Have you heard of OPTAVIA?
It’s a diet program that many have claimed was their secret to losing hundreds of pounds.
With the OPTAVIA 5 and 1 plan, you eat 6 meals a day, with 5 packaged snacks ordered from the company (with a steep price tag) and one meal of meat and veggies.
The OPTAVIA 5 and 1 plan is one of the most restrictive diets I've come across…
So, does it work?
In this video, I’m breaking down the OPTAVIA 5 and 1 plan with a full review, revealing the TRUTH about this diet. I cover…
✅ The specific nutrition information of a single day of eating on this diet
✅ How much you have to pay to follow this diet
✅ What I REALLY think of OPTAVIA’s “health coaches” (should you trust them?)
Enjoy the video!

I did this program, I got down to 123 from 1:50. I am 5'1 120 123. However Christmas rolled around and I fell off the wagon, badly. Famished for food that tasted good. That was my problem I did not care for the food. And I could not afford their TV dinners. So I'm back up to 132. But I learned a lot from the optavia diet. I'm learning now that I can stay within 1200 Cal. And eat between keto and a low fat diet. So basically high-protein low-carb and low fat. I've only been doing this now for 4 days.. I have saved a lot of money. And I'm starting to feel better. I'm using a few ounces. But I'm going to be strong this time and patient. So between Christmas and July. I feel my body needed to recover. My poop was super mushy and I had a lot of poop issues. Sorry for the graphics but it's true.

Sorry about your experience. Sounds like you got some good things from it but realized it was not sustainable

I did this program. I had my goal weight...met my goal weight...reached out to my 'coach' but couldn't get her to help me. She said she didn't know what to do to move me to the next phase of maintenance. Her upline refused to help me. They both 'encouraged' me to become a coach myself since I had experienced such great success. I didn't want to do that, I wanted to maintain the weight as it was sold to me that maintenance was where this program really thrived. Nope. Epic fail. I hired a nutritionist for a fraction of the cost of this program and she was available whenever I needed her. So, if I was to try to lose weight again and needed help, I'd hire a nutritionist.

This is an excellent and balanced review of Optavia. I lost nearly 70 pounds back in 2014 on the program, back when they had actual Medifast weight loss centers where I met with a "counselor" every week. I kept the most of the weight off for about 5-6 years. After about 3 years, I had regained about 10-15 pounds but still a good percentage of weight loss sustained. Then over the next 4 years and after I stopped buying the "fuelings" I gradually put back on about another 35-40 pounds for only a sustained loss of about 15 pounds. The diet really does not teach you or help you to learn to eat healthy, nutritional foods. I stopped eating the fuelings because (1) cost-they kept getting more expensive, (2) I did not want to spend all my life eating heavily processed food or "food" that is basically powder and water, (3) the fuelings are heavily dependent on soy, and I found that I am soy sensitive.

6' 4" 216 lbs. I did Medifast in 2009. In 3 months I went from 240 lbs to 202 lbs at my lowest. I have been able to keep my weight down to around 206 for many years, but now that I am 63 years old and just got married (meals are very regular now don't you know) my weight is creeping back up quickly and I am unhappy about it. Seriously considering getting back on "Optavia" for a month or two to get back down and remind myself of the coloric intake levels I need to be at to maintain my weight.

Glad this worked well in the past. I don’t think you are addressing the main issue tho which is understanding why your weight is creeping back up in the first place and though OPTAVIA could help you drop the extra weight it’s just a very restrictive calorie diet. May as well learn how to properly fuel your body in this current stage. Congrats on your marriage 🙏

Doesn't sound like people will be getting much in the way of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. Like you said, still processed foods, and leaving the people on the plan with one meal that they can get whole foods.

3:33 pm i have lost 42 lbs with Optavia went thru the suggested transition phase and been doing the maintenance phase for 6 months with no Optavia products, just healthy choices and foods and moderate excercise. There are 3 phases, weight loss, transition and maintenance.

Kept my over 100lb weight loss off for 2 years now 💚🙏🏼🫶🏼 Like anything, if you go back to your unhealthy eating habits you had before, you will absolutely gain weight back. Optavia provides the knowledge and teachings how to live a balanced diet/lifestyle. At the end of the day, your body reflects what you put in it, period. ❤

This is amazing to hear. Like I said in the video if it works for you and you have been able to sustain it by all means this is a great program, but unfortunately, a very large number of people cannot sustain habits and tend to gain the weight back up, I am glad this was not your case.

I completely agree with your evaluation! I too tried this plan. Lost 30 pounds & felt great with very little effort. The downside was the cost to keep going without a plan on how to replace those easy packets with a healthy easy daily food menu. Right now I’m just focusing on not eating when I’m not hungry and moving 30 minutes a day. That’s a challenge enough.

Can you tell me what suggestions you would make for me as I am wanting to lose weight with a routine that I can do normally - regular groceries along with fueling supplements that I don't have to pay a "weight loss program" for?

I tried it. Its actually effective youll be in slight ketosis thats why you need to deink lots of water to prevent harsh effects on kidneys! In my opinion its not bad but dont over do it. And remember exercise is good. Sadly alot of endocrine disruptors in USA. easy to get fat. But to add on it. Generally bad foods are bad and we all know it if we eat bad then we gain weight again. It will all depend on your habits. Create your good habits then youll be in better side.

Thanks for sharing this. The ketosis is created simply because you are so restricted in calories. Love you said it’s important to build better habits 🙏💪

I lost 20 pounds on OPTAVIA and slowly gained all the weight back within a year. They don’t teach you how to eat after you are off the program. They basically drop you like a bad habit as soon as you stop buying their products!!😂

Yeap! There are a lot of comments in here and are in line with the stats I see. About 90% of people (like 90% of the comments here) gain the weight back, and about 10% (the few positive comments) are successful in keeping it off

I would just say if you are calling it a diet not sure you really understand what the program is designed to do. If you choose to do it correctly. Unfortunately you are focusing on the meals which is why diets fail bud.... The program teaches you proper habits. Now 10 mins in and you keep saying "DIET" it's really not understand but what you want to look at. Just like for you, if they choose to do your system or meal plans no? You won't keep the weight off either if they decide to go back to old habits, correct? Did you talk about the educational part or just food bud? I would say you are making it a diet by how you explained it. This is unfortunately not a great understand and creating false info.
@AndresAyesta

Haha in any type of diet or weight loss program particularly commercial you will find a very large number of people who did it. When you take all of those people let’s say 100 and you follow up with them after 5 years you will most likely find that more than 80% did not maintain their goals because they couldn’t adhere to a system. You my friend are probably part of the 80% that used OPTAVIA as a starting point for a lifestyle change but the big majority does not fall under that unfortunately. You are right that it’s important to build habits but this company is preaching to continue on their fuelings even after you are done. Also they suggest keeping your calories at less than 1600 which is arbitrary and unsustainable for many. OPTAVIA without their meals packets is not OPTAVIA so even though they have an educational component, people are becoming successful because they are restricting their calories through the limits imposed by those fuelings (which by the way is the one of the definitions of diet - restriction of calories). This not false info… you are just part of the minority that was able to keep the results long term. Ok BUD?

A program that tells you to stay under a very strict calorie amount IS a diet. They also have a habit program. But it is definitely a diet.
