Fair. She seems to be in a ballroom studio after all. My issue is when brazilians can't just let it be. It's 2 separate dances and I'm fine with that. Why can't Brazilians be fine with it? Because of excessive pride in their country.

@@ArmisHart I largely agree with you. International ballroom samba is such an established part of Latin dance competitions that any offence taken is just ignorance. The ballroom version hasn't taken anything away from Brazilians. Just look at the skill of the dancers in any Latin DanceSport competition. The international ballroom samba doesn't claim to be the definitive version, only _inspired by_ the Brazilian dance.

In addition to using songs like Maracatu/Forró that they call Samba, the advertisements for this European samba are all with Brazilian women dressed as if they were going to Carnival. We have a Brazilian funk, but doesn't have James Brown on the cover, because has nothing to do with American funk music . They have every right to have this musical dance style but it has nothing to do with Brazil, stereotyping our music and dance. Ballaroom Samba is not considered part of Brazilian culture or ZAMBA, the root of samba. They say there is influence from Brazilian maxixe, but mainly from Chá-Chá, Salsa, Rumba. Regarding marketing, I suggest watching Samba ballroom "Dance with the stars",TV show on KZbin and they have various references to Brazil, as well as posters of these classes in the United States and Europe that use Brazilian culture to sell thease classes .

To all my fellow Brazilians shouting that "there's no such thing as international samba" think about our Brazilian funk, Brazilian rock and so on. Our Brazilian funk shares the same name with USA's funk but they're nothing alike. Ideas, like samba music and dance, cannot be contained. They will get copied, adapted, and changed by others. In the same way the samba no pé danced by the escolas de samba's passistas is also very far from how people dance samba de roda and chulas in Bahia, for example. And although her Brazilian samba is not up to our standards, you could get the best passistas and they wouldn't be up to the international ballroom standards. Because they're different things that happen to share the same name. This dancer is obviously incredibly technical and proficient in her styles.

@@levadamusic Maybe you have a point. I also don't think it'd be fair the say it's Brazilian in its current form. It might have been inspired by our samba but it has since moved sooooo far away that it's unrecognisable. I don't know enough about the international ballroom movement to know whether they indeed market their samba as being Brazilian or not. When I wrote my original comment I did look for some other videos on "ballroom samba" and lots of them don't even use Brazilian music, let alone actual samba music. So I'm not sure. In this video she makes a clear distinction between Brazilian and International samba which I'm very ok with.

Ballroom samba goes over the top with the latin aspect. I think the frustration some brazillians have with this style is that samba comes from african roots, so it's traditionally more expansive and focused on the drums then the hips itself. Noneless the lady is an incredible dancer!

The "Latin" aspect you refer to is all a white person's interpretation and copying of actual Latin dance. Actual samba, Brazilian is Latin. And Latin dances tend to be Afro Latino dances including samba.

Until halfway through the video she is trying to show Brazilian samba, but needs to improve. At least she managed to stay in the same place, unlike the dance in the other half of the video where she dances backwards, which they call "International Samba". As this music is not the true rhythm of samba, it becomes more difficult to dance Brazilian samba.

Nunca vi um estrangeiro saber dançar samba do mesmo modo já vi uma dançarina brasileira falando que jamais conseguiu aprender danças do ventre. Danças populares o mais importante é sentir a música e tentar fazer os movimentos de forma natural e fluida .

MAS CONTUDO o international samba é um samba adaptado às danças de salão ou seja faz parte de uma das 5 danças latinas ( Samba, chá chá chá, Rumba, Paso Doble e Jive) que é dançada por bailarinos nas competições de dança (Latin American DanceSport) e foi inspirado no samba e ritmos brasileiros para puder ser usada em competição, como bailarino federado que fui durante 16 anos posso dizer que SIM temos muita inspiração do samba brasileiro na nossa dança e coreografia, desde a música ao movimento de anca e também á maneira como nos expressamos na dança.
