Interesting topic 😯 I like this "big picture" way of teaching before jumping directly into joseki. I also like how you contrasted the two, it makes each of them clearer and easier to remember!

Yes, please make a video about BE 4th file rook!

Also, there are several 4th file josekis where you end up moving onto the third file, so you need to know both anyway 😀

Another important difference is that in 3rd file Rook, the Bishop blocks the Rook's influence on the 3rd file. In my opinion, this difference makes the 2 openings play very differently. 4th file Rook feels more like a counter-attacking opening; at some point you push the Pawn on the 4th file unleashing the Bishop and the Rook at the same time. 3rd file Rook feels more like a maneuvering opening, where finding ways to exchange and enhance the position of the pieces is more important.

That's right, and I have never thought that way! Very nice explanation!

I was wondering how to use third file rook against central rook? Can you give a game example to see how it works?

Sorry for the late reply. Good question and to be honest I know few about 3rd-file rook vs. central rook. I guess you have some choices to castle. Mino, Peerless Golds, Yagura etc. Examples would be like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKHPq6OkisyLp6c

I would love to see something more practical. Gameplay analysis from a game that you or someone else played.
