Promoting a healthy, "detox" lifestyle and having a glass of wine regularly, considering alcohol is neurotoxic, even if it is such a small amount, seems to be a little ridiculous. If your body is strong enough to cope with a glass of wine, it is strong enough to handle a cookie, I think. And to leave away the celery juice.

I always pick this bone with people. It’s so comical to watch them struggle with the logic of alcohol - neurotoxic and generally a poison in the most literal sense (acute overconsumption will kill you) vs gluten / sugar etc. I love forcing people to explain why they choose alcohol when they’re so self righteous about “health”.

As someone who has celiac disease, thank you for the gluten free comment! I’d never recommend it to anyone if they don’t struggle with an allergy or intolerance. It can make you intolerant over time if you eat that lifestyle long enough!!! I know someone who did this to herself 🤦🏻‍♀️
@rachelmaddowswife8713
@rachelmaddowswife8713 10 ай бұрын
@@maryssa8593 That's not true. I (who also have celiac) don't know why your particular friend developed the disease, many of us develop it randomly as adults, but studies show that actually the more gluten you eat the more likely you are to develop it. They think this is why the prevalence is higher in some countries even when you control for genetics. That said, I'd also recommend that people who don't need things like gluten free baked goods avoid them, because they're more expensive, often don't taste as good, and often have more calories than the original wheat version.

OMG! I met Julianne Hough at a CVS on La Brea (West Hollywood), in July 2014. It was close to midnight, and I was there with 3 friends purchasing snack food and drinks after dining down the road at Nobu (we had spent $60 each and were still hungry!). She was there with her assistant getting Cheetos/chips/cookies/sugary stuff as they OBVIOUSLY had the munchies... How do I know? They were giggling uncontrollably and about to get to the register when this big guy basically shoved them out of his way and took their place with the cashier... my friends and I started joking around with them as we had witnessed this rude guy and we continued chatting for quite a while. They were obviously red-eyed stoned but really lovely and chatty. Why am I bothering to type this? Because this "wellness" bs is a far cry from the Julianne I met that day and I don't buy her wellness shtick for a second! The girl was truthful when she said she loves flour, sugar, etc... she opened a package of chips ahoy and stuffed her face before she even reached her SUV in the parking lot!!! PS: Back then, I was the ONLY one who recognized her (Footloose).

I have endometriosis. You need a balanced diet and to be careful with overall glycemic load of food - which makes that butternut squash soup without protein a no no. Endometriosis has little to do with specific foods and more the overall balance of each meal. Alcohol without some protein or carb for absorption is a recipe for cramps.
@ellegraph4740

As someone else who has endometriosis, it is advised that we stay away from coffee and problematic, triggering foods. Because of this, for me, coffee is a treat too. I am with Julianne, that having a cookie might actually cause a flare that inhibits her functioning that day. Clearly Abby was way uninformed about all of these things and chose a hyper-judge mental route. This is a topic she knows nothing about and it shows.

@@JustBeingAwesome not trying to be combative, but other than the documented benefits of a gluten-free diet and increasing Omega 3 fatty acid consumption, overall body fat is what can make endo symptoms more severe, as fat cells produce estrogen, so the more fat cells you have, the more estrogen is released into your body and this makes the pain worse. Excess estrogen is also the reason for the early onset of menstruation in pre-pubescent girls, increased menstrual flow/cramps/pain/headaches, infertility, and higher incidence of endo and pcos.

Hi Abbey, I follow your content and think it’s truly educational. I do feel however that this video was more mean spirited than others...it’s the reason why I watch less and less reaction videos on KZbin since they poke fun at people and are sometimes straight up mean. Her diet is definitely restrictive and makes no sense, but I’m sure she actually believes she’s doing good... it’s perfectly fine to say that she is not correct, like in other videos you made, but this one felt particularly...mean. I felt the need to say this, hope it’s not upsetting, but it just didn’t sit right with me.

I think Abbey, like anyone else in her position, has the right to sometimes pick at people who are supposed to be authorities on diet and excercise that are spreading harmful misinformation. Whether or not Julianne believes these claims, she is responsible for the misinformation that people recieve from her, and should be called out imo. Aside from that, Abbey is a human and sometimes people have sassy moods so it could just be that lol

As a coffee drinker, I didn't get triggered by what she said about coffee (I respect anyone who doesn't need coffee, because I wish I had that relationship with it). I just assumed that Julianne might struggle with some form of generalized anxiety or depression, that is triggered and worsened by the sudden high caffeine content in coffee. Which is the case for two of my friends, one to this day does not drink coffee because it unhealthy ramps up her anxiety and the other one only drinks in moderation. I dont know but in this video you kinda came across as a bit of a bully towards Julianne, and as someone who follows a whole food diet because of IBS (I'm allergic to Fructans like onions/garlic so that gets rid of the majority of processed foods). I kinda felt a bit of judgement from you. My relationship with food is great, regardless of if I follow a few "diet culture" regimes because I have to.

So the one thing I want to flag when it comes to Ayervedic traditions for food is that you're right that we definitely don't have evidence to support the claims. But we also don't have evidence to refute them for the most part, because we don't put a ton of research money into eastern medicine traditions (largely due to the health/wellness industry being steeped in white supremacy). While I'm convinced Julianne is probably appropriating a bit of the culture and isn't trying to bring awareness to cultural significance, I don't think it's fair to discount the tradition and cultural way of eating for people who do practice Ayerveda. As a future RD, evidence-based practice is obviously super important to me. But simultaneously, we also need to be aware that many our research to get evidence is focused on what we assume to be "valid" based on western ideals. For example, we don't have evidence-based health benefits for Christians taking communion, or for Jews eating Challah. But in those religions and cultures it's considered important for spiritual health, which could help reduce stress that could affect physical health.

I get where she's coming from with health from the inside out. You never know what people are going through - - I used to laugh at people who were holding to "arbitrary" diet standards, and then my doctor suggested I try eliminating gluten, dairy, and sugar from my diet to aid with my severe Bipolar 1 disorder (in combination with medication and therapy of course). It's made a huge difference and while some days I do crave a cookie, I know that I will overall be best served by sticking to my boundaries, even though I'm not strictly intolerant or allergic and other people might roll their eyes. At the end of the day, what matters is that I'm happy and healthy, not what other people think, and I'll hold the same space for her. Except for the celery juice 🤣🤢

Hi Abbey, I just wanted to leave a comment on what you say about dosha's being "personality traits." That is AN element of it, but its not the only one. I wish people would stop getting their information on Ayurveda from celebrities like Julianne and Gwynneth Paltrow! I am currently in training to be a practitioner and it is in essence is a holistic, practical approach to food and the one which has helped me to heal my relationship with food. The way I have been taught is to not pay attention to "what food to eat for your dosha" unless experiencing discomfort. Instead we are supposed to eat seasonally and according to our own intuition. We are also taught to include food of ALL tastes into one meal, protein, a bitter vegetable, a sweet vegetable and grains, cooked in ghee or olive oil (hunger crushing combo). So kindly, please refrain from comparing it to western science or research. Its not the same, its mind/body and spiritually focused 🙏🏼 Also warming foods are not specifically recommended for Vata dosha, its seasonal and dependent on the time of year. Sorry for the ramble but I get a little bit miffed sometimes. As a Punjabi, the practices of our indigenous cultures often get poo pooed by western medicine and science only for them to then appropriate it later.

Not everyone is a dessert person. I’d far rather have a glass or three of wine than a dessert food. Idk this one was a little condescending. Diet culture is toxic, but let people have their preferences.

@@therabbithat I genuinely like drinking celery juice. I don’t find it disgusting and I like the way it makes me feel.

Just last night I had one of my favorite “liquid desserts”-a chocolate milkshake 😋 I also like to drink a small glass of homemade sweet tea every night to get that sugar fix-that really does help prevent me from eating an entire grocery-store-sized bag of skittles by myself in 1-2 days, as I was wont to do before. (“Moderation, what’s that?!” -me 10 years ago)

does she get permission from the people she’s reacting to in these videos? because it does seem like she’s getting a little rude with the way she’s responding to other people’s life styles and choices. i’m in no way trying to hate on abbey btw.

I totally agree, not to mention some of the stuff Abbey says is very nit picky and comes across as being a bit aggressive. if I was an influencer I would probably not put my diet out there for the fear of being picked apart by these kinds of videos

Agreed, this was so judgmental… Shr always tears people apart who choose to eat healthy foods, and then got mad when she said she enjoys unhealthy things in moderation. Like, isn’t that what you want from people as RD? For people to at least eat mostly healthy and have the capacity to enjoy “bad” foods without it consuming your life or ruining your health? The whole world would be better off. It’s the way I prefer to eat so that I feel my best, and I know my body will thank me as I age.

She makes videos with an opinion... and speaks truthfully but with some character about what she sees. If she didn’t highlight the glaring shortcomings of these diets, she would be neglecting her personal and professional duty, and possibly endorsing unhealthy eating to those who are susceptible to such messages.

Maybe because I’ve met Julianne at a charity event and she was lovely, but I think we could use some context here in that she is a dancer and a performer. This could inform why she “isn’t supposed to drink coffee” and “why she has to eat gluten free”. I have friends who were dancers and when we had big performances if they drank coffee they felt like they would pass out after the performance because their heart rate went up too much, or they had to be careful what they ate (sometimes had to be gluten free) before because their performance anxiety would put them on the toilet if they had pizza for lunch for example.

You can be a lovely person but also be spreading misinformation at the same time. And if she’s dancing and working out a lot than this becomes even more concerning because her calorie intake is not sufficient for high activity levels.

7:25 The coffee sometimes isn’t the problem but it’s the caffeine. Some patients with anxiety (like myself) are instructed by our healthcare providers to not drink caffeine since it’ll make anxiety worse.
