The Northern part of Cyprus is illegally occupied by Turkey, they invaded the country in 1974. If your talking to a Turkish person they are not Turkish Cypriot, Turkey move people into the island. This occupation is not recognised by anyone apart from Turkey as they have broken 2 of the UN agreements

If you want to know the difference between the north and south of Cyprus go back to 1962 & do some research.
@hasms84953 жыл бұрын
This information is completely biased and inaccurate. Turkey intervened in Cyprus in 1974 in response to a systematic and organised plan by Greece and certain Greek Cypriots to completely eradicate Turkish Cypriots from the island and annex Cyprus to Greece. This was called 'Enosis' and was backed by the facist Greek government at the time. Please look at events from 1962-63 onwards. Turkey is a guarantor power who has the right to intervene as per the agreement when the government was formed when the British reliquinished power.. please look at both sides before pinning something like this.. in addition, turks have been on the island for centuries and it is home to thousands of Turkish Cypriots.
@panostheodoulou11663 жыл бұрын
@@hasms8495 Turkey did not have the right to occupy half of Cyprus since 1974. Independence meant no Enosis AND no Partition, which Turkey has violated to this day, contrary to UN Resolutions, which Turkey has violated. Turkey used the Turkish Cypriot community, 18% in Cyprus, as an excuse. Turkey's aim and what Turkey has committed in Cyprus is INVASION, OCCUPATION, ETHNIC CLEANSING (of the Greek Cypriots), COLONISATION - there are more Turkish colonists from Turkey than there are genuine Turkish Cypriots in the occupied north. By the way, Greeks have inhabited Cyprus for 3000 years, when Turkey did not even exist and represent over 80% of the Cypriot population. Also, the real reason regarding what happened in Cyprus in 1974, is due to the fact that Cyprus is a victim of its geographical location, being near the middle east was an invaluable strategic point at the height of the cold war. To think like you're thinking is naive. A CIA-backed military government (Junta) in Greece was used as an excuse for Turkey to invade Cyprus, and given the green light to do so by Henry Kissinger. Pre-meditated events. Turkey had plans to invade Cyprus since the 1960s and was actively discouraging the Turkish Cypriot community from living and working in peace with the Greek Cypriots. The internal problems of Cyprus were caused by outside influences.

Remember that most of the population of "North Cyprus" are forced migrants from Turkey or their descendants. They are not real Cypriots. If you want to meet real Turkish speaking Cypriots visit PYLA in the south. There in 1974 the Turkish speaking locals chose to remain with their Greek speaking friends rather than move north. That's real Cyprus for you.
