingredients or replace them. And I don’t follow any specific diet. What I do follow is the posters from the local super market I most frequent, which tells me what produces are in season and what are produced in my own state. Though American farming industry receives a lot of criticism domestically and aboard, we do have delicious fruits and veggies, organic or not. And I got introduced to seasonal produces from our neighbor state as well. They are simply wonderful. I start cutting processed food and condiments little by little thru several years. What I find most interesting is I can taste real food again. When I see you add just salt and olive oil to salad, it makes my mouth watering. I can’t agree you more based on my own experience. Cooking whole food is really one of the best you can do for your body.

As I have improved my diet I can see how in summer months I tend to lean more in the greek style of eating and colder months favouring a more french style of eating, and although we get access to non seasonal foods in the supermarkets I try to stick to more seasonal produce. And you’re right cook from scratch with fresh ingredients is key. Another culture with many thriving older people is Japan and again they eat a lot of fish. ❤

Hello, Yes, I'm also a bit like you, more Mediterranean in summer and more northern France in winter. Yes, in Japan, it's also on an island that researchers have spotted lots of centenarians, Okinawa if I remember correctly. And they do eat a lot of fish, but also a lot of fresh produce. Very interesting, but it's more complicated these days: as an Eastern European in Southern California, it's tough to deliniate between what's traditional for me (meats, soups, potatoes, beets, sourkrout in winter and a lot of seasonal fruit and berries during summer months) vs what's local in Cali:)

Totally agree. Its been an experiment of mine to try to create a "traditional" diet living in America, since we do not have one that is healthy. For us, I believe we should focus on the fruits and vegetables grown in our own states/neighboring states, and then move to what is grown nationally if our state cannot grow certain things. Meat, eggs, milk, fish, and dairy products are generally best consumed in small amounts in their most expensive form (grass fed and finished, pasture raised, local farmers when possible), since our animal agriculture is very bad here. For fats, I would say butter and california olive oil. Most of thr country only produces butter or peanut/soybean oil.

This channel is probably the best and most honest channel on nutrition out there. Finally someone who doesn't call a French of Mediterranean diet a "plant basted diet" just because it has plants in it doesn't make it one. About every tribe/culture ethnic group in the world has some type of plant in their diet because humans are curious versatile and great survivors. Yes I agree when you look at the so called blue zones, the commonality of all of them is they eat real food and create their meals from scratch. Also they tend to move allot, example walking.

Hello indeed the Mediterranean diet is definitely not a plant based diet. It's so far from the truth. They eat a lot of meat (mainly lamb) and dairy. And it's the reason why it's a healthy diet because a healthy diet contains a majority of animal proteins which are completely bioavailable for us unlike plant proteins which are absorbed only at 50% in general.
