Shocked at this video. 😳I just started following him two weeks ago when I got a membership to Costco. I’m trying to eat better. I grew up on junk food. My kids have been the same. I found out before Christmas I have really high cholesterol and am pre-diabetic. I’m terrified. I don’t want my kids to have the same issues when they’re my age. Any who. There was so much to see and options at Costco, I felt overwhelmed. I found Bobby and thought he was a God send. Glad I didn’t go too far with him. I told my kids, I’m not going to stop them from eating “junk” at parties, or when we’re out at a restaurant. It’s impossible to be that healthy and clean. I’m not going to stop them from indulging either. They’re kids!They snack a lot, and I was just trying to control what I could here at home…

I didn’t know that artificial flavors were in super low concentrations in products. Where did we get the scientific evidence for that? I respect your content. In my mind, to each their own. I also hate when people use the word "toxins" or "chemicals" when they mention foods that are considered not healthy. I agree with the criticism that a lot of the content he puts out can seem as fearmongering, but I think your criticism surrounding his child is almost entirely unfounded. You are assuming that he is teaching his child to NEVER have these bad foods, or to be judgmental over others' food choices; however, he has done several fast food reviews where he goes over a large swath of the menu items going over some of the healthier choices. It is a rather large leap to assume that you think he would not let his child have pizza at a party given the history of his content, and despite what you might say this huge leap in logic is very judgmental. Also, the idea that there are no such thing as bad foods is extremely unscientific. I would like you to find me any study that would claim (for example) trans fats are in any way beneficial. This is not to say you should feel guilty or avoid them at all costs, but it is to say that it cannot in anyway be considered a "good" food.
@AndresAyesta
@AndresAyesta 5 ай бұрын
You are right I may be making assumptions but I am also entitled to an opinion based on the amount of content I have been from influencers like him and also working with people that are now adults like you who share stories about their parents creating fear around foods and putting them on diets since they are 10 years of age and now dealing with body image issues and borderline eating disorders. So my assumptions are also based on my experience coaching hundreds of clients to date which would imagine you have not? The comment you made about bad foods… innacurate. Trans Fat is not a Food. Trans Fat is specific type of molecule found in foods that are heavily processed and though it is “bad” don’t mischaracterize my content you should “have” bad foods but rather eliminate the labels understanding you need to choose a more wholesome approach but not demonize “bad foods”. Appreciate the comment but heavily disagree here
@notclaytonn
@notclaytonn 5 ай бұрын
@@AndresAyesta Assumptions are not opinions. While it is fair to use your experience as a general rule of thumb, when you are making a video about a particular person it's important to do more research rather than rely on those assumptions. Outside of your experience with clients, you have no basis for any of your assumptions with this content creator and his parenting. If you did your due diligence with research prior to the video it would be apparent that the idea he tells his audience (or daughter) to never eat certain foods is silly. He made an entire fast food series eating even some of the most unhealthy items and showing people that there are healthier options even in that realm. While technically correct, the trans fat point is ultimately semantics; whether or not it is a "food" is almost completely irrelevant to the point at hand. The argument is that trans fat (particularly artificially made) is bad which you agree is true. Furthermore, calling a particular ingredient bad is not demonizing nor is it implying you should never eat it. I have grown up understanding that heavily processed and sugary foods are bad for your health, but it is understood that they can still be enjoyed in moderation. The concepts of, "X food is bad," and, "Try to enjoy X food in moderation," are not mutually exclusive. These labels are important.
@AndresAyesta
@AndresAyesta 5 ай бұрын
@@notclaytonn ok the daughter thing. Sure! I’ll Rephrase it here: in my opinion… People like Bobby Parish and their content may be creating more harm than good by sharing information and misinformation that some parents may share with their children ultimately affecting their own relationship with food. If you do the due diligence on him as well and not cherry pick the information that does seem “helpful” you will find a long list of other pieces of content that is straight up BS. Contradicting information and even a lack of disclosures in some of his content that could get him in trouble with the FTC. I won’t get into the details here. Lastly I think we can agree on your second point. 💪
@notclaytonn
@notclaytonn 5 ай бұрын
@@AndresAyesta The fault for what other parents choose to do with the information that Bobby presents does not belong to Bobby. To criticize him for what others choose to do with the *correct* information that he presents is a silly position to take. Also, I am not cherry picking because I never made the argument that his content is always factual. I would agree that his content does have contradictions as well as claims that aren't necessarily backed up by comprehensive studies. This, however, was not the issue I had with your video. I took issue with your assumptions on Bobby's parenting (as well as for his positions on consuming "bad foods" in general) and your claim that he is demonizing "bad foods" and that such labels can be harmful. Thank you for being respectful in this discussion, though.

My issues with “science” is that the standards are different for each country. I don’t know Bobby but I have a hard time believing that every single food on the market in America is healthy. Why does the US allow ingredients that Europe research said is bad? Please explain why?
@AndresAyesta
@AndresAyesta 6 ай бұрын
This is nuanced. Europe has different standards than the U.S. just because something is banned in a specific country doesn’t automatically make it bad. Europe used something hazard based standards while the U.S. used a risk based standard for the regulations. They have different labeling laws and many other things to consider. And most of their standards are not based on strong scientific evidence. It’s more of a “this is banned, just to be safe though we don’t really know if it’s bad for you” type of approach. I’m also not saying that every food in America is healthy but we need to remove the moral standards around food. Food is just food. You will always be better off consuming Whole Foods of course which I do, but context is important and when we have this extremist dichotomy of good and bad, you create a very distorted food relationship that really hurts your ability to be actually healthy

Man this is a rough one. Nutritionist or Dieticians ain’t no doctors either, so those titles trying to get cred is whatever. Parrish ain’t pushing or fear mongering anybody, he’s just sharing his knowledge/opinions that you can just skip through if you don’t give a shit, but in today’s society every one of these bloggers/influencers are just trying to cast shade on others and catch clout.

There is a difference between a nutritionist and dietitian (spelled with a T) brother. You are right we ain’t no doctors. Doctors as a matter of fact are less credible on nutrition because their only formal nutrition training is 1 class in med school. I spent 8 years in school to learn the science of nutrition and understand interpretation of scientific research, and many other areas within the nutrition field so yes I am taking “cred” lil bro. Any advice on parenting with a vegan mindset? It's taken me a while to try to fix my relationship with food. My father was always on some kind of diet. Atkins, etc. growing up. I eat a balanced diet, including sweets, soda, junk food etc which is all possible while being vegan. But I want my son to understand where his food comes from. He's 1 and loves birds and other animals. Won't it be weird when he sees other people consuming meat?

I am not an expert on veganism for children. I will tell you my professional opinion: I think it may be limiting for a child to consume a vegan diet. I think I am all about being plant forward but veganism when not done properly particularly considering a child may have food aversions and not like certain things there is the risk of deficiencies that may affect his/her growth among many other issues that may be worse. I am sure there are specialists in this kind of diet for children but I couldn’t tell you who right now

In all reality - most Americans by the statistics are not eating anything in moderation. I agree that it’s wise to make some levity to this process it is also important to actually consider taking certain foods out of their diets. There is science to the oils. Once you understand how vegetable oil is processed - I’m not sure why you’d want an oil in your body they have to deodorize because the rancid smell is unfavorable. Clean ingredients products - no artificial flavors - colors is absolutely not good. Especially, in gatorades - Powerade etc. red dye 3 is bad! Not a dietician but I’ve read the studies and it’s not good for kids. There is some credence to some of what he is saying. He is definitely a contradictory voice as some things become “subjective” on his app and his opinion choosing the lesser evil. Which is good to do when we have limited choices. But, shaming or giving his opinion to criticize isn’t healthy for sure. His daughter is young. She can’t advocate for herself yet. But I suspect in the future she will eventually, want to try McDonalds! Or have lucky charms in college! 😮 No kids in this world can live 100% clean. Not realistic. Adults in America being over 70% overweight or obese do not have a healthy relationship with food and are ultimately harming themselves. The food industry exists to make people addicted to food. Sad and upsetting. I believe wholly in moderation. Practiced it my whole life. Stopped drinking pop this year because it made me feel sick and bloated after I drank it. Diet Pepsi not good for you. lol! Anyway, with our kids and “you can’t have dessert unless you clean you plate” idea we do not have that. But we do say, be careful how much you take. They make their own plates now. Old enough to control their portion sizes. We want them to eat according to what they feel is appropriate. If they say their full when they have A LOT of food left we say - you can’t have dessert. We say we understand being full. But if you are truly full you logistically can’t eat any more. Thus, no dessert. If there is a small bit left we work with them because we aren’t driving home the issue you have to earn dessert but that you cannot stop eating the nutritional part of your meal so you can have space for the empty calorie part. Free Willy nilly isn’t a good message for kids either. Helping them understand eating the meal is the primary support for helping them have proper nutrition. The dessert while good should not be the primary driver of what they do or do not eat of the meal.

Then we get to the end of the video where you literally say "have donuts and poison in moderation bro! I swear it's not bad for you!" Way to throw out your credibility. However avoiding sugar, artificial colors, etc is not bad for any kid or adult....so he may just be making his kids life more complicated and he contradicts a bit on the sugar topic for sure. like you said he's an influencer so with that knowledge people should take the facts and discard the rest. He is not necessarily talking about how to eat healthy and or lose weight… I think it is more about eating clean his videos. I’ve just noticed how many negative videos there are about him especially from professionals. It almost comes across as jealousy imo. You know, even people with a degree get it wrong sometimes and the science is forever changing. He’s not holding a weapon to anyone’s head, just take what advice you feel suits you. His daughter has a good relationship with food and from a very young age was preparing recipes. Look at all the crap that kids eat out of boxes these days and give credit to a guy who is teaching his child about real food.
@AndresAyesta

I understand your point and respect it. Unfortunately the relationship with food of a child is not measured by how they approach food now but by how they approach it in adulthood. You have probably not witnessed that as I would imagine you are not a professional in the field who deals with clients and patients on the daily like I have, but the distorted views on food create a lot of damage that worsens things. There are better ways to teach people how to eat less crap and more Whole Foods but unfortunately that’s not content that sells and gets views 🤣 lastly if his content was consistent and contradictory (like sharing seed oils are bad but in other videos he’s using and recommending grape seed oils) I would see how at least he’s got a strong opinion and I would respect that. It’s not jealously, there are some of us who are genuinely trying to convey the right message (without selling 60$ supplements)
