No, there is difference. Emblems usually fall in gestures. When emblems are used purely for purpose of gestures then they cannot be called as signs. When they are used by deaf people then they will be called signs. So it's based on purpose. George Yule has given emblems as part of Gestures not signs. However, I gave references at the end and I told that I used other books as well in which emblems are dealt in terms of signs as well. However even if emblems are purely part of gestures, when they are used by deaf people, they cannot use spoken language with it. I hope you understand.
